"After leaving, I don't know when we will meet again. Brother Ji is a very nice person." Ning Qingyuan murmured as he looked at the national highway where there was no trace of the car.
He just sighed like this, and after looking away, he didn't feel any sadness or grief after the separation, and he felt relieved in his heart.
Finally, I sent him away. If I hadn't left, my sister would have been taken away by him.
Now he will not allow this to happen for the time being.
Ning Xiyue felt a little sad because of the atmosphere of separation, but she was not really very sad. It was not like they had stopped contacting each other. Writing letters was quite nice. It was good for them to be busy with their own careers. There was no need to stick together all the time.
She's not the type of person who needs to be with someone all the time.
She also knew that the college entrance examination was not far away. When the population could move freely, she could go wherever she wanted. She could go to see someone in the morning and go back in the afternoon, or go to see someone the next day and go back the next day. No one would bother her.
Ning Xiyue rode on the bicycle parked on the side of the road: "Brother, let's go back."
"Okay, let's go back. It's boring to wander around town."
Ning Qingyuan also got on a bicycle. The two siblings pedaled, started their bikes, left the town, and rode towards the path of Daliu Team.
Halfway through the journey, Ning Qingyuan suddenly called out, "Sister, I just saw a hare in the woods over there. It ran to that tree and disappeared. That should be its nest. Should we go check it out and catch it so we can have roasted rabbit for dinner tonight?"
Ning Xiyue looked in the direction he pointed, and on a whim, she wanted to eat roasted rabbit, so she nodded happily: "I think it's okay, let's go and see if we can catch it, and then we can make our secret roasted whole rabbit."
The two siblings did what they said, turned the handlebars of their bicycles and headed towards the slope on the left.
Ning Qingyuan parked his bike under a big tree, picked up a stick from the ground, and pulled the grass nearby: "Little sister, this is the tree I saw it run into."
"Let's go and take a look."
Ning Xiyue saw the rabbit on the ground and was sure that the place under the tree was the entrance to one of the rabbit's nests.
She also parked the car, got a wooden stick in her hand, and moved separately to look for other rabbit holes nearby.
A cunning rabbit has three burrows, so maybe the rabbit went out through another burrow.
I didn't find the rabbit hole, but I saw some morels on the ground. They were growing in a small area in front of me. I walked a few steps to the left and saw some more on the slope over there. I walked a few steps to the right and saw that there were quite a few growing here too.
There are two of them, one here and one there, and they look very nice, like the best morels.
Ning Xiyue didn't care about the rabbit when she saw the field of morels. She ran a few steps, turned a corner, and saw her second brother, and waved her hands at him excitedly.
"Brother, come quickly, I found a nest of morels. Here's a patch. Come pick some and bring your backpack to fill them."
"Here I come."
Ning Qingyuan didn't care about the rabbit hole for the time being. When he heard his sister's words, he happily pushed his bicycle and ran over quickly with a backpack on his back.
When I saw the morels on the ground, I couldn't help but exclaim a few times.
"This is too much. We can eat fresh mushrooms tonight. We just stuffed the old dried mushrooms to Brother Ji, and when we turned around, we found fresh mushrooms. Haha, isn't this what they call out with the old, in with the new."
"Brother, hurry up and pick some mushrooms. There are still a lot of them here. Take them all back. If we can't finish them, we can dry them and send some back to our parents so they can taste the fresh mushrooms this year."
Ning Xiyue held a pointed small wooden stick in her hand as a tool. She used it to pry the mushrooms that could not be pulled out. With the help of the stick, she picked them very quickly. There was a small pile of picked morels at her feet. They were all quite big. She could only pick two with one hand. There were still many morels growing steadily in the ground that had not been picked yet.
Looking up at the field of mushrooms, Ning Xiyue couldn't stop smiling. Her smile was brighter than the blooming flowers. All the sadness of parting disappeared without a trace, and she completely forgot about Ji Yanming by the Daming Lake.
"We're so lucky, brother! Thanks to you for catching the rabbit, otherwise we would have missed this patch of morels today."
"This piece is quite large. I think my parents can eat it all."
Ning Qingyuan answered with a smile while picking a few large leaves to pad under the backpack. Then he put the mushrooms picked by Ning Xiyue into the backpack and pried them gently with a wooden stick.
The two of them picked the fruits much faster together. After they finished picking all the fruits, they filled half of the backpack, which probably weighed about five or six pounds.
Ning Xiyue looked at the morels in the basket and thought about the chickens in the pen: "It would be great if our chickens grew up. Morel chicken soup would be delicious."
Ning Qingyuan thought of the delicious chicken soup and swallowed his saliva, suggesting:
"Why don't we kill one, the biggest chicken? It weighs about two pounds. I found an egg in the chicken coop yesterday. The chickens that have started laying eggs should be edible."
Ning Xiyue stepped on a sharp stone and hurt her foot. She kicked the stone while thinking about what her second brother said.
With a "puff" sound, the stone was kicked out and fell into the grass.
"Gugu—"
“Puff puff—”
After two cooing sounds, there was a fluttering sound in the grass.
Ning Xiyue and Ning Qingyuan looked over when they heard the sound.
A pheasant with beautiful feathers, or a proud rooster, flapped its wings crookedly and flew out from a hillside with thick thatch not far ahead, which was where the stone under Ning Xiyue's feet flew over and landed. It flew over their heads and tried to fly to the opposite hillside.
However, the sharp end of the stone that Ning Xiyue flew over hit the pheasant's wings. Once the wings were injured, the pheasant could not fly high or fast, and it flew staggeringly like a drunk and could not fly straight.
