"Dongdong, have you finished your homework today?" Shen Liwu asked softly, with tenderness in her eyes.
Xu Dong nodded, his big eyes twinkling, "It's done! I also helped uncle watch the fire, the chicken soup in the pot is delicious!"
"Aunt, are you hungry? Get up and have dinner. Uncle Zhou and I have already eaten, and we left some food for you."
Shen Liwu smiled and nodded, reaching out to touch Xu Dong’s head, “Dongdong is such a good boy, Auntie will get up and eat now.”
Xu Dong's eyes sparkled, as if he had received great praise.
Shen Liwu slowly stood up, the pain in her ankle made her frown, but she still endured it, changed her clothes, and moved to the living room step by step while holding the wall.
Xu Dong was very sensible. He put the food on the table.
Shen Liwu sat at the dining table, looking at the steaming chicken soup in front of her, the aroma filled the air, arousing her appetite. She gently scooped a spoonful, blew on it, and put it into her mouth. The soup was rich and the chicken was soft and melted in her mouth. The corners of her mouth rose unconsciously, and a hint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.
"Aunt, is it delicious?" Xu Dong lay on the table, looking at her eagerly, and seemed to be more nervous than her.
"Yeah, it's really delicious." Shen Liwu smiled and nodded, reaching out to pinch Xu Dong's little face, "Thank you, Dongdong, for helping uncle watch the fire. Do you want to drink some too?"
Xu Dong smiled, showing a row of small white teeth, "As long as Auntie likes it! I just drank and ate a lot of meat, I am full."
Shen Liwu lowered her head and continued to drink the soup. She felt that Xu Dong had become much more cheerful these days. She asked:
"Dongdong, have you been happy these days? Has anyone bullied you?"
Xu Dong shook his head, his eyes sparkling, "Happy! No one bullies me. My classmates used to bully me and laugh at me, but not now."
Aunt, ever since you came to help me with the parent-teacher meeting, my classmates have been worshipping me. They even play with me and say that I have an amazing aunt! ”
Shen Liwu heard this, a trace of relief flashed in her eyes, she put down the spoon and gently rubbed Xu Dong's head, "That's good, if someone bullies you in the future, you must tell your aunt, understand?"
Xu Dong nodded, with a happy smile on his face, "Yes! Auntie is the best!"
Shen Liwu finished the last mouthful of soup, sighed with satisfaction, and was about to get up to clean up the dishes, but was stopped by Xu Dong, “Aunt, you sit down and rest, I’ll clean up!”
He picked up the dishes and chopsticks swiftly and walked quickly to the kitchen. His back looked particularly sensible.
Shen Liwu looked at his figure, and a warm current surged in her heart. She stood up slowly, leaned against the wall to the window, opened it, and the evening breeze blew across her face, bringing a hint of coolness.
As the night deepened, I heard a few dogs barking in the distance.
Just then, there were footsteps outside the door, followed by the sound of a key turning in the lock. Zhou Yanjing pushed open the door, holding a plastic bag in his hand.
"Are you back?" Shen Liwu turned around with a smile on his face.
Zhou Yanjing nodded and put the bag on the table. "Well, I just came back from the army. On the way, I saw an old farmer carrying a load of peaches. I knew you liked them, so I bought some for you."
He took two steps closer, his eyes fell on her ankles, his brows slightly furrowed, his tone filled with a hint of reproach and concern.
"How did you stand up by yourself? Your foot isn't healed yet, why are you moving around?" He quickly walked to her side and held her arm with a gentle but unyielding force.
Shen Liwu smiled, her eyes curved into crescents, and reached out to gently pat the back of his hand.
"It's okay. I'm just standing there for a while. Moving around is good for your health."
Her voice was soft, with a hint of coquettishness, "Look, I drank the soup. Dongdong brought it to me."
