Captain Gao's face turned ashen, veins bulged on his forehead, his fingers clenched into fists, and his knuckles made crackling sounds.
His voice was low and filled with uncontrollable anger, "Mom! You are playing with Tiedan's life!"
Aunt Gao shrank her neck, her eyes flickered, and she muttered, "Who knew it would be like this... Who could have imagined..."
Shen Liwu looked at Captain Gao and urged: "Captain Gao, now is not the time to talk about this. Tiedan's condition cannot be delayed any longer. He must be sent to the hospital immediately."
Captain Gao took a deep breath. Tiedan's body was limp, lying helplessly in his arms like a dead leaf.
"Wait!" Aunt Gao rushed forward and grabbed the corner of Captain Gao's clothes with both hands, "We can't go to the hospital! Hospital fees are so expensive, we don't have the money!"
Captain Gao paused, turned around and stared into his dear eyes. Those wrinkled eyes were now filled with fear and stubbornness, but they could not conceal the selfishness and ignorance deep within.
His voice was as cold as a knife: "Mom, Tiedan is your grandson, he is my son. Do you really want him to get into trouble to be happy? If anything happens to him, you must return home tomorrow."
Aunt Gao was struck by lightning and froze to the ground.
"You, you want to drive me away? You are an unfilial son. Your father died early, and you were raised by him. Now that mom is old, you want to drive her back to her hometown. Your conscience has been eaten by dogs.
Oh, why is my life so miserable! White-eyed wolf..."
Captain Gao ignored her throwing a tantrum and got on the army vehicle with Tiedan in his arms.
There was a murmur among the crowd, some shook their heads and sighed, while others looked disdainful.
"Captain Gao is unlucky. It's unbearable to have such a mother."
"Who said it wasn't? Everyone in our family compound has suffered from Aunt Gao. Shen Liwu was targeted by her as soon as he joined the army."
"Bah, Aunt Gao will get her comeuppance sooner or later."
"Isn't retribution coming? Retribution is coming to her grandson."
…
Shen Liwu stood in the corner, the whispers lingering in his ears, and he felt mixed emotions in his heart.
Her eyes followed Captain Gao's receding back until the car disappeared from her sight.
It's really unlucky.
Zhou Yanjing walked up to her, gently put his arm around her shoulders, and whispered, "Don't think too much, we've tried our best."
Shen Liwu nodded, leaned on his shoulder, and said in a low voice, “There must be something hateful about pitiful people.”
"Come on, let's go home."
"good."
Just as they turned around, Chief Jiang called them, "Wait, Yan Jing's wife."
Shen Liwu and Zhou Yanjing stopped, turned around, and watched Chief Jiang approach slowly.
Zhou Yanjing shouted, "Chief!"
