Chapter 37: Jumping off a cliff (2/2)

The group followed the footprints and passed through a deserted field. The ground under their feet gradually became soft and muddy. As the night wind blew, Zhou Yanjing's heart grew heavier.

"Report, footprints found ahead!" another soldier shouted.

Zhou Yanjing rushed over and saw messy footprints on the mud, which were obviously signs of multiple people chasing him. His heart suddenly tightened and he quickened his pace, almost running.

"Hurry! Faster!" He urged the soldiers behind him, with unconcealable anxiety in his voice.

As they went deeper, the surrounding trees gradually became sparse, replaced by steep rocks and deep canyons. Zhou Yanjing's heart was beating like thunder, and the only sounds in his ears were his own breathing and footsteps.

Finally, they came to the edge of the cliff.

The night wind howled, making it impossible to open one's eyes. Zhou Yanjing stood still, staring at the dark abyss, his fists clenched tightly, his nails digging deeply into his palms.

"Deputy Colonel, here!" A soldier pointed to the edge of the cliff, where there were several loose stones, obvious signs of someone stepping on them.

"Deputy, we found a few people sneaking around and arrested them."

The soldiers brought the kidnappers over. Zhou Yanjing walked over and looked at them scrutinically.

"Who are you? Why are you here?"

"I, we are just passing by, comrade, we are really not bad people."

The leading kidnapper lied.

"Bad guys usually say they are good guys." Zhou Yanjing clenched his fist and made a fake move. The kidnapper subconsciously dodged, and his speed was much faster than that of an average person.

"Oh!"

Zhou Yanjing sneered, his eyes were as cold as ice, and his fist drew a sharp arc in the air and directly hit the kidnapper's chin. The man groaned, staggered a few steps, and fell heavily to the ground, with blood oozing from the corner of his mouth.

Zhou Yanjing didn't give him a chance to breathe. He stepped on his chest with such force that he could hardly breathe.

"Tell me! Where did you take Shen Liwu?" Zhou Yanjing's voice was low, and every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, with uncontrollable anger.

His eyes were as sharp as a sword and his feet were powerful. The kidnapper's face turned red instantly and his breathing became rapid, as if his chest would be crushed at any time.

"I... I don't know..." The kidnapper squeezed out a few words with difficulty, cold sweat on his forehead.

Zhou Yanjing's eyes became even colder, his fingers tightened slightly, and his knuckles made a "cracking" sound. He didn't waste any more words and kicked the man in the ribs. The crisp sound of fracture could be heard clearly in the night. The kidnapper screamed, curled up on the ground, and trembled in pain.

"Say it again, where is the person?" Zhou Yanjing's voice was so low that it was almost a whisper, but it made people feel creepy.

The soldiers nearby looked at each other in bewilderment. They had never seen Zhou Yanjing so out of control. The usually calm and steady deputy captain now looked like an enraged beast, emitting a dangerous aura.

"I... I'll tell you!" Seeing this, the other kidnapper was so frightened that his legs went limp and he quickly raised his hands in surrender. "She...she jumped! She jumped by herself! It has nothing to do with us!"

Zhou Yanjing's body suddenly stiffened and his pupils suddenly contracted. He turned and rushed to the edge of the cliff, his eyes fixed on the dark bottomless abyss. His heart seemed to be grasped tightly by someone and almost stopped beating.

"Brother Jing, don't be impulsive. My sister-in-law might be hanging under the water. Let's immediately arrange people to search and rescue her!" Ji Jingnan stepped forward to stop Zhou Yanjing. Although his voice was calm, he could not hide his worry.

Zhou Yanjing's chest heaved violently, his fists creaked, the veins on his forehead bulged, and he looked like a trapped beast.

He took a deep breath, forced himself to calm down, and said in a horribly hoarse voice: "Get down the cliff immediately, and find her no matter what!"

Zhou Yanjing turned and looked towards the kidnappers who were slumped on the ground. His eyes were as cold as ice blades, and he approached them step by step.
