Chapter 308 Adopting a Puppy
The puppy looked to be only one month old, furry and held in Lizhan's arms, with its little ears drooping and two round, bean-like eyes. It looked at the entire Fu family with some fear, and couldn't help sobbing.
"Both the puppy's parents were service dogs raised by the army. The father dog died two months ago while on a mission. The mother dog also died a few days after giving birth to five puppies. The other four puppies were in good health, and the army kept them to train them as military dogs. This one was the weakest when it was born. It's more than a month old, but it's only half the size of its brothers and sisters. It failed several tests."
Li Zhan explained with a smile.
"Didn't you say last time that your family wanted to get a dog to guard the house and be safer? So I brought one back."
Xia Juanjuan had no resistance to this furry creature, especially one that was still young. She took it eagerly and said with a smile, "How cute! What kind is this?"
The little fellow had black fur and looked very much like the wolf cubs I had seen in the mountains before.
Xiaowen, Xiaowu, Beibei and the triplets all came over excitedly when they saw the adorable little guy.
"Mom, this little puppy looks just like the wolf cubs in the mountains!" Xiaowen also spent the night among a wolf pack, so he has a say.
The triplets pointed directly at the puppy and said in a loud voice: "Little wolf! Wolf!"
Fu Nanzheng came over and said with a smile, "You guys are quite knowledgeable. You'd better ask Third Brother about the breed of this dog. He knows it very well! This is a Kunming dog, from Yunnan Province. There is a special training school for breeding and training. The army and the public security have special organizations for it. It's very powerful! It has wolf blood, so it's loyal and obedient, fierce and agile, better than those foreign breeds!"
Li Zhan laughed and said, "Third brother is still very knowledgeable."
Fu Nanzheng said proudly: "That was not the case when I was a kid. Grandpa and dad once brought a few little Kunming dogs home and raised them for a while. They were very smart! I even secretly took meat from home to feed them, and the result was..."
Xiaowen and Xiaowu listened with great interest as if they were listening to a story, and became anxious when they saw that he stopped talking halfway.
Xiao Wu asked, "Uncle San, please tell me quickly. What happened? Did you get beaten?"
He remembered the last time he fed mixed-grain steamed buns to the lambs, his grandfather saw him and beat him up, scolding him for not knowing how to cherish food.
He was beaten for feeding steamed bread, but his third uncle fed meat.
Fu Nanzheng glared at Xiao Wu unhappily. What a tactless boy! He is not talking about the pot that is not open anymore, right?
Fu Weixin walked over with a smile and said, "Didn't he get beaten? He was punished by not eating meat for half a month. He was so spoiled by your third uncle that he almost ate his lackey's leg!"
Fu Nanzheng was still helpless: "Dad, how old am I? Why are you talking about the embarrassing things that happened back then? Do I still have any face left?"
Xia Juanjuan and Li Zhan couldn't help laughing.
The triplets were so anxious that they opened their arms, looked up, and shouted, "Mom! Wolf cubs! Yanyan wants to hold the wolf cubs!"
"Ye Ye wants to be hugged too!"
"Well...hug me!" Yaoyao also shouted a beat slower.
Xia Juanjuan smiled and petted the puppy for a long time before carefully handing it to the triplets, while instructing them, "You are not allowed to bully it. Keep scratching it with your hands, or they will be hurt. Do you hear me?"
Even though she had given them instructions, two or three years old is the age when cats and dogs dislike each other, so Xia Juanjuan still kept an eye on them all the time. If they tried to use force, she would immediately step forward to stop them.
Although the puppy is small, it is the first time I see it and I have never raised one before. It would be bad if it gets angry and bites people.
Fortunately, the triplets were quite obedient. They all circled around the puppy with excitement, patting and touching it with their little hands. The three little ones plus the puppy seemed to get along peacefully. Xiaowen, Xiaowu and Beibei also held the puppy for a while and couldn't let it go.
"Mom, can we really raise it? If we can, I will follow grandpa to the mountains every day to catch wild rabbits and raise it!" Xiaowen said.
"And me! And me!" Xiao Wu was not to be outdone.
Xia Juanjuan smiled and said, "Who told you to go up the mountain to catch wild rabbits every day? Can't you study anymore?"
When Xiaowen and Xiaowu heard about going to school, they couldn't help but frown.
Alas... When I was little, I didn't know the benefits of not going to school. Now I know, but I can't go back to the good days when I didn't go to school.
Beibei looked at his two disappointing brothers and said proudly, "Mom, I like going to school! I will definitely get 100 points at the end of the semester, and then use your reward money to buy meat for the puppy!"
Xia Juanjuan smiled and said, "If you can win first place, you don't have to use your prize money to buy it. Mom will pay for the meat."
The kids were all delighted by what they heard.
The little puppy was kept at home and given a rather casual name, "Wolf Cub".
After staying in Beijing for a few days, Xia Juanjuan took the children back to Qingshui Village.
Mr. Fu and Fu Weixin were naturally reluctant to let her go, but it was not easy to force her to stay all of a sudden.
They haven't given up the idea of letting Juanjuan return to Beijing. Even though the house in the compound is a bit crowded, they have to arrange accommodation for her first before bringing up this matter.
However, before Xia Juanjuan returned to Qingshui Village, she took the opportunity when Lizhan returned to the army to deal with some matters, and took the triplets to the sanatorium to visit Grandma Luo.
These days, every time she came to Beijing through the space, she would go to see Grandma Luo. Therefore, Grandma Luo had gotten used to it. On the contrary, every few days when she didn't see Xia Juanjuan coming, she would hang around the door several times, secretly observing whether she had come or not.
The staff at the nursing home also liked Xia Juanjuan's visit. Why? She never came empty-handed. Although she only brought things for her aunt, other people also benefited from her presence.
This time, Xia Juanjuan brought her triplets here for the first time.
The security guard saw them and greeted them from a distance with a smile: "Isn't this Xiao Xia? You're here? Who are these three little guys? Oh! They look exactly the same, are they triplets?"
Xia Juanjuan lowered her head and said to the triplets, "Call me Grandpa Zeng and Grandpa Li, these are my three little ones."
The triplets shouted earnestly in their baby voices, "Hello, Grandpa Zeng!"
Mr. Li was extremely envious: "Oh! These three little boys are so handsome! Not to mention three, if my daughter-in-law could give birth to two for me, I would wake up laughing in my dreams!"
Xia Juanjuan smiled and said, "Master Li, where is my aunt?"
"I guess he's in his room. He came to the door several times yesterday. I guess he missed you!" said Mr. Li with a smile.
Xia Juanjuan nodded and said with a smile, "I was a bit busy these days, so I didn't come. Grandpa, these are the peanuts we roasted ourselves. Here's a bag for you, you can eat them when you're free."
Mr. Li laughed and said, "I'm so sorry, I always eat yours."
"It's okay. Then Master Li, I'll go in first."
Grandma Luo was also very happy when she saw the triplets. She smiled and said, "These three really look like they were cast in the same mold. It's hard to tell who is who in the blink of an eye. It's great!"
Xia Juanjuan asked the triplets to call her "Grandma".
After hearing this, Grandma Luo couldn't help but lift up her sleeves to wipe her tears, and replied: "Oh! Good boy! By the way! Juanjuan, you are so mean. You didn't tell me in advance that you brought them here. I didn't prepare anything..."
Xia Juanjuan smiled and said, "Aunt, what do you have to prepare? They are the younger generation, and they should have been brought here for you to see a long time ago."
Grandma Luo sighed, feeling both sad and relieved.
She never thought that day she was just thinking about selling the house, giving up the idea, and coming to Beijing to spend the rest of her life with the remains of her children.
I chose Xia Juanjuan as the buyer because I just liked her at first sight and I didn't do any in-depth investigation or research.
However, it was this one thought that brought so much warmth and laughter to her originally lonely and helpless old age.
