Chapter 136 Make amends

Grandma Jiang woke up from her afternoon nap and came out. She was quite surprised to see her daughter-in-law return.

"It's raining outside, why did you come back?"

The rain outside isn't as heavy as it used to be, but the pattering sound is still a bit annoying.

Grandma Jiang dislikes rain the most. In the past, when it rained, many people's houses leaked, and they didn't even dare to sleep at night, for fear that the house would suddenly be washed away by the rain and people would be buried inside.

"Mom, I'm back home early because everything's alright at school."

Shen Min had already helped Jiang Yue and Yao Hua pack their things and had also told Aunt Zhang to cook dinner early that evening.

It rained all day, and by the time Jiang Yue and Yao Hua were about to go to school, the rain hadn't stopped, it had just lessened a little.

Grandma Jiang frowned as she looked at the rain outside. "If this rain keeps falling, it will be very inconvenient to catch a bus when it gets dark."

There's a stretch of road to the bus stop that's not easy to walk on. It's okay during the day, but it's easy to slip and fall at night when it's raining.

Shen Min was equally worried, "If Huaiyuan were in City A right now, that would be great. He has a car, and I could call him to come and take Yueyue and Huahua to school."

But Shen Huaiyuan left City A a few days ago, saying he went to get some kind of machine.

Lu Jingnian came out of the study and, upon hearing Grandma Jiang and Shen Min's conversation, smiled and said, "Grandma, don't worry. I've asked a friend to come and drive Yueyue and the others to school in a little while."

"That's great!"

Upon hearing that Lu Jingnian had borrowed the car, Grandma Jiang was immediately relieved.

Her judgment was indeed correct. Despite Jing Nian's young age, she always felt that Lu Jing Nian was more reliable than her two sons and two grandsons.

Twenty minutes later.

Outside, a black Santana was parked in front of the Jiang family's house.

Hearing the commotion, Grandma Jiang and the others quickly came out with their umbrellas.

Shen Min helped Grandma Jiang up. "Mom, we still have plenty of time. Let's invite them over for a cup of tea. They're Jing Nian's friends, we can't be rude to them."

Grandma Jiang nodded, "Yes, that's how it should be."

The car stopped in front of the Jiang family's house.

When Shen Min saw the car door open, she was about to speak, but when she saw who got out, her smile froze on her lips and she stopped in her tracks.

"Su Chen?"

Jiang Yue frowned when she saw the man get out of the car.

A murderous glint flashed in Lu Jingnian's eyes.

Of the group, only Grandma Jiang had never seen Su Chen after he grew up. Seeing that her daughter-in-law's expression was a little off, Grandma Jiang's mind stirred slightly, and she smiled as she looked at the man walking towards them with an umbrella.

"Comrade, what brings you to our home?"

Although they didn't know who the young man in front of them was, he definitely didn't seem to be a friend of their Jing Nian.

Su Chen pushed up his black-rimmed glasses with gold trim and gave a polite, harmless smile. "Grandma Jiang, I'm Su Chen. Do you still remember me?"

"Su Chen?"

Upon hearing this name, Grandma Jiang's expression instantly turned serious as she carefully examined the young man standing before her. "So it's you, child."

"After all these years, you've come to our house again. Have you come to apologize to Yueyue?"

"What are you saying, old woman?"

Su Ning couldn't stand hearing people talk about her brother. Upon hearing Grandma Jiang's words, she immediately rushed out of the car, pointing at Grandma Jiang without even opening her umbrella, and shouted, "My brother came to pick up your granddaughter from night school because it was raining. And you actually want him to apologize for that little thing from back then? You're like dogs biting Lü Dongbin, not recognizing a kind heart."

"Young lady, you can't say that."

Grandma Jiang's face turned cold. "Back then, your brother hit my granddaughter with a brick and she was in a coma for half a month. If it weren't for my granddaughter's good fortune, she might never have woken up. Your brother hurt my granddaughter so badly, but he never apologized. Am I wrong to ask him this now?"

Because Su Chen was only seven years old at the time, he couldn't be sent to jail.

After much mediation, the Su family had no choice but to pay compensation to settle the matter. However, the Su family didn't have much money at the time, and the compensation wasn't even enough to cover Jiang Yue's medical expenses.

The Jiang family asked Su Chen and his sister to apologize to Jiang Yue, but they refused. Before the Jiang family could go to the Su family again, something happened, and the Su family moved away overnight. The matter was thus left unresolved.

Fortunately, Jiang Yue woke up the day after the Su family moved out.

Otherwise, Grandma Jiang would never let Su Chen go no matter what.

"You can leave now, you're not welcome in our home."

Grandma Jiang, with a cold face, began to shoo people away.

So many years have passed, and her granddaughter is doing well now, so she doesn't want to pursue the matter any further.

I just don't want to see those two siblings anymore.

Instead of being angry when he was kicked out, Su Chen lowered his stance even further.

"Grandma Jiang, I was wrong about what happened back then. I was too young and ignorant and hurt Jiang Yue. I have always felt guilty about it."

I do owe her an apology.

Su Chen's tone was sincere, and coupled with his current refined and gentle demeanor, it was difficult for him to give a bad impression.

"Brother, how could you?"

Hearing that Su Chen was actually going to apologize to Jiang Yue, Su Ning became a little anxious.

What's wrong with her brother? Is he bewitched by Jiang Yue? Why is he being so nice to Jiang Yue?

"Ningning, we really made a mistake."

Su Chen looked at Su Ning seriously, "Come with me to apologize to Jiang Yue and Grandma Jiang."

Su Ning was unwilling, but seeing Su Chen's angry eyes, she immediately dared not argue anymore. She cared about Su Chen a lot, but she also knew how terrible Su Chen could be when he was angry.

"Grandma Jiang, my sister is being immature, please don't take it to heart."

Su Chen gave a gentle and harmless smile and looked apologetically at Jiang Yue, who was standing next to Lu Jingnian. "Jiang Yue, although I apologized to you yesterday, I still want to formally apologize to you again today."

I'm so sorry for hurting you so badly when you were little.

I don't ask for your forgiveness, I only hope you can give me a chance to make amends.

Jiang Yue suddenly laughed at Su Chen's apology, "You said you wanted to make it up to me?"

Su Chen nodded, "Yes, I came back this time to make up for the hurt I caused you back then."

Jiang Yue nodded knowingly, then asked with utmost sincerity, "So how do you plan to make up for the harm you've caused me?"

Hearing this question, Su Chen's smile became even more sincere. "As long as you say it, as long as I can do it, even if it costs me my life, I won't blink an eye."

Upon hearing this, Lu Jingnian immediately gripped Jiang Yue's hand tightly.

Noticing Lu Jingnian's actions, a smile flashed in Su Chen's eyes. He then continued to say to Jiang Yue, "I owe you something, and I'm willing to repay it with everything I have, including myself, as long as you can forgive me."

Su Ning couldn't hold back any longer; she couldn't bear to see her brother so humble in front of Jiang Yue.

"Brother, what is it about her that makes you want to do this?"

"I made a mistake, and I'm here to atone for it. Ningning, don't interfere in this matter."

The umbrella in Su Chen's hand fell to the ground, and rainwater dripped from his short hair onto his white shirt, but he didn't look disheveled at all. Instead, he looked weak and pitiful.
