"Put me down..." She protested softly, grabbing his sweaty collar.
When Zhou Yanjing kicked open the door, two sparrows embracing each other on the window frame were startled.
He put her on the bed and stroked her sweaty temple with his fingertips: "How dare you hold on when you have heatstroke?"
"I don't have heatstroke." How could she not know if she had heatstroke? But it's strange that this phenomenon has never happened before.
"Let me go, I'll take your pulse myself."
Instead of letting go, Zhou Yanjing leaned over and trapped her between the bed and his chest. Shadows fell, and his eyelashes cast a dark blue hue under his eyes, the color of his eyes was several shades darker than the day before.
"A doctor cannot heal himself." He used his fingertips to push aside the sweaty hair on her forehead, his voice hoarse as if it had been polished with sandpaper, "Let me do it."
Shen Liwu was about to refute when he suddenly grabbed her wrist and pressed it against the pillow. The man's palm was broad and warm, and the calluses from the gun at the base of his thumb made her pulse burn. He lowered his eyes and stared at the light blue veins on her wrist, his Adam's apple rolling up and down.
"How is it?" she asked, holding her breath.
Zhou Yanjing suddenly lowered his head, and the tip of his nose almost touched her carotid artery. The warm breath sprayed on the sensitive skin, causing a small shudder.
"Your heart rate is too fast." His voice came muffled from the crook of her neck, "Your body temperature is high."
The rough fingertips slowly moved up along the inside of her arm, finally stopping at the elbow. "Capillaries are dilated."
Shen Liwu's whole body was stiff, and she watched his slender fingers unbutton the first button of her collar. When the cold metal buckle brushed against her collarbone, she finally found her voice: "Zhou Yanjing!"
"Shh..." He pressed his index finger against her soft lips, "I'm listening to her heart's stethoscope." After saying that, he actually put his ear against her chest, and the short hair at his temples pricked her skin, making it slightly itchy.
The sound of cicadas outside the window suddenly became deafening. Shen Liwu looked at the busy spider on the beam, and vaguely felt that the spider web was covering his heart.
She could clearly feel the rise and fall of his chest with every breath, and the rustling sound of the fabric of his military uniform.
"I found it. He fainted because he missed me so much and couldn't bear to see me suffer." Zhou Yanjing said narcissistically.
Shen Liwu puffed and pushed him aside.
"You really think you're a miracle doctor, you're so narcissistic, and I fainted because I missed you too much. Don't bother me."
Shen Liwu sat up and took her own pulse seriously, but she couldn't laugh anymore.
Zhou Yanjing saw her smile gradually disappearing and immediately sat up straight, and asked nervously: "What's wrong?"
Shen Liwu placed his fingers on his pulse and confirmed it several times. Her eyelashes trembled slightly, her lips were pursed into a straight line, and after a long while she raised her eyes to look at him, her eyes still flickering with complex light.
"I think..." Her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible, "I'm pregnant."
Zhou Yanjing's pupils suddenly contracted and his whole body froze in place.
The sunlight filtered through the window, casting mottled shadows between them. The dust particles floating in the air seemed to have stopped. He slowly stretched out his hand, but stopped just before touching her, his fingertips trembling slightly.
"Are you sure?" His voice was hoarse.
Shen Liwu lowered her eyes, her long eyelashes casting a shadow on her face.
"The pulse is smooth and flowing like a pearl..." She paused, raised her eyes and looked directly at him, "It should be more than a month."
She recalled that she had not had her period for more than a month.
The golden sunlight slanted onto the bed, and Zhou Yanjing's Adam's apple rolled violently several times. He stood up suddenly, his shoes knocking on the brick floor with a dull sound, and his hands hung in the air as if he didn't know where to put them.
