"My wife is so beautiful." Zhou Yanjing's mouth corners slightly raised, with undisguised admiration in his eyes. He walked forward, gently took her hand, and rubbed the back of her hand with his fingertips, as if to confirm her existence.
Shen Liwu's cheeks flushed slightly, her eyes lowered, but the corners of her mouth quietly curled up. She didn't break free from his hand and let him hold it.
"Let's go to the river." Zhou Yanjing's voice was low and gentle, as if he was afraid of disturbing her mood at the moment.
The two walked out of the yard one after the other and walked towards the river along the path in the village. The sun shone on them, feeling warm, and the air was mixed with the scent of earth and grass, fresh and peaceful.
Shen Liwu walked very slowly, as if she was enjoying this rare leisure, while Zhou Yanjing always followed her.
When they reached the river, Zhou Yanjing let go of her hand, bent down to pick up a branch, and paddled it in the shallow water of the river a few times, as if looking for traces of fish. The river water is so clear that you can see the bottom. A few small fish are swimming in the water, splashing tiny water droplets.
"Look, there's a big one over there." Zhou Yanjing pointed at the water, his eyes lighting up.
Shen Liwu looked in the direction he pointed, and suddenly saw a palm-sized fish swimming in the water, its scales shining silver in the sun. She couldn't help holding her breath, for fear of disturbing it.
Zhou Yanjing moved quickly. Before she could react, he had taken off his shoes, rolled up his trouser legs, and stepped into the water barefoot.
Shen Liwu tested the water, it wasn’t cold, the weather was hot, so it would be nice to play in the water for a while.
Zhou Yanjing stood in the river, the water slowly flowing over his calves, and the cool feeling refreshed him. He held a branch in his hand and stared at the fish in the water with such concentration that it seemed as if the whole world only included him and the fish.
"Be careful, don't let it run away!" Her voice was low, with a hint of nervous excitement, as if she was afraid of scaring the fish.
Zhou Yanjing turned around and saw her go into the water, frowned and ignored the fish, and walked quickly towards Shen Liwu. The river water stirred up circles of ripples under his feet, and water droplets splashed, wetting his trouser legs. He reached out to hold her arm, his voice blaming her, "Why did you come down? Although the water is not cold, you are not feeling well right now. What if you slip?"
Shen Liwu looked up at him, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, with a hint of mischief in her eyes, “It’s okay, I’m not a child, I can take care of myself.”
"This is a matter involving two people, so you have to be cautious." Although Zhou Yanjing's tone was serious, his eyes were full of concern. He held her hand tightly, as if he was afraid that she would really fall.
Shen Liwu felt the warmth coming from his palm, and his heart felt warm. She gently struggled to get her hands free and said with a smile, "I want to play too. You can't just let yourself have fun and ignore me."
Zhou Yanjing was stunned for a moment, then smiled helplessly, "Okay, if you want to play, then I'll accompany you."
He picked up Shen Liwu and walked to a deeper place. The water gradually flowed over his knees, and Shen Liwu's feet were also soaked in the cool river water. She couldn't help but let out a soft cry, and her toes gently skimmed across the water, causing tiny ripples.
