Chapter 23-23- Fight
The dusk was bathed in rusty metallic reflections, and the distant sea level melted the setting sun into a golden hue. As soon as Rosalyn's boots touched the cracked pavement, the taxi lifted off behind her, startling a few seabirds that were pecking at the garbage.
Soon her eyes fell on the garbage dump next to the town, and she saw abandoned magical equipment piled up into continuous mountains, like a huge mechanical cemetery.
According to the townspeople, many years ago, this place was one of the most prosperous areas on Ish Island and the only port on Ish Island.
However, with the construction of the new port in the Tower District and the neighboring Gray Harbor City, the port in the Blackwater District gradually declined and was finally completely abandoned during the Silent War 20 years ago.
Since this was not her first time here, Rosalyn lifted her skirt and skillfully moved through the mountains of metal garbage, quickly finding an open space hidden among the "mountains".
Sure enough, Hans and Mary were there, sitting on a metal sheet nearby, seemingly waiting for something.
"Hi~ Good afternoon~"
"Hey, Rosalyn, why are you here?" Hans looked over in surprise.
"It must be because you just hung up the phone with Mom. Mom has the location." Mary said from the side.
Like Rosalyn, Hans and Mary are 12 and 11 years old respectively, both of them are standard junior high school students. Hans is a boy with medium-length brown hair and looks somewhat gentle, while Mary is a girl with red curly hair and wears a pair of round glasses. Although she is not as beautiful as Rosalyn, she also has an excellent temperament.
"Aunt Susan is very worried about you...but why did you come here suddenly without saying a word? I don't even know..." Rosalyn asked. She seemed calm, but the subtext was very obvious, which was - why didn't you invite me to come out and play?
"Today... there are special circumstances. I have a fight with someone, so I'm afraid of getting you involved..." Hans said in a low voice.
"A fight?"
"Here's what happened," Mary explained. "My brother and I have a few good friends at school. We all come from Blackwater District to study at Black Tower Middle School, and we often help each other. One of them is called Tang Ji, and he's always being bullied by a guy in his class named Brielle. My brother happened to see them doing this recently and stopped them, but because the teacher showed up quickly, a fight didn't break out..."
"Originally, this was Brielle's fault. He always discriminated against students from the Blackwater District. But Brielle's father is a senior executive at Black Tower Pharmaceuticals, and the teachers refused to take care of the matter. Then he challenged my brother to a fight this weekend..."
"I see." Rosalyn nodded. This matter was not complicated. It could even be said to be just a minor quarrel between junior high school students.
But it's also true, given that Heita Middle School is located in the Ta District, a district specifically catering to Heita Pharmaceutical employees. Heita Middle School is also an elite school. On one side are children from the slums, on the other, the children of executives. Even when the executives' children make obvious mistakes, the teachers can only smooth things over, ultimately leading to this kind of off-campus solution.
In the teacher's words, this is a class conflict... Rosalyn felt a sense of understanding in her heart.
"Where's Tang Ji?" Looking around, Rosalyn suddenly thought that there seemed to be someone involved in this matter who had not appeared.
"He's just a coward. He doesn't dare to come even though his brother is helping him." Mary said with a pout.
"No, Tang Ji said that his family doesn't allow him to come." Hans shook his head, and a firm look appeared on his gentle face. "I believe he didn't lie to me."
Mary opened her mouth but said nothing. In this respect, she could understand Tang Ji. After all, her parents worked so hard to support her and Hans to attend Black Tower Middle School, to enter Black Tower Medicine in the future, to rise to prominence, to stand at the top of the Black Tower Building, to reach the pinnacle of Ish City. Tang Ji's parents must have felt the same way.
At the same time, for children of this age, these great expectations will turn into mental pressure, making them gradually become timid and afraid of causing trouble for their parents.
The three of them waited here for a while. After about ten minutes, a somewhat contemptuous voice sounded from above not far away: "Oh, you really dare to come here, poor bastard."
Rosalyn looked up and saw a middle school-aged boy standing on a hoverboard, looking down at everyone with a look of contempt.
Behind him were two skinny boys who looked like henchmen, and a floating mechanical creature. The creature consisted of only its upper body, with rune circles radiating across its cross-section, seemingly some kind of intelligent bodyguard.
"Who's afraid of who? Don't forget, my Runeology score is even higher than yours." Hans sneered.
Runeology, something that ordinary people can only learn after entering the legendary university stage, is the beginning of the path to becoming a mage.
But it is completely different for Heita Middle School. Starting from the second grade, these junior high school students, most of whom are children of company employees, have the opportunity to come into contact with it. They only need to buy a discounted "Active Rune Set" to sign up.
So, Hans was like this, and Mary would be like this when she reached second grade. Even the Active Rune Set was extremely expensive, with the cheapest costing 50,000. One shot increased magic power by 10 points, but the effect would gradually decrease.
"Runes are runes, and actual combat is actual combat...Poor guy, you know nothing about my fists." Standing on the skateboard, sliding down the garbage mountain, Brielle jumped lightly to the ground.
His gaze swept from Hans and Mary, finally settling on the unfamiliar blonde girl. He asked coldly, "Who are you? Which school are you from? Were you hired by this poor idiot to keep things simple?"
He had never seen Rosaline's temperament in anyone in the Blackwater District. Her every move, every posture, every sitting and every standing posture had a natural elegance, which made him a little suspicious.
"My name is Rosalyn, and I'm Hans' friend." Rosalyn nodded slightly. "I won't interfere in this matter, but the premise is that the conflict between you two doesn't go too far."
"You stinky woman, you're so arrogant! Who do you think you are? You actually think you have the right to meddle in the boss's affairs!"
"I'll let the boss teach this kid a lesson soon. Let her watch carefully!"
The two followers behind Brielle immediately started shouting.
Brielle smiled at the shouting of the two followers, and seemed to enjoy the feeling of having a mouthpiece.
He didn't say anything else, but turned to look at Hans: "What are the rules for a one-on-one duel here?"
"It's just a fight, what are the rules?" Hans said disdainfully. "You can't use any tools other than the magic terminal, period."
"And here's another bet. The loser has to crawl and bark like a dog in public in the school courtyard, otherwise it's no fun. You wouldn't dare, would you?"
"You think I'm scared?"
So, after the bet was made, the other onlookers were asked to disperse, and in the open space between the garbage mountains, Hans and Brielle were about to engage in a tense wizard battle.
Rosalin was also very nervous and concerned, but in addition to worrying about Hans, it was mainly because this was the first time she saw a wizard other than her teacher take action. It could give her, a novice wizard who had been practicing for two years, a good reference, allowing her to quickly grasp her level among her peers.
