Chapter 17 Abuse of Xu Dong (2/2)

Not only on the arms, but also on the back and legs, there are new and old injuries.

The blood clots under the skin turned dark purple, which was shocking to the eye. Shen Liwu’s fingers trembled slightly, and his eyes turned cold instantly.

"How come?" She lowered her voice so low that it was almost squeezed out from between her teeth.

Xu Dong lowered his head, pursed his lips into a thin line, with tears in his eyes, but he stubbornly refused to speak.

The crowd around also quieted down, and everyone's eyes were focused on Xu Dong's arm. Zhang Damei widened her eyes and her face turned pale, "Who... who did this?" She clenched Xu Dong's shoulders tightly, her voice filled with suppressed anger.

Aunt Gao's face turned pale and blue, and her lips moved, but no words came out. Her eyes flickered, as if she was avoiding something.

Shen Liwu took a deep breath, turned to look at Aunt Gao, and said in a voice as cold as ice, "Aunt Gao, can you explain it?"

Aunt Gao swallowed her saliva and forced a smile, "This child...maybe he fell by himself. Children always bump into things."

"Fall?" Shen Liwu sneered, "How could a fall cause so many scars on the entire arm? Or do you think we are all blind?"

Zhang Damei lost her temper and yelled in a loud voice: "You old abusive woman, you don't want to be a human being but a beast. You can be so cruel to a child. Why don't you just die!"

Aunt Gao felt guilty. She raised her hand and pointed at Zhang Damei's nose. Her voice was so sharp that it pierced her ears: "Stop talking nonsense here! I didn't do anything! He did it by accident. What does it have to do with me?"

Zhang Damei's eyes were as big as copper bells, and her fists were clenched so tightly that they made a clattering sound. "You still dare to quibble? Xu Dong is not a fool. How can he beat himself up like this? The more you talk, the more outrageous it gets!"

The people around also began to talk in low voices, some shook their heads and sighed, and some frowned in dissatisfaction. There was a tense atmosphere in the air, as if it would explode at any time.

Shen Liwu squatted down, gently held Xu Dong's other hand, and said in a gentle but firm voice, "Xu Dong, don't be afraid, tell your aunt, who hit you?"

Xu Dong's body trembled slightly, and he couldn't help but let his tears roll down. He bit his lip, glanced at Aunt Gao, and said in a voice so low that it was almost inaudible, "It's... it's Grandma Gao..."

"You little bastard, what nonsense are you talking about!" Aunt Gao stamped her feet anxiously, her face turned pale, and her eyes wandered around in panic.

Zhang Damei became even more furious when she heard this. She rushed to Aunt Gao and asked sternly, "How dare you, an old abusive woman, be so mean to the child? Do you think you have done everything perfectly and no one can stop you?"

Aunt Gao was forced to take two steps back, the muscles on her face twisted into a ball, her lips trembling, "I, I didn't! Stop slandering me! How can you believe what a little kid says?"

"Enough!" Commander Jiang's voice was like thunder, interrupting the escalating argument.

Commander Jiang's voice was like thunder, breaking the tense atmosphere.

He strode in front of Aunt Gao, his eyes sharp as a knife, "Aunt Gao, what's going on?"

Aunt Gao's face turned even paler, with beads of sweat oozing from her forehead. Her fingers were tightly clenched together, and her voice was trembling: "Commander, I really didn't do anything... This child might have fallen accidentally..."

"From a fall?" Commander Jiang frowned, and said in a deep and powerful voice, "Look for yourself, do these scars look like they were caused by a fall?"

The neighbors gathered around, some whispered, some shook their heads and sighed.

Zhang Damei pointed at Aunt Gao's nose and cursed: "You old abusive woman, why don't you admit it? Look at what you did to the child after you beat him!"

Shen Liwu stood up, gently put his arm around Xu Dong's shoulders, and looked at Aunt Gao with cold eyes, "Aunt Gao, if you tell the truth now, maybe there will be a solution. Otherwise, this matter will not be let go. Do you know what sentence you will be given for abusing the orphans of martyrs?"

Aunt Gao's lips trembled a few times and her eyes darted around, as if trying to find an excuse. Finally, her shoulders slumped, and her voice was so weak that it was almost inaudible: "I... I just taught him a lesson... He was disobedient..."
