As night falls, the lotus pond in Shangyang Village is shrouded in hazy moonlight. Jiang Wei walked slowly along the path with small steps. The fragrance of lotus floats in the wind, mixed with the scent of soil, giving people a feeling of peace.
Her heartbeat quickened, her fingers unconsciously clenched the hem of her skirt, the corners of her lips curled up slightly, and her eyes flashed with anticipation.
In the thatched hut beside the lotus pond, the light of a dim kerosene lamp flickered. Jiang Wei approached the thatched hut and looked around, but did not see Zhou Yanjing.
She frowned slightly, slowed down her pace, and asked tentatively, "Yan Jing? Is that you?"
The only responses she got were the whisper of the night wind and the ripples on the water. Jiang Wei felt a little uneasy, but she quickly suppressed the emotion and comforted herself: "Maybe he is waiting for me."
She walked into the thatched hut and sat on the bamboo bed. After sitting for a while, she suddenly felt a little dizzy. Jiang Wei lay on the bamboo bed, her breathing gradually became long and deep, her eyelids felt heavy as if filled with lead, and her consciousness gradually became blurred.
Her hands hung limply on the edge of the bed, her fingertips touching the rough bamboo mat, causing a slight sting.
There was a slight sound of footsteps outside the door, rustling on the soft soil. Jiang Wei's eyelids trembled slightly. She wanted to open her eyes, but found that her body seemed to be restrained by an invisible force and she could not move. Her heartbeat suddenly quickened, her throat became dry, and she wanted to shout but no sound came out.
The figure of a lame man appeared at the door, standing with his back to the light, his face unclear. His shadow was stretched out and cast diagonally on the ground, like a dormant beast. He held a short, thick wooden stick in his hand, and although his steps were staggering, he felt an inexplicable sense of oppression. He approached the bamboo bed, looked down at Jiang Wei, and a sneer appeared on the corner of his mouth.
"Weiwei, you're really here." His voice was hoarse, like the harsh sound of sandpaper rubbing against each other. He lifted Jiang Wei's chin with a wooden stick and looked at the delicate face carefully, his eyes revealing greed and viciousness.
Although Jiang Wei's consciousness was blurry, he could still feel the disgusting smell. A huge fear surged in her heart. She wanted to struggle, but found that her limbs were too weak and she didn't even have the strength to raise her hands.
The lame man climbed onto the bed and kissed her on the lips, and this kiss became more and more out of control.
The man took off his pants, lifted up Jiang Wei's skirt and pressed her down.
…
The next day was Sunday. Chen Liwu didn't go to work and got up late. Zhou Yanjing kept breakfast warm in the pot while he was in the army.
She was still eating breakfast when Zhang Damei ran in in a panic, without knocking on the door. She panted and lay on the table and said, "Why are you still eating breakfast? Your man is about to be snatched away by Jiang Wei. Come on, come with me."
Zhang Damei pulled her and was about to run, but Shen Liwu grabbed her, "Sister-in-law, tell me clearly, what was taken away? Let's not run, I'm pregnant, just walk faster, tell me as you walk."
"Pregnant?" Zhang Damei's eyes widened and she almost screamed. She quickly lowered her voice, her face showing both anxiety and joy, "Oh, why didn't you tell me about this child earlier! No wonder Deputy Captain Zhou has been looking at you like a treasure lately!"
As she muttered, she slowed down her pace, but still hurriedly pulled Shen Liwu out.
"I just heard that Jiang Wei went to the lotus pond in Shangyang Village last night and spent the whole night with the lame old man Yang from Shangyang Village. That old man Yang came to Chief Jiang this morning to propose marriage, but Jiang Wei grabbed Deputy Commander Zhou and refused to let him go, saying that it was he who wrote to Jiang Wei to get the lotus pond and that he should be responsible for it.
When I heard this, I rushed back to the family compound to find you. ”
When they arrived at the training ground, there were many people gathered there. Shen Liwu pushed through the crowd and saw Jiang Wei with messy hair holding Zhou Yanjing tightly.
