Chapter 10-10- Escape
As the snake king's body sank into the water and disappeared, Yvette let out a long breath, feeling as if a huge stone in her heart had finally fallen to the ground.
It is true that killing the snake king will not drop any equipment, but she has always regarded it as the biggest obstacle to leaving Crater Lake.
Now that the obstacles were gone, her path to departure suddenly became smooth.
Moreover, decades ago, her magic pressure reached the rated standard for charging the magic device, and she repaired a still usable flying board from the rubble on the ground.
So if she wanted, she could even set off now and leave this cage in the lake that had trapped her for nearly 200 years.
but……
After thinking about it, Yvette turned back into the facility.
On the one hand, it was because she wanted to summarize the gains from this operation and improve Thunder's Fury.
On the other hand, since you can leave at any time, why rush?
A little more preparation would be helpful!
…
In the decades since the giant snake's fall, the lake centered around the ruined platform has become noticeably quieter. Whenever Yvette appears in the sunlight, whether meditating or practicing magic, the aberrant creatures in the shallows will tactfully retreat.
These low-intelligence creatures seemed to have determined by some primitive instinct that the slender figure had replaced the giant snake and become the new king here.
Of course, occasionally, there will be challengers.
Compared with ordinary deformed creatures, these challengers have much less exposed flesh and blood on their bodies, and they also have some unique attack organs, such as chitinous shells or electric tentacles, which allow people to fully experience the biodiversity.
But for Yvette, it was all a matter of Thunder's Wrath.
——The current improved version of Thunderfury has reduced its mana consumption from 240 points to 100 points, but its power has been retained at 60%. It is an optimization and upgrade that she is quite proud of.
It is worth mentioning that in recent times, her magic power has approached the 500-point mark.
In the era of origin civilization, the energy storage core used by a two-meter-tall fully automatic magic robot was only of this order of magnitude.
So from this point of view, after more than two hundred years of solitary practice, Yvette's magic power can be said to be quite abundant, and her most powerful original technique, "Thunder's Fury", is indeed of military-grade specifications.
"With my current combat power, I'd be considered a master before the apocalypse. Supplies and weapons will definitely be in short supply during the apocalypse... Well, this seems to indicate that once I escape from Five Finger Mountain, I'll immediately become a top force for humanity..."
With such a small expectation, Yvette practiced with greater motivation, as if she had already seen the great scene of herself descending like a god from the sky, saving the collapsing building, turning the tide, and then being admired by thousands of people and pursued by beautiful women.
Until that day finally arrived.
…
On a misty morning, Yvette stood in front of the closed metal door leading to the negative eleventh floor. She stood silently for a long time, then shook her head helplessly.
After breaking through the 500-point magic point mark last night, she decided to set off. She didn't have any luggage to take with her, nor did she have anything special to miss. The only regret she had was that before leaving, she still couldn't open the solid alloy door made of unknown material.
"Forget it, it's up to you whether you want to open it or not."
Throwing down these words, Yvette walked up the stairs. The sound of her heels on the metal steps echoed layer by layer in the empty shaft.
Over the course of more than two hundred years, she had walked the ruins of the Abyss Base countless times, as if every bolt was etched into her memory. Though she had once considered it a boundless prison, she sometimes felt it was, at best, a safe haven, offering a moment of peace and tranquility in a post-apocalyptic world rife with distorted monsters.
And now, she is finally going to put an end to this long period of imprisonment with her own hands.
…
Standing on the water platform, Yvette activated the flying board.
As a magical vehicle with a simple structure, its energy storage panel is surprisingly powerful. It can store 100 points of magic power and support a range of about 50 kilometers.
In comparison, Yvette, who has 500 magic points, can only fly one kilometer no matter how much she uses her proud "Wind Control". The gap is immediately apparent.
However, Yvette did not find it strange, because she knew very well that as one of the technological crystallizations of the origin civilization, this thing may look ordinary, but in fact there are at least a million runes in the magic circuit.
Comparing the effect of Wind Rider with this thing is like challenging a quantum computer with an abacus.
She stretched out her hand, and a transparent handle made of magic took shape in her palm. With a slight forward tilt, the flying board immediately carried her forward, plowing a fleeting trail across the deep blue water.
Wherever it passed, the deformed creatures in the lake and shallow waters retreated in panic, making way for this visitor from the air.
So, in less than three minutes, she flew across this less than three kilometers of water and arrived in front of the smooth rock wall that she had seen when she first arrived more than two hundred years ago.
Due to the height restriction, the flying board couldn't be used here. Yvette lightly leaped onto a ledge and tucked the flying board back to her waist. A pale blue current enveloped her, carrying her up the rock face.
When my fingertips finally touched the highest point of the crater, the whole world suddenly opened up before my eyes.
The azure sea merged with the clouds at the horizon. The vine-wrapped skyscrapers on the coastline merged seamlessly with the forest, resembling towering trees. Nearby, on the foothills, the trees swayed, their emerald waves whipped by the mountain breeze.
She subconsciously turned her head to look back in the direction she had come from. From this perspective, the once vast crater lake was now just a clear pool of water, and the metal platform in the center was as small as a toy floating in a bathtub.
This is the world after the apocalypse... She thought, and then stood here quietly for a long time, until the strong wind from the top of the mountain blew her silver hair, and it sparkled with rainbow light in the sunlight.
…
What to do after escaping the predicament?
Two hundred years ago, Yvette had pondered this question, but she couldn't come up with an answer. After all, she had no idea what she would see upon escaping. A desolate wasteland, a purgatory filled with aberrations?
Could it be that there are human survivors gathered together, fighting to survive and rebuild their homes, blowing the hymn of courage?
At present, the answer is no.
…
Following a road where traces of its original form could still be seen, Yvette walked into the capital of Ish Island, "Ish City".
Compared to the other two human cities on the island that had turned into ruins, the scenery here was much more magnificent. After all, it was the location of an important branch of Black Tower Medicine. Even though it was dozens of kilometers away, she could still see the dark tower that reached into the sky in the city center from afar.
It is painted with a lush green color, like an ancient sword wrapped with branches. Even though the sword's owner has been dead for many years, it still stands tall, pointing straight to the sky.
This is humanity's sword, and also the tombstone of human civilization... Yvette looked at the ruins before her, as if she had stepped through time and witnessed the former prosperity and glory of Ish City - with the Black Tower as its center, surrounded by skyscrapers, holographic advertisements streaming on the glass curtain walls, aircraft flying through like swarms of bees, and neon lights dyeing the night sky into a dream. Now, all of this has vanished into thin air.
Jumping over a clear underground river formed by a collapsed sewer and passing through streets full of wisteria flowers, Yvette walked through the streets like a ghost.
A butterfly landed on her shoulder and flew away, a fawn looked up warily from the collapsed window, and occasionally a distorted creature pounced from the shadows, only to be reduced to charcoal in a dance of flames.
In this way, she strolled through countless dangerous streets and arrived at the city center. She did not find any smoke, footprints or any signs of human activity along the way.
Then, in the square, she looked up at the mottled exterior of the black tower, and she finally confirmed one thing, that is, at least on this island, there would not be another living human being except her.
In fact, even if we put aside Ish Island and turn our attention to the three main continents on the Origin Star, namely "Black Tide Continent", "Emerald Continent" and "Silver Mirror Continent", it is probably difficult to find any other survivors.
Otherwise, it would be impossible to explain why, with human technology and wisdom, we have not been able to rebuild our civilization in nearly six hundred years.
After this realization struck her, she sighed softly. As a visitor from another world, she had imagined that once she emerged from her cage, she would find a brand new world, where she could see all kinds of people and experience completely different customs and cultures. However, she had never imagined that she would still be accompanied by only loneliness on this long journey, until billions of years passed, until the end of the morning star.
In that case...
Then!
Let’s plant some crops first?
