To prepare for the Children's Day performance, Lu Yiming came home an hour later from school every day. Fortunately, the weather was getting warmer and the days were longer, so Su Yan would deliberately start cooking half an hour later to wait for the children to eat together.
On Children's Day, Lu Yiming woke up at 6:30, washed his face and brushed his teeth, quickly changed into his performance clothes and white running shoes, and rushed out of the house with two eggs.
"Mom, I have to hurry over to put on my makeup. You have to bring your brothers and sisters to see my show. It starts at 8:30."
"I see. We'll walk over slowly after breakfast."
The bicycle at home broke down and was difficult to ride after being repaired several times. In addition, there were so many children at home that it couldn't fit so many people on the bicycle. Su Yan planned to walk there with Lu Ting and the children.
After breakfast, Su Yan and her family went downstairs and walked towards the farm. Halfway there, they ran into her mother-in-law Hua Min and Lu Yiwei.
"Mom, where are you going?"
"Today is Children's Day. Yiming and Lanlan said that there is a performance at their school and invited me to watch it."
Su Yan looked at Lu Yiwei in her mother-in-law's arms. The little one was thirteen months old and could only walk with the help of something. She would cry when she saw strangers.
Their triplets are eight months older than Lu Yiwei and will not be two years old until August 20. When the three little ones saw their grandmother holding their younger sister, they also reached out to Su Yan and Lu Ting to hold them.
Su Yan had originally wanted to give her child some exercise; what was wrong with a little extra walking for her almost two-year-old? But seeing her daughter pouting and about to cry, she pulled the baby carrier out of her bag, threw Huanle and Lele to Lu Ting, and carried Zhuzhu herself as they hurried to the farm primary school.
When we got to the school, we found that each parent was only given one stool. Hua Min came to watch the show on behalf of Lu Yilan. Lu Ting gave the stool to Su Yan and stood on one side holding his little girl. Su Yan sat on the stool hugging her two sons.
Lu Yiming is in the second grade, and he starts in the second grade after the first grade performance, so they watch Lu Yilan's performance first.
What they were dancing to was actually "Wahaha". A group of boys and girls with their faces painted like monkey butts were holding hands and spinning in circles, singing and dancing.
If you don't look carefully, you can't tell who is who. Lu Yian and Lu Yining saw everyone clapping and so they followed suit foolishly.
When Lu Yiming's class performed the chorus, Su Yan recognized her big, silly guy at a glance. They were supposed to be performing a chorus, but why was he conducting with a stick?
Lu Yining recognized his brother at a glance and said to Su Yan, "Mom, my brother has become a gorilla. Is he going to beat the little monkey with the stick?"
"That's a baton. Your brother is neither a gorilla nor a monkey. He's directing the students to sing."
After Su Yan finished speaking, she glanced at Lu Ting. There was a gap between ideal and reality. How could her son, who had a good voice and was a tenor, become a conductor?
After the chorus ended, their class's group dance started again, and this time Su Yan felt a little numb on her scalp.
Her son looked like a student of four or five years old. His female partner was only shoulder-high, which looked weird no matter how you looked at her.
In fact, the female classmates were all a centimeter or two taller than the male classmates, so they looked about the same height. Only her son stood out from the crowd, looking weird no matter how you looked at him. How did the teacher choose him? Was it because he was physically flexible?
After the Children's Day performance, Su Yan and Lu Ting took their child home. Looking at the Three Good Students certificate in her son's hand, Su Yan asked, "Is this the midterm exam certificate?"
"Well, there are a total of six students in our class who were named Three Good Students."
"Yiming, Mom has a question. Why did your teacher choose you to dance? You're the only male student among so many people who's taller than them all."
"That's because the teacher knew my dad was the troupe leader and that our family had enough money to buy costumes. Some of my classmates' parents didn't want their children to buy costumes, so the teacher naturally didn't let them go.
The teacher said our school is going to form a Little Lark Choir and asked me if I would like to join the choir so we can perform at the Great Hall of the People.
"The teacher asked you to join the choir, but he won't ask you to be the conductor, right?"
"The teacher asked me to lead the singing."
"Tell me, what are your conditions?"
"My music teacher said I could go to her house on Sundays for extra lessons. She taught me to sing."
Of course Su Yan knew what tutoring meant, and teachers had to pay money if they accepted students.
Su Yan asked: "Lu Yiming, what do you want to learn?"
"Mom, I don't want to learn singing or perform. I want to learn the harmonica and accordion."
"Who did you learn from?"
"My fifth-grade music teacher plays the harmonica, accordion, and erhu. I want to learn from him."
Su Yan felt that since her son wanted to learn on his own initiative, she must find a way to send him to learn. If he couldn't go to the Youth Palace for the time being, she would send him to the music teacher's home to learn.
Anyway, he could spend half a day on Saturday doing homework and reviewing, and he could have a day on Sunday to learn an art, which was better than him running around everywhere. Her family had a harmonica, and accordions were available at department stores, and they didn't cost much.
Su Yan looked at Lu Ting and asked, "What do you think?"
"Since he wants to learn, I'll go find the music teacher and see if he's willing to take Yiming in. Since he wants to learn the accordion, I think we should just let him learn calligraphy as well. He should really practice his dog-crawling handwriting."
"Which teacher are you going to send him to learn calligraphy?"
"Principal Liu, I'll bring him two bottles of good wine and ask him to accept Yiming as his apprentice."
Lu Yiming was completely overwhelmed. His handwriting was considered okay in the class, but his father actually said that his handwriting was awful. He hated practicing calligraphy the most. Oh my God, someone come and save him.
Lu Yiming wanted to retort, but Lu Ting glared at him, and he immediately kept quiet. In the afternoon, Lu Ting took the gift Su Yan had prepared to the music teacher and Principal Liu's house, and took him to learn from them.
When the music teacher and Principal Liu saw Lu Ting personally bring the child to their home, they immediately agreed to learn music on Sunday morning and calligraphy in the afternoon.
To support Lu Yiming's studies, Lu Ting made a special trip to the department store and bought him an accordion, a new harmonica, and a complete set of writing brushes, inkstones, and paper. He also bought some toys and snacks for the triplets.
Su Yan looked at the small skirt in her hand and asked, "Zhuzhu already has many skirts, why did you buy her another one?"
"I saw a little girl trying on this skirt in the department store, and I think it would look even better on our daughter."
"How much is this dress?"
"18 yuan."
"Oh my god, why is it so expensive? I can make one myself for only three or five dollars. Why are you only buying a skirt for Zhuzhu and being so happy?"
"They have toys. The salesperson said this skirt is from Hong Kong. Look, isn't it better than ordinary skirts?"
Every year, live pigs, poultry, vegetables and fish are shipped to the port city from China, so it is normal to see some imported clothing in the foreign trade counters of department stores.
Su Yan looked at the white little princess gauze skirt. It did look like imported goods. It was pretty, but it was not as comfortable as a pure cotton skirt.
The price is not affordable at all. A children's skirt costs 18 yuan. If it were winter clothes, it would be fine, but this is summer clothes.
The child’s father is so partial that he dares to buy such an expensive skirt.
