"Is this Commander He Ping single?" Shen Qiaoyue asked again.
"Of course! If they had boyfriends, I'd let them date. Your parents would be furious with me!" Shen Yuanyi tapped Shen Qiaoyue on the head. "Have you become stupid from being pregnant?"
"You hit me on the head again! I'm not a child anymore!" Shen Qiaoyue rubbed the spot where she had been hit and angrily complained to Shen Yuanyi.
“In your uncle’s eyes, you are all children!” Shen Yuanyi added.
Xu Qianli came out of the kitchen and saw them chatting together. Noticing Shen Yuanyi, he said, "Grandpa, you're here too. Quickly wash your hands and eat."
This was the first time Shen Qiaoyue had ever seen Xu Qianli speak to her second uncle like that.
"Come on, let's go inside and eat." Shen Yuanyi pulled Xu Xiaosi and Liu Jiansheng to the bathroom tap to wash their hands.
Shen Qiaoyue went into the kitchen to take a look.
Lu Chen was carrying out a large basin of vegetables.
Shen Qiaoyu also brought out the kitchen table.
Otherwise, it would be too cramped for several people to sit at one small table, so we simply moved the kitchen table to the living room and put two tables together to eat.
After washing her hands, Shen Qiaoyue went to the living room.
Watching Liu Xinlan and the three men busily bringing out the food.
Shen Qiaoyue and Qian Luoshui were distributing chopsticks and serving rice to everyone.
Shen Yuanyi pulled the two children in and sat them down.
After finishing their work, everyone sat down to eat together.
Shen Qiaoyue was delighted to receive a bowl of longevity noodles. Looking at the longevity noodles, there were a few green vegetables and a poached egg.
"Today is Qiaoyue's birthday, would you like to say a few words?" Shen Yuanyi, as the elder, spoke first.
Under everyone's gaze, Shen Qiaoyue thought for a moment and said, "I wish myself a happy, peaceful and prosperous new year, and I wish everyone good health and happiness."
"Then let's get started," Shen Yuanyi said again.
Shen Yuanyi placed a chicken leg on the birthday celebrant's plate and wished him good health, saying, "You must eat well and gain some weight so that the baby in your belly doesn't go hungry."
"Thank you, Uncle." Shen Qiaoyue smiled in response to Shen Yuanyi's words of advice and concern.
While eating, everyone suddenly fell silent again.
Shen Qiaoyu picked up a shrimp for Qian Luoshui and even peeled the shell for her.
Shen Yuanyi ate a few bites, then put some food on Xu Xiaosi's plate, and didn't forget to put some on Liu Jiansheng's plate as well.
The two children would chat while eating, and Shen Yuanyi would occasionally chime in to talk to them.
"Qiao Yu!" Shen Yuanyi asked Shen Qiao Yu again.
"Second Uncle, I'm here." Shen Qiaoyu nervously put down her chopsticks and replied to Shen Yuanyi.
Shen Yuanyi glanced at him and waved his hand.
He was being told not to be so nervous.
Shen Qiaoyue didn't speak, presumably because she had something to say to Shen Qiaoyu.
“Liu Mingchang is Jiansheng’s father. He has been on secondment for more than a year. He was originally from the Lu Chen Regiment Headquarters. Now An Lude from the Lu Chen Regiment Headquarters has been promoted. When Liu Mingchang returns, we will send him to your division.” Shen Yuanyi said briefly.
As Liu Jiansheng listened to Grandpa Shen's words and looked at everyone, he wondered if he had misheard.
“Yes, Second Uncle,” Shen Qiaoyu replied.
Shen Yuanyi looked down at Liu Jiansheng and said, "Jiansheng, your father is coming back. Aren't you happy?"
"Really?" Liu Jiansheng doubted that he had misheard and asked to confirm uncertainly.
Shen Yuanyi said with a smile, "Of course, your father is already on his way back and will arrive the day after tomorrow. You can go with Uncle Shen Qiaoyu to pick him up then."
"Grandpa Shen, thank you for letting my dad come back." Liu Jiansheng happily thanked Shen Yuanyi.
Shen Yuanyi looked at Liu Jiansheng and said, "Eat well. When your father comes back, tell him that you've recently become a little man."
"Yes, yes, I will, Grandpa Shen." Liu Jiansheng had a great appetite when he heard that his father was coming back.
The child quieted down.
Shen Yuanyi looked at Liu Xinlan and Xu Qianli and asked, "You two have been married for a while now, have you made any plans for having children?"
“Uncle Shen, we are still working on the child’s situation,” Liu Xinlan replied reservedly.
"Old man, you still worry about this?" Xu Qianli couldn't help but complain.
Shen Yuanyi rolled his eyes at Xu Qianli.
“Xinlan, if you don’t mind, call me Dad. I’ve corrupted Xu Qianli, so don’t follow his example.” Shen Yuanyi both loved and hated Xu Qianli.
After all, he raised the child, and the child has always been registered as his child.
"Of course I don't mind, Dad." Liu Xinlan didn't feel awkward at all. Xu Qianli had told her that Shen Yuanyi had raised her, and she couldn't forget that kindness.
When Shen Yuanyi heard Liu Xinlan call him "Dad," he nodded in satisfaction.
After eating a couple of bites of rice, he glanced at Xu Qianli.
"Grandpa, Xinlan and I have discussed it, and any children we have will take your surname." Xu Qianli seemed to understand what Shen Yuanyi was about to say, and he spoke first.
Shen Qiaoyue, Lu Chen, Shen Qiaoyu, and Qian Luoshui all looked at Xu Qianli, and then at Shen Yuanyi.
A moment of silence!
Shen Yuanyi was surprised and paused in his chopsticks. After a moment, he asked, "Don't you feel uncomfortable? You're the only child who survived in the Xu family. How will you explain it if you take my surname?"
"It's already a miracle that we survived. Doesn't it matter whose surname the child takes?" Xu Qianli didn't care about that. "Letting the child take the surname Shen is different. Having a grandfather with such prestige will make us look good."
