Chapter 55 Departure to H City
By sunset, Lin Qingqing had finally packed her things, taking a suitcase with her and two large sacks of things to mail.
After Lin's mother had tidied up the yard, she came over to take a look and felt that there were too few things, so she picked up some more things and packed a sack.
Seeing that the three large sacks were full of things and could not be stuffed any more, Lin's mother clapped her hands in satisfaction and called Lin Zhiqing to bring the sacks to the yard.
Lin Zhiqing will go to the market with Lin Qingqing early tomorrow morning. The earlier he goes, the earlier he can earn money. Lin Zhiqing doesn't want to stay idle at home right after the busy farming season.
So he just packed his bedding and will report to the factory tomorrow.
Lin Xu and his mother also agreed, and they felt at ease only after going to work.
After a while, Auntie and Xiaomei came over, also carrying a large sack. They carried it all the way here. People of this generation can endure hardships. They had smiles on their faces and didn't feel how tiring it was.
Auntie brought Xiaomei a thin blanket, clothes for four seasons, daily necessities and other things.
Lin Qingqing looked at the sack, which was bigger than her own, and said, "Xiaomei, take out the things you'll need these days, and mail the things you won't need with me."
Auntie waved her hands quickly: "Why waste that money? Just let Xiaomei carry it."
Song Yiyuan, who was sitting in the yard playing with Damao, said, "We have to change cars again on the way. Qingqing and I also have things to carry. It will be even more troublesome if Xiaomei carries such a big bag and gets squeezed and scattered on the road."
Li Lanying took out a big black bag from the room and said, "Xiaomei, put your things here. Put the rest of the things you don't need in the sack."
Lin's mother also advised: "Yes, it's easier to mail it. Look at Xiaomei's small body, how can she carry such a big sack?"
Seeing that several people had persuaded her, Aunt Lin finally gave in. She pulled Xiaomei, who was packing her things, aside and whispered to her, "You have a lot of money to spend when you're out. Don't let your sister pay for everything. Be frugal with the thirty yuan I gave you."
Xiaomei opened her big round eyes and took in everything her aunt said. As the saying goes, if you don't listen to the advice of the elderly, you will suffer the consequences. Xiaomei is not the kind of person who is arrogant and short-sighted.
"Mother Baojun, have you eaten yet?"
Aunt Lin walked in slowly from outside the door, holding a basin of eggs with a smile on her face.
Mother Lin put down the broom in her hand, looked at Aunt Lin for a moment, and after seeing the eggs in the basin clearly, she asked uncertainly, "Sister-in-law, what are you doing?"
This sister-in-law Lin's mother was very kind. Now that she is married, she doesn't feel uncomfortable at all. The family will be doing well in the future, and she stands tall and doesn't worry about anything.
Aunt Lin glanced cheerfully around the yard, glancing at Lin Qingqing and Song Yiyuan twice before replying, "I heard Qingqing is going to die, and we don't have much good food at home. I've been saving these eggs for a while now, so I boiled them and gave them to Qingqing to eat on the way."
Mother Lin glanced at Aunt Lin's face suspiciously. The weasel had no good intention in paying homage to the chicken. The two families had never interacted with each other before, so why did they give so many precious eggs all of a sudden? What was their intention?
Seeing that Lin's mother didn't take it, Aunt Lin stuffed the bowl directly into Li Zhaodi's hand. Li Zhaodi didn't dare to take it. She looked at Lin's mother and saw that she didn't object, so she took it reluctantly and went back to the kitchen to change the bowl.
Lin Qingqing had always been taking care of Xiaomei and had never even looked at her aunt. She once heard her aunt and the people in the village slandering her, and she was very vindictive.
Aunt Lin took the initiative to greet with a smile: "Qingqing, what time do you want to go out tomorrow morning?"
Lin Qingqing was still busy packing her things. Xiaomei smiled and said, "Aunt, we have to get up at 4 o'clock tomorrow morning."
Didn't my cousin ask me to go with the troops to deal with this kind of thing? She is very considerate.
Aunt Lin laughed awkwardly.
Aunt Lin saw that no one in the yard greeted her, and she didn't want to put herself in a cold position, so she took her own basin, said hello, and left.
Zhang Guilian, holding her baby, quickly asked, "Auntie, what's going on? The sun is rising from the west today. You were so stingy back then, but you gave me ten eggs today."
The Lin family members all had doubts about this. The eldest aunt's family was living well. They had conflicts with Lin's mother in the past because of the division of the family, and the two families did not interact much. No one could understand what happened today.
Li Zhaodi spat out a mouthful of melon seed shells, glanced at Song Yiyuan, and said with a squinting eye: "No matter what she is thinking, she can't hide what she has in her stomach. We will know in a few days."
Zhang Guilian and several sisters-in-law agreed very much.
After dinner in the evening, the Lin family members went to bed early. Lin Qingqing had already told her mother privately that they would not sleep together before getting the marriage certificate. Tonight she would sleep with her aunt and Xiaomei.
The next day, before dawn, the Lin family got up early again. When Lin Qingqing got up, Aunt Lin and Mother Lin had already packed the food. It would take two days to take the train to H City, and they would have to change trains in the middle, so they prepared two days of food.
The plums had been packed the day before. Lin Baojun borrowed an ox cart from the villagers. Now they had arrived. The brothers loaded the plums onto the ox cart. Lin Baojun and Lin Zhiqing stood beside the ox cart waiting for Lin Qingqing and the others to come.
In the yard, Lin's mother's tears never dried, her eyes were red from crying, she held Lin Qingqing's hand and gave her instructions left and right. If there were not so many people and the ox cart could not accommodate her, she would have wanted to send her to the city with her.
Lin Baojun shouted at the door: "Little sister, hurry up, we can't waste any more time."
Lin Qingqing coaxed softly, "Mom, I will come back every day. When I arrive at the army, I will send you a telegram."
After hearing this, Lin's mother reluctantly let go, wiped her tears with the corner of her clothes, and waved her hand, saying, "Okay, hurry up and don't waste time."
Lin Qingqing and a few others got on the ox cart, and the entire Lin family stood at the door to see them off.
Lin Qingqing looked at the family who were filled with reluctance, and the group of little kids who also had tears in their eyes. For the first time, she felt that she was the real Lin Qingqing.
When the ox cart was almost out of sight, the Lin family members were still standing at the door watching. After a while, they dispersed.
Lin Qingqing took an ox cart to the town station, and then had to take a bus for two hours to the city.
