"My wife is beautiful." Zhou Yanjing answered without hesitation. He put his arm around her shoulders and lowered his head to gently kiss her forehead.
It seemed as if there was a little rabbit in Shen Liwu's chest, jumping around non-stop. Then she gently pushed him away and said, "Stop messing around and pack up quickly. We have to attend the promotion banquet soon."
Zhou Yanjing nodded, let her go, and turned around to organize his clothes. The room suddenly became quiet, with only the sound of light footsteps and the rubbing of clothes remaining. Shen Liwu stood there, looking at his tall figure, a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
After a while, Zhou Yanjing dressed neatly and turned to look at her, "Come on, it's almost time."
Family members are allowed to visit. This is Zhou Yanjing’s promotion banquet and she wants to go and see it.
Shen Liwu nodded and followed him out of the room. In the living room, sunlight poured in through the windows, giving the entire house a golden hue. She took a deep breath, feeling the fresh morning air, and her mood became relaxed.
They walked out of the house side by side, and Zhou Yanjing held her hand gently. His palms were warm and rough, giving people a sense of solid security.
Shen Liwu lowered his head to glance at the two people's clasped hands, and a smile unconsciously rose at the corner of his mouth.
"Zhou Yanjing, aren't you afraid of a bad influence if you hold hands in the family compound?" Shen Liwu asked softly. Although she said so, her hands did not show any intention of breaking free.
Zhou Yanjing glanced at her sideways, a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth, "Who dares to say anything when you hold your own wife's hand?" His voice was low and firm, with an unquestionable momentum.
Shen Liwu’s face heated up slightly, she lowered her eyes, and said nothing more. The two of them walked hand in hand in silence towards the gate of the staff quarters.
On the way, I occasionally met a few familiar neighbors. Seeing them holding hands, they all smiled kindly, and some even joked: "Oh, Captain Zhou and his wife are so loving! Da Tian doesn't even want to let go of their hands."
"I just joined the army and I'm newlywed. What's wrong with being a little clingy?"
Zhou Yanjing simply nodded indifferently as a response, while Chen Liwu lowered her head in embarrassment, the blush on her face becoming more obvious.
Walking out of the family compound, there is a wide road outside. The morning sun shines on the ground and the air is filled with a faint fragrance of grass and trees. The trees on the side of the road are lush and leafy, and the breeze makes a rustling sound.
Zhou Yanjing's steps were neither fast nor slow, and he never let go of Shen Liwu's hand. His eyes would occasionally scan her profile, and when he saw her slightly red ears, his heart couldn't help but warm.
"Are you tired?" he asked suddenly in a gentle voice.
Shen Liwu shook her head with a faint smile on her lips, "I'm not tired, it's just that the words of those sisters-in-law just now were too straightforward. You are not allowed to hold hands in the family compound in the future."
Zhou Yanjing held her hand tightly, and gently stroked the back of her hand with his fingertips. "In my eyes, you are my daughter-in-law. It is natural for me to hold your hand. You don't need to care about what others say."
There was a hint of stubbornness in his deep voice, and the determination between his brows did not waver in the slightest.
Shen Liwu pursed her lips gently, raised her eyes and looked at him, with a hint of helplessness in her eyes, “You were not like this before.”
Zhou Yanjing curled the corners of his lips, his eyes fell on her slightly red ears, and his voice lowered, "I've never kissed before, so I don't understand."
Shen Liwu was choked by his words and was speechless. She could only glare at him, but there was no blame in her eyes, but instead a bit of coquettishness.
The two of them walked all the way to the outside of the banquet hall. When the guard at the door saw Zhou Yanjing, he immediately straightened his back and saluted with a standard military salute, "Hello, Deputy Commander Zhou!"
Zhou Yanjing nodded slightly, his expression became more serious, but he held Shen Liwu's hand but did not let go.
Entering the banquet hall, it was already bustling with activity. The officers were wearing neat uniforms, and their family members gathered in groups of three or four, chatting and laughing.
Zhou Yanjing arranged Shen Liwu's seat, "You sit here, and we'll go home after I come down."
Shen Liwu nodded gently, and glanced around the banquet hall. The atmosphere around him was lively but not noisy, and bursts of laughter and conversation came to his ears.
Zhou Yanjing stood beside her and looked down at her with a hint of concern between his eyebrows. "Would you like some water? I'll go get you a glass."
