Feeling embarrassed by the forceful offer, Shen Qiaoyue accepted it.
"How much is this? Can I pay you?" Shen Qiaoyue asked, holding the walnut pastry and reaching into her pocket for money.
"Hey!" Ye Hualan looked at Shen Qiaoyue, "You're being too polite by offering money. Haven't I eaten enough of your food before?"
"Alright, thank you all, I'll head back now." Shen Qiaoyue felt embarrassed to refuse any longer, so she went back first.
Chu Lin nodded.
Ye Hualan waved her hand.
"Chu Lin, have you gone back to see your grandparents?" Ye Hualan asked Chu Lin.
Chu Lin shook his head.
"I just got off the train and thought I'd come see you first. I bought some food to bring to you before I go back to check on them." Chu Lin also considered the distance; the train station was very close, so he came to see Ye Hualan first.
"Do you have any money on you?" Ye Hualan knew that Chu Lin was currently studying and didn't know how much stipend he received each month.
Chu Lin nodded and said, "Yes, sister. I bought you a pair of old cloth shoes, your size, and a scarf. You can take all the food back with you."
"I don't lack anything. You should take care of yourself and stop thinking about me." Ye Hualan was satisfied with Chu Lin's concern. "You are going through a very difficult time right now. Don't spend so much money. Save it carefully. When you get a job, you can use this money to get married."
Chu Lin nodded without saying a word.
Chu Lin glanced at the family compound a few times, then looked at Ye Hualan and asked casually, feigning curiosity, "Sister, those two girls looked like sisters. Are they new family members who just moved into the compound?"
