Chapter 380 Hospital Conversation

“I can’t sleep much even if I want to. You’ll understand when you get to my age!” Li Xiaoxiao suddenly said with emotion.

Shen Qiaoyue looked up at Li Xiaoxiao and asked, "Auntie, are you missing Uncle? That's why you can't sleep."

"I do miss him, but he's so busy with work, he probably doesn't have time to miss me." Since Li Xiaoxiao started helping take care of her granddaughter, she and Shen Yuanyi have been living apart, seeing each other only a few times a year.

Shen Qiaoyue could tell that her aunt still really wanted her second uncle to come and see her.

"If you want to see your second uncle, why don't you go back and see him? I'll take leave and stay home to take care of the kids." Shen Qiaoyue thought that her work wasn't that important, after all, Wang Tiantian and Su Zhiyang were very capable now, and she didn't need to worry about their work.

Li Xiaoxiao shook her head and said, "No need. It's already October, and the New Year is just a few months away. I can go back then."

Shen Qiaoyue thought so too; the long journey back and forth was indeed very tiring.

It's good that the children are studying in Beijing. Shen Qiaoyue then asked, "Auntie, Xinlan and Brother Xu can actually take good care of the children themselves. Why don't you stay in Beijing for the rest of the year? We plan to send the children to Beijing for school when they are a little older."

“I have nothing to do in Beijing. All I do every day is wash clothes and cook for your second uncle. Although we love each other very much, he always leaves early and comes home late. I’m very bored by myself.” Li Xiaoxiao didn’t like life there and the faces of those people.

“Here, at least I can see my own value. Hu can help you take care of your children. Everyone here is very welcoming. I prefer life here. Old Shen said that when he retires in the future, he will live here in Fucheng. It’s too cold in Beijing.”

Li Xiaoxiao had discussed it with Shen Yuanyi.

"But when the child is older and goes to school in Beijing, I can go with him then." Li Xiaoxiao genuinely loves Shen Qiaoyue's child and Liu Xinlan's child.

Shen Qiaoyue was truly moved. Despite having no blood relation, the family treated her like their own child because of a promise made in their youth and the child her husband had adopted.

"Auntie, thank you so much." Shen Qiaoyue looked down at Danian and Xiaonian and said, "When you grow up, remember to visit your auntie often, okay?"

“I answered that when I grow up, I will buy my auntie pretty dresses and delicious candies.” Xiao Nian was the first to nod in response, and then walked up to Li Xiaoxiao, hugged Li Xiaoxiao’s leg and said.

"And me... chicken leg, for Grandma." Xiangxiang said to Li Xiaoxiao without showing any weakness.

Li Xiaoxiao looked at the children, and she was already content just to watch them grow up.

"I will protect Auntie, I will take care of Auntie," Da Nian said earnestly to Li Xiaoxiao.

He is the eldest brother, and he has to shoulder the responsibilities of an older brother.

Li Xiaoxiao nodded and said, "You're such a good child. Auntie will wait for you, okay?"

The children's affirmation proves that they love her as their grandmother.

Li Xiaoxiao coaxed the three children to sleep.

Shen Qiaoyue quickly finished making the clothes she had made for the children, since she couldn't sleep tonight anyway.

In the early hours of the morning, Shen Qiao checked the time and realized she could make breakfast for Jiang Jinyao.

Put the slaughtered chicken into the pot to make chicken soup. Once the chicken soup is ready, ladle it out and use it to make porridge.

When the pregnant woman first started out, she couldn't eat anything too hard, so Shen Qiaoyue cooked her some porridge.

It was already three or four o'clock when it was cooked.

Liu Xinlan returned from the hospital, standing at the kitchen door with dark circles under her eyes.

Shen Qiaoyue was startled the moment she turned around.

"What are you doing? Don't just stand there like that, you're scaring me to death!" Shen Qiaoyue's heart pounded in fright.

Liu Xinlan yawned and said, "There's nothing wrong at the hospital, so I came over to check on how the cooking is going."

"It's almost done. Just simmer it for a bit longer and it'll be ready. Would you like some chicken soup? I'll get you a bowl." Shen Qiaoyue asked Liu Xinlan.

Smelling the aroma of chicken soup, Liu Xinlan's stomach was indeed growling with hunger. She nodded and said, "Okay, have a bowl."

Shen Qiaoyue served Liu Xinlan a bowl of chicken soup and also prepared steamed buns, which she then brought to the living room.

After Liu Xinlan finished her late-night snack, she took the food to Jiang Jinyao.

Lu Yang, the mother-in-law, stayed by Jiang Jinyao's side all night. Shen Qiaoyue said that she would bring food over later and told her not to worry about anything, but to just stay at the hospital and take care of Jiang Jinyao. In addition, An Lude was not very good at taking care of her, so she stayed by Jiang Jinyao's side without leaving her for a moment.

After Jiang Jinyao successfully urinated and was able to eat, Liu Xinlan brought over the chicken soup porridge that Shen Qiaoyue had cooked, along with a portion for An Lude and Lu Yang as well.

The family hadn't eaten anything since the afternoon, and after such a long time, they must be starving.

Xu Miaoya and Liu Xinlan were on the night shift. When Liu Xinlan returned to her office, she sat down and sighed.

"Are you tired?" Xu Miaoya was originally a doctor, but she only resumed work after giving birth. Most of the doctors in the hospital went to Beijing to study, and there is a severe shortage of doctors now.

"It's not that I'm tired, it's that I feel there are more and more nurses and very few doctors, and there are also many doctors who die suddenly every year!" Liu Xinlan felt helpless. "I have a daughter. You know, I have to work night shifts for half a month, and there are so few doctors in the hospital. Sometimes I'm scared. What will happen to my daughter if I'm not here one day!"

“What can we do? Nurses are better off; it’s much easier for them to get a job than doctors. But doctors are different. They need to go through training and multiple levels of assessment before they can start working. Right now, even schools aren’t open, so where are we going to send doctors to hospitals?” Xu Miaoya sighed helplessly and said, “I used to be a doctor in Haishi. Later, I was implicated and sent to the countryside. After I got pregnant, my brother and sister-in-law had an accident, so I had no choice but to go with Feng He to the army.”
