Bai Jingnan nodded repeatedly, with a guilty look in his eyes, "I know, sister-in-law. Don't mention it to Brother Jing!"
No, he must be punished.
"Don't do it again. Be careful with your words next time."
"Yes, yes, sister-in-law, I can only take you here. I have a mission and will go back first."
He also had to go back and keep an eye on Chen Yichui. There was going to be a big event tonight and he couldn't let him down.
After Shen Liwu returned home, she heard that Zhou Yanjing and his men were on a mission. She cooked a meal for herself. It was already dark when someone suddenly shouted "Catch the thief" in the family compound. When Shen Liwu ran out of the compound, she saw Aunt Gao slap her thigh:
"Oh, who the hell stole my eggs and ruined my rice? I was giving those to my eldest grandson!"
"Aunt Gao, there are soldiers guarding the compound, so how could thieves get in? Did you get framed on purpose?"
"That's right. We haven't had any thieves in such a long time since we came here. The only thing we did was have a lot of vegetables stolen. We don't know who the thief is yet!"
"That's right. Some people are just crying thief, deliberately trying to gain sympathy from everyone and get gifts from them."
…
Everyone in the family compound had their vegetables stolen by Aunt Gao, so when they heard that her things were stolen, they were gloating and no one was willing to help her.
Shen Liwu stood at the door, looking at the noise in the crowd from afar, frowning slightly.
She knew in her heart that this matter was most likely caused by Aunt Gao, but she didn't want to get involved.
Just as I was thinking about whether to turn around and go back to the house, there was a sudden commotion among the crowd. Shen Liwu looked up and saw Aunt Gao pointing angrily at the small pile of rice in the corner of the yard, shouting: "Look, look! My rice has been ruined like this! Isn't this the work of thieves?"
"Oh, it's really rice, Aunt Gao, you must have done so many bad things that the thieves couldn't stand it anymore and came to steal from your house, right? Haha!"
The crowd burst into laughter. Aunt Gao's face turned red. She glared at those who were laughing at her with gritted teeth. Her fists were clenched so tightly that her nails almost dug into the flesh of her palms.
She turned her head suddenly, her eyes swept across the crowd, and finally stopped on Wu Fen.
Wu Fen felt that gaze and her heart skipped a beat. She subconsciously tried to avoid it, but it was too late.
Aunt Gao strode towards her, the anger on her face almost bursting out, "Wu Fen, please judge for yourself! How come our family was the only one to be robbed in this yard? Do you also think I'm lying?"
Wu Fen frowned slightly, her fingers unconsciously stroking the corners of her clothes, and she tried to speak in a calm tone, "Aunt Gao, I didn't see this kind of thing, so it's hard to say anything. But there are soldiers on duty in the compound, so it stands to reason that no thief should have come in."
When Aunt Gao heard this, she became even more furious and her voice rose a few notches. "Why, are you saying that I'm wrongly accusing someone? I saw with my own eyes a figure running out of my yard!"
The people around started whispering again, some shook their heads and sighed, while others smiled with glee.
Shen Liwu stood at the door, watching this farce with cold eyes, feeling annoyed. She didn't want to get involved in such a boring argument and was about to turn around and go into the house, but was stopped by Aunt Gao's scream.
"Deputy Captain Zhou's wife! Say something rude!" Aunt Gao's sharp voice cut through the night sky, drawing everyone's attention to Shen Liwu.
