Her heart skipped a beat, as if it were being gripped by an invisible hand. She tried to calm herself down and raised her eyes calmly, "Doctor Chen, what do you mean by this? I was just passing by, how could I have heard something I shouldn't have heard?"
Chen Yichu's eyes were fixed on her, as if he was examining every inch of her expression. After a moment, he suddenly smiled, "Really?"
Chen Yichu had a sharp knife hidden in his sleeve. Just when a section of it was exposed, a male voice suddenly came from behind him, and he immediately hid the knife back into his sleeve.
"Sister-in-law, why are you here? I was looking for you. Go away, sister-in-law, Brother Jing is still waiting for you."
Bai Jingnan's appearance was like a timely rain, breaking the tense confrontation between Chen Yichui and Shen Liwu.
Shen Liwu's heart was still beating wildly in her chest, and her fingertips were slightly numb. She tried to steady her breathing, but there was still a trace of panic.
"Why are you here?" Shen Liwu's voice was low and hoarse, with a bit of relief after surviving a disaster. She walked quickly to Bai Jingnan's side, her eyes intentionally or unintentionally avoiding the direction of Chen Yichu.
"Brother Jing asked me to pick you up because he was worried that something might happen to you on the way. Sister-in-law, Brother Jing really cares about you so much that even I, his good brother, envy him." His tone was flat, but his eyes were alert, and his eyes were always fixed on Chen Yichui not far away.
Shen Liwu nodded lightly, his fingers unconsciously grasping the corner of his clothes, as if grasping a life-saving straw.
"Then let's go. It's time for me to go back."
Chen Yichu stood there, his face as gloomy as the dark clouds before a storm.
His eyes swept coldly over Shen Liwu and Bai Jingnan, a sneer appeared on the corner of his mouth, and there was a hint of provocation in his voice, "Doctor Shen, I will discuss the case with you tomorrow."
"Okay, see you, Doctor Chen."
Shen Liwu followed Bai Jingnan and walked a long distance away. Bai Jingnan whispered to Shen Liwu, "Sister-in-law, how dare you lie at the door and eavesdrop? If we hadn't been watching you in the dark, you wouldn't be able to leave the hospital today."
Shen Liwu's steps paused slightly, a chill in his heart crawled up his spine, and his fingers unconsciously grasped the backpack straps.
She lowered her voice, afraid of being heard, "Have you been staring at him?"
Bai Jingnan nodded, and scanned the surroundings vigilantly. After confirming that no one was following him, he whispered back, "Brother Jing has long suspected that Chen Yichu had problems, and asked me to keep an eye on him. We also found that he was colluding with people outside the country. He was the one who killed Shen Jiajia. I saw him draw his knife just now. Fortunately, I arrived in time, otherwise you would have ended up like Shen Jiajia."
Shen Liwu's heart sank, "You just told me that? The army won't hold anyone accountable? Aren't these confidential?"
Bai Jingnan: “…”
Isn't he just speaking his mind? I forgot.
"Good sister-in-law, you won't tell anyone, right? I just said it because I want you to pay more attention to Chen Yichu."
Shen Liwu stopped at the end of the hospital corridor. The light shone through the glass window onto her profile, casting a faint shadow.
She tilted her head slightly, looking at Bai Jingnan with complicated eyes, and a helpless smile appeared on the corner of her mouth, "You have already said it, what else can I do? Am I supposed to tell him now?"
Bai Jingnan scratched his head, the embarrassment on his face becoming more and more obvious, "Sister-in-law, that's not what I meant..."
She waved her hand and interrupted him. "Okay, I know you speak your mind. But next time, it's better not to mention such confidential matters."
