Chapter 89 Pregnancy (2/2)

"I'll boil some egg water for you." He knocked over a bench when he turned around and tried to fix it in a panic.

Shen Liwu looked at his back with his hands and feet trembling, and the corners of his mouth rose unconsciously.

She lowered her head and stroked her still flat belly, feeling the blood beating happily in her pulse with her fingertips. The sparrows outside the window chirped and flew over the eaves, shaking off a few feathers that floated into the house.

The sound of pots and pans colliding could be heard from the kitchen, along with Zhou's mother's surprised question: "Why are you boiling egg water at this time? Wuwu is feeling unwell?"

"Well... that..." The deputy head, who was always resolute and swift, hesitated at this moment, "She is a little..."

Mother Zhou was confused by what she heard, so she simply looked at Shen Liwu herself, not wanting to pay attention to this stupid son who couldn't even speak clearly.

Zhou's mother came to the door of the bedroom and knocked, "Wuwu, I'm coming in."

Zhou's mother pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing Shen Liwu still feeling her pulse, she frowned and walked in to ask, "Wuwu, what's wrong? I asked Yan Jing that kid, but he couldn't explain it clearly. His mouth was trembling."

Shen Liwu hurriedly retracted the fingers on her wrist, and two red clouds rose on her cheeks.

"Mom..." She bit her lower lip, her voice as soft as a mosquito's, "I'm pregnant..."

"Really?" The rag in Zhou's mother's hand fell to the ground with a plop, and her eyes instantly became moist. She rushed to the bedside in two steps, and carefully held Shen Liwu's face with her rough hands, "Ancestors bless! Our Zhou family has an heir!"

Suddenly, there was a crisp sound of a porcelain bowl breaking from the direction of the stove, followed by Zhou Yanjing's hurried footsteps. He stood at the door, his chest heaving violently, and his hands were stained with egg liquid.

"Mom...please keep your voice down..." His voice trembled, but his eyes were surprisingly bright.

Zhou's mother suddenly slapped her thigh and said, "Oh, you have to tell your dad right away!"

With that he rushed out of the house like a whirlwind, almost knocking over the corn cobs on the clothesline.

The yard was suddenly in chaos. Father Zhou was sharpening his sickle by the well. When he looked up after hearing the sound, his wife had already grabbed his arm and was shaking him: "Old man! You're going to be a grandfather!"

The sickle slammed into the wooden basin with a clang, startling the hen so much that it flew up to the top of the wall.

Zhou Yanjing half-knelt on the edge of the bed, his palm gently covering Chen Liwu's lower abdomen. The rough fingertips drew circles through the cotton clothes, like measuring the outline of some treasure.

"Last night..." His Adam's apple rolled, "I should have been more careful..."

Shen Liwu’s ears burned red, and he grabbed a pillow and threw it at him: “Shut up!”

How embarrassing it would be if my parents heard it.

"Wuwu, thank you." She had said before that she wanted a child, but he didn't take it seriously. He didn't expect that she would really be pregnant.

The surprise came so suddenly that he was a little overwhelmed.

"What are you thanking me for? This is our child, the fruit of our love. I am very happy."

Zhou Yanjing knelt on one knee in front of the bed, his forehead resting on the back of Shen Liwu's hand, a dark sweat stain spread across the back of his military uniform. His shoulder blades moved slightly beneath the cloth, like an eagle with its wings folded.

"Yes, it is the fruit of our love."

He kissed the back of her hand like a devout believer.

Zhou's father and mother outside the door did not come in either. They just greeted him, "Wuwu, lie down and rest for a while. Mom will kill a chicken and make soup for you."

After that, she added, "Yan Jing, Wu Wu is not feeling well now, you must not bother her, let her have a good rest, or I will punish you."
