Pursuit
The next morning, Shen Anxia woke up, and Yang Zheng woke up too. The two of them squeezed together to wash up. Yang Zheng looked at the two of them in the mirror and suddenly remembered the scene a few months ago when Shen Anxia and Liu Shanshan, those two childish girls, squeezed together to wash up. He couldn't help but laugh.
I never imagined that I would be able to do something like this with Shen Anxia one day. My heart was suddenly filled with emotion, and I felt that I was still acting childish at my age.
However, he clearly felt in his heart that he wanted to do such childish things with her.
It's as if they've been together since their youth.
They went to a breakfast shop together, and Yang Zheng took Shen Anxia to work before returning to the training location for training.
As soon as Shen Anxia entered the dance studio, Fang Qiqi pulled her aside and whispered, "Was that your boyfriend who brought you here?"
Shen Anxia always kept her private life private, and since she wouldn't be staying in Xinfeng for long, she didn't want her colleagues to pay too much attention to her, so she lied: "No, it was a friend's ride."
"Your friend is really something, a Mercedes-Benz!" Fang Qiqi exclaimed in surprise at Shen Anxia's connections.
Shen Anxia laughed and said, "It's not like it's a Maserati. Aren't these cars everywhere?"
"Come on, I don't see Mercedes everywhere. You're so out of touch with reality!" Fang Qiqi nudged Shen Anxia's arm with her own.
“That makes sense,” Shen Anxia thought Fang Qiqi was right. “After all, it’s not mine, and I really can’t afford it with my meager salary.”
Fang Qiqi laughed and said, "I can't afford it either."
Shen Anxia pushed her forward: "So hurry up and participate in more commercial performances, and work hard to earn enough money to buy our own car!"
The dance troupe had rehearsed four themed dances for Friday's performance, so they were very busy these past two days and got off work a little late. Yang Zheng was also very busy with training tasks. When Shen Anxia got off work, Yang Zheng's training was still not over. She thought for a moment and then strolled over to the training center that Yang Zheng had mentioned.
In the bustling city center, with shops lining the streets and cars thronging the roads, Shen Anxia walked along, pondering what to eat for dinner. The ten-minute distance passed quickly; after another turn, she was less than two hundred meters from the training venue for Yang Zheng when suddenly, a piercing horn blared behind her, and a taxi veered off course, hurtling straight toward Shen Anxia.
The moment she turned her head, her pupils contracted, and her adrenaline surged. Relying on instinct and agility, she did a somersault and a turn to the side, narrowly avoiding the oncoming car. The taxi seemed to have had its handbrake forcibly pulled, its tires screeching against the ground, countless sparks flying everywhere, and a strong smell of rubber filled the air. The driver swerved the steering wheel, and the car grazed past Chen Anxia before crashing into the roadside green belt.
Shen Anxia lost her balance and fell into the grass. Amidst the screams of passersby, she finally felt a sense of fear. Her hair stood on end, her back was soaked with sweat, and cold sweat dripped down her cheeks.
The taxi was stuck in the green belt, its front wheels spinning wildly. The driver seemed terrified, and he got out of the car shakily to check on the situation. He apologized to Shen Anxia while helping her to her feet, saying, "Miss, let me take you to the hospital!"
The driver was bald, slightly overweight, wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. His entire left arm was covered in flashy tattoos, and his face was somewhat fleshy, making him look unapproachable. He spoke with a strong regional accent.
Shen Anxia stood up and saw that there was a small scrape on her palm, about the size of a fingernail. It wasn't serious, but she was quite frightened. She looked at the driver's hand that was supporting her arm and gently pushed it away.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," the driver said, reaching out to pull Chen Anxia's arm. "The brakes failed, I'll take you to the hospital!"
Shen Anxia was unharmed and didn't want to deal with this greasy man in front of her. She figured that calling the police wouldn't do anything, since she hadn't been physically harmed. She frowned, calmed herself down, and dodged the driver's outstretched hand, refusing, "It's okay, you should still check the car! Just in case something else happens."
"I'll take you to the hospital! You're injured, after all. You probably won't be able to go to work for a few days." The driver reached out to pull Chen Anxia again, apologizing as he did so.
"It's really nothing, but you should check the car quickly! The engine's still running, and it could easily injure someone," Shen Anxia reminded the driver, who seemed completely unaware of the danger his car was in.
Passersby gathered around in twos and threes. The driver, sweating profusely at the sight of the people around him, quickly got back into the car and turned off the engine. Shen Anxia took advantage of this moment to leave the place.
Her legs were still a little weak, her arms were shaking violently, her heart was pounding, she was covered in cold sweat, and the feeling of lingering fear had not yet passed. At this moment, all she wanted was to see Yang Zheng as soon as possible, so she tried to walk quickly toward the venue.
She hadn't walked a hundred meters when her phone rang, and Shen Anxia answered it.
"Where?" Yang Zheng asked.
Shen Anxia tried to keep her tone normal and calmed herself down before saying, "I'm picking up my boyfriend from get off work. I'm not far from the entrance of your venue."
Yang Zheng's eyes lit up, and he strode out of the venue.
The training hall was some distance from the entrance. Yang Zheng went out and saw Shen Anxia standing there.
"I promised to pick you up after get off work, but I didn't expect you to pick me up instead," Yang Zheng said, a smile spreading across his face.
"Let's make my boyfriend happy," Shen Anxia asked, "What should we eat tonight?"
"There's a newly opened concept restaurant, shall we go on a date?"
Shen Anxia asked in surprise, "Another new restaurant has opened? Where did you get this news from?"
"I asked someone during my lunch break today." Yang Zheng reached out and took Chen Anxia's hand.
Shen Anxia immediately took Yang Zheng's arm, leaning her upper body weight on him, and asked, "Where did you park the car?"
"There it is." Yang Zheng bent his arm to support Shen Anxia's weight, and pointed with his other hand to the parking lot, which was about ten meters away.
Once in the car, Shen Anxia finally relaxed completely. Recalling the moment when she was closest to death felt like a dream, almost unreal.
She opened her palm, and the area where she had just been scratched was already swollen, with a slight yellowish discharge.
Yang Zheng then got into the car and looked at Shen Anxia, only to find that she was wiping the injury on her palm with a wet wipe.
"What's going on?" Yang Zheng pulled her hand and frowned.
"A car just went out of control, and I tripped and fell while trying to avoid it."
Yang Zheng was taken aback and quickly pulled Shen Anxia over to look her up and down: "Are you injured anywhere else?"
"It's nothing, just a scratch from a flower branch," Shen Anxia comforted Yang Zheng. "I was a little scared just now, but I'm not scared anymore now that I see you."
Yang Zheng got out of the car, took out a first-aid kit from the trunk, applied some medicine powder to Shen Anxia, put on a band-aid, and asked, "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
Seeing Yang Zheng's expression turn serious, Shen Anxia couldn't help but tease him, "I wanted you to hold me just now, but there were so many people on the street, I was too embarrassed."
Remembering how weak she looked when she had been clinging to him, Yang Zheng ignored her question and asked, "Where's the car? Did you call the police?"
Shen Anxia pulled Yang Zheng's hand and teased him, "I'm fine. Calling the police would only waste my time seeing my boyfriend. After all, I haven't seen him all day."
Yang Zheng couldn't help but smile, his expression softening as he asked Shen Anxia, "Do you still want to hug me now?"
Shen Anxia smiled and hugged Yang Zheng. She asked, "Do we still want to try that new restaurant? I'm starving."
"Are you really alright? After all, you fell." Yang Zheng was still not quite convinced.
“I’ve gotten way more injuries than this when I’m practicing dance. With my skill level, I didn’t even feel any pain from that slide just now. It’s not a big deal.” Shen Anxia released Yang Zheng and emphasized again, “I’m so hungry.”
Yang Zheng ruffled Shen Anxia's hair: "Let's go eat."
The two had dinner at the restaurant Yang Zheng mentioned, then went to the cinema to watch a movie. By the time they got back to their apartment, it was already 10:30.
Since starting work, Shen Anxia no longer has to focus on various exams, and rarely stays up past midnight to sleep. Most of the time, she lies down at 11 pm and falls asleep soon after.
Yang Zheng knew her sleeping habits and tried to follow the same schedule as her.
So after washing up, we didn't chat much and went to sleep.
Until Sunday, the two acted like an ordinary couple, going to work, going home, and going on dates. Shen Anxia suddenly felt that her relationship with Yang Zheng had always been natural, with a sense of stability that made it seem like they could see the end of their days at a glance.
Yang Zheng's business trip to Xinfeng gave her a glimpse into her future life back in Yi'an. The two of them naturally got along like this, eventually meeting each other's parents, getting engaged, and getting married.
Her relationship with Yang Zheng was truly natural.
Good.
On Friday, Shen Anxia had a performance and Yang Zheng had a banquet. They were both busy with their own things, and during their breaks, they would exchange messages intermittently.
After tonight, Yang Zheng's training will end, and he will return to Yi'an. All told, there are only two days left to spend together on Saturday and Sunday. She wants to spend as much time as possible with him, so she can't wait for the performance to end.
This event was a commercial performance. The dance troupe prepared four challenging dances. There was a group interview before the performance, which ended at 10:30 pm. After the performance, Shen Anxia was covered in sticky sweat and just wanted to go back to her apartment to take a shower.
She sent Yang Zheng a message, but he wasn't finished yet, so Shen Anxia wanted to take a taxi home.
He hailed a taxi at random, and out of safety awareness, Shen Anxia took a picture of the license plate.
Less than two minutes after getting into the car, Shen Anxia heard the car door lock with a "snap".
She found it strange and asked the driver, "Sir, why did you lock the car doors?"
The driver spoke with a slight lisp, sounding like someone from the south. He said through gritted teeth, "Last time, a passenger almost jumped off the bus."
Shen Anxia felt inexplicably uneasy because she had encountered a lot of people from other places these past two days.
She tried pressing the window button, but the window was locked. She glanced at the driver discreetly, knowing that her position made her easily visible.
Shen Anxia pretended to listen to music, put on her headphones, took out her phone and sent the license plate number she had just photographed to Yang Zheng, then silenced her phone and dialed Yang Zheng's number.
Meanwhile, at the party venue, Yang Zheng saw a message from Shen Anxia saying that she had taken a taxi home. Feeling restless, he couldn't stay at the banquet any longer. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention to him, he quietly left through the side door, got his car, and went back to Shen Anxia's apartment complex.
