Chapter 88 Do You Love Your Wife? (2/2)

Shen Liwu almost screamed, glared at him fiercely, snatched the backpack and rushed home. A man's merry low laugh could be heard from behind, mixed with the rustling sound of bamboo strips rubbing against each other.

Under the old pear tree at the gate of the courtyard, Zhou's mother was standing on tiptoe to pick dried peppers that were drying in the sun. Seeing her daughter-in-law running over breathlessly, she quickly wiped her hands on her apron: "Oh, slow down, look at how sweaty you are..."

Just as Shen Liwu was about to take off the backpack, he was suddenly stopped by a pair of large hands with distinct joints. Zhou Yanjing caught up with him at some point and easily picked up the backpack and put it in the corner.

Zhou's mother smiled so much that the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes looked like little flowers: "Why do you need to carry so many things? Your delicate skin must have turned red from the pressure."

"It's okay, mom. It's not serious." Shen Liwu breathed a sigh of relief.

"It would be strange if it wasn't heavy. I've been carrying corn all my life, how could I not know how heavy it is."

After Zhou's mother finished speaking, she immediately turned around and glared at Zhou Yanjing, scolding him, "Do you love your wife? You asked her to carry such a heavy load of corn. Don't you know how weak Wuwu is? As a man, you should be more responsible."

Zhou Yanjing touched his nose and looked at Shen Liwu with a smile in his eyes, "Did you hear that? Mom said I should love you more." He said

Shen Liwu dodged sideways and deliberately put on a stern face, “I can do it myself.”

But the straps of the backpack still hurt her shoulders, even though she had never complained when carrying wild boars before.

Zhou Yanjing took two steps forward and tugged at her clothes on her shoulders without saying a word. When he saw the red mark on her collarbone, his brows immediately twisted into a knot. "You're still trying to be brave even though you've been rubbed red?"

Upon hearing this, Zhou's mother hurried over and saw the glaring red mark on her daughter-in-law's fair skin. She smacked her lips in pain: "Oh my, this silly child..."

She turned around, picked up the broom from the corner and hit her son with it, "You stupid fool! Are you just going to let her do what she wants?"

Zhou Yanjing took a few hits without dodging, but instead protected Shen Liwu behind him, "Mom, calm down, I was inconsiderate."

Shen Liwu pulled the corner of his clothes and poked his head out, "Mom, I really insisted on carrying it..."

"You!" Zhou's mother threw the broom and poked her forehead, "Why are you being polite to him? Men should work harder!"

As he spoke, he picked up a basket of corn and walked towards the main room, muttering, "When I was pregnant with Yanjing, I didn't go to the fields to harvest wheat for eight months. If his father dared to let me carry the load, I would break his legs..."

Shen Liwu chuckled, looked up and saw Zhou Yanjing's helpless expression, and couldn't help but reach out to smooth the wrinkles between his eyebrows.

"Okay, I'll let you perform next time. I promise I won't let you get beaten by mom."

He grabbed her wrist and gently rubbed the red mark with his thumb, "There won't be a next time."

The scorching sun burned the country road, and the sound of cicadas rose and fell. Shen Liwu's back was already soaked with sweat, and the thin shirt stuck to his skin.

She secretly glanced at the man next to her and found that there were also crystal beads of sweat on his neck, rolling down his protruding Adam's apple into his collar.

"Take a break." Zhou Yanjing put down the backpack on his back and suddenly took the straw fan from the wall to fan her. The large straw fan fluttered in his hands, creating a breeze with the fragrance of corn.

Shen Liwu was about to say no, when he suddenly felt a black screen in front of his eyes. She subconsciously grabbed Zhou Yanjing's arm.

"Dizzy?" A warm hand immediately supported her lower back, and the voice suddenly became tense. Shen Liwu felt dizzy and was picked up sideways. She struggled to get down, but she heard an unquestionable command from above her head: "Don't move."

Zhou Yanjing hurriedly carried her into the room. When Zhou's mother saw them, she let out a cry and the two of them disappeared.

"Both children, drink some water first! Are you in such a hurry?"

Zhou Yanjing strode through the main room, and the mud on the soles of his shoes fell to the ground. Shen Liwu curled up in his arms and could clearly hear his heartbeat like a drum in his chest.
