Chapter 50-50- Holy Temple
After finishing his tea, Bingyu seemed to have remembered his original purpose and asked to borrow the temple here to recharge his motorcycle.
The Great Elder readily agreed and immediately stood up to lead the way. Yvette had long been curious about the mysterious temple, so she naturally followed behind and came to another place in the Puppet Town together.
This time it’s not a container apartment, but a cathedral left over from a period of early civilization in the town.
The walls were rough and mottled, partially collapsed, and full of signs of erosion from time. However, the overall framework, meticulously maintained by the puppets, remained remarkably strong. The grass and trees surrounding the church were meticulously trimmed, and even the iconic obsidian bricks at the entrance were polished to a glossy black, faintly reflecting the sunlight.
Walking into the church, the empty main hall is exceptionally quiet. Light and shadow filter through the mostly broken stained windows, making every speck of dust sparkle.
Atop the central circular shrine, a giant pixelated cube statue stood quietly. Gazing at this iconic symbol, Yvette instantly understood the former church's place of ownership.
Temple of the Mind!
This is a well-known religion from the period of origin civilization, originating from the Silver Mirror Continent. One of its doctrines is "flesh and blood are weak, machines ascend." After the end of the world, it became a temple for mechanical puppets to worship the God of Machinery, which is very consistent in style.
However, Yvette knew very little about the religion of the Origin Civilization. She only knew that the Temple of Mind and Sky Technology had an ambiguous relationship, with the former suspected to be secretly funded by the latter. If she had the chance to enter a dream again, she might search for relevant information.
In addition to the cubic statue left in the Temple of Mind, there is also a female mechanical puppet wearing a black nun's uniform in the church. It is highly anthropomorphic, but compared to Bingyu's girlish style, this nun has a more mature temperament, and the outline of her breasts under the nun's robe is more obvious.
Although she knew that there must be a white body or metal breastplate underneath the outline, Yvette couldn't help but take a few more glances, thinking that such a highly anthropomorphic and intact mechanical puppet must not have been picked up from a garbage dump like the Great Elder. How did she come into being?
Could it be that the God of Machinery controls a puppet production line from the past, so he can create such a highly anthropomorphic new puppet?
"My two guests, this is Miss Sunflower, a nun from our temple. Miss Sunflower, these are Miss Yvette and Miss Bingyu, two guests who have come from afar. We would like to borrow the temple and ask God to charge our car."
"No problem, God of Machinery, I will help you." Miss Sunflower showed a perfect smile on her face, turned to the room in the corner, and carried out a box.
Yvette took a look and found that it was a portable metal box with a faint light on it and obvious multi-functional interfaces. It was basically a large power bank.
No wonder Bingyu said every kingdom had a temple, she thought. Besides offering various prayers to the God of Machinery, the temple's most important function should be to provide energy, right? It was like a dining hall for the mechanical puppets. Otherwise, given the scale and development of these puppet towns, they wouldn't be able to independently generate energy for survival.
But where does the temple get its energy? Is it an elemental reactor? Underground magic wire? Or some other method?
Thinking of this, an idea gradually emerged in her mind.
She wanted to stay here for a while, to observe and understand more carefully the operation of this puppet town, as well as to understand the mysterious God of Machinery.
…
After Yvette applied to stay here temporarily for a period of time, the Great Elder happily agreed, but said that he could not make the decision alone on this matter and needed to call a meeting of other kingdom members.
Bingyu also took the opportunity to make the same request, but her reason was that she wanted to explore the ruined city of Agashe not far away, and having a safe and stable Puppet Kingdom as a base was perfect. Moreover, she had already reported this matter to the gods before coming to Kuroshio Island.
Therefore, after being approved by the Kingdom Parliament, Yvette and Bingyu can both live here permanently. However, as outsiders, they cannot live in the container apartment and have to find suitable living rooms in the ruins of the town.
Of course, Yvette had no objection to this. She could live directly in the RV. Bingyu came over shyly and asked if she could live in the RV together. After being ruthlessly rejected, she had to leave in disappointment.
…
In the evening, the sky showed a transition to dark green, but had not yet completely sunk into dark blue.
Yvette was looking around in the ruined town, and then she suddenly heard the roar of an engine with a low cyclonic sound coming from far away.
She looked up and saw a large flying vehicle whizzing past in the sky, which was fragmented by the ruins of buildings and dense treetops, and then landed on a small, relatively flat open space near the temple.
She immediately walked over and saw the hatch of the vehicle open. The nun she had seen earlier was deftly carrying several energy storage tanks, gleaming with a faint blue luster, from the interior of the spacecraft and stacking them neatly at her feet. At the same time, she carefully returned several similar tanks, their surfaces dimmed and seemingly depleted of energy.
Why is it like delivering a package... Yvette walked over and said, "Let me help you."
"Thank you, Miss Yvette, but no thanks. This is my duty as a nun." Miss Sunflower declined with a smile.
Yvette nodded without saying anything else. Her eyes fell on the huge cargo ship and she found that it was printed with an embossed logo of the Sky Rift Group. The silver-white color had now turned noticeably yellow.
What a simple way of implementation. She thought that the God of Machinery, at present, should not be a god in the usual sense, at least not a true god like the one in the Glowing Continent who established a kingdom and possessed supreme power. Instead, he was more like a super AI that survived the apocalypse.
But the Great Elder said that the God of Machinery gave souls to the mechanical puppets. How did he do that?
It not only solves the origin of the soul, but also solves the problem that the mind core is difficult to serve as a carrier of the soul?
Don't open the brains of these mechanical puppets and find a normal human brain inside... Well, it's a bit too scary, but it's not impossible. However, I can observe here for a while, and there will always be a chance to verify it... Yvette made a bold guess.
By this time, the nun had already finished moving the energy storage tanks. The transport ship, surprisingly, was also a talking, non-humanoid mechanical creature. After exchanging greetings and praising the great God of Machinery together, the transport ship took off and disappeared into the distant skyline. The nun wiped the non-existent sweat from her brow, a satisfied smile on her face.
Yvette observed her smile and found that it was different from the business-like smile she had shown before. This smile was more sincere, and it seemed that she really enjoyed her duties as a nun.
"Ms. Sunflower, you seem to really like doing the work of a nun?" Yvette asked quietly.
"Yes, no one would refuse to serve God." The nun smiled and nodded.
"Can you answer me a question?" Yvette asked again.
"What's the problem?"
"Why do all the mechanical people wish they could become human?"
"have no idea."
"Don't know?" Yvette was a little surprised. She originally thought that the nun would say that it was because human civilization was so brilliant that it led to worship, or that humans were the creators and imitation was normal.
"This seems to be an instinct we are born with. If we want the answer, perhaps we can only ask the great God of Machinery." said the nun.
"Then can you ask God?" Yvette asked again.
"Well..." The nun showed an embarrassment. "God doesn't answer every question. If you encounter difficulties, you can seek help from God, but it's best not to disturb Him with questions like this. He may not reply... If you really want to know, Miss Yvette, why don't you try praying to God yourself?"
"Okay." Yvette sighed in her heart.
She certainly wouldn't contact the God of Machinery. Who knows what the God of Machinery's attitude is towards human survivors... What if they are exposed and subjected to heavy fire?
She also strongly suspected that the Machine God might have a way to resurrect humanity. After all, before the apocalypse, there were even organizations like the "Civilization Preservation Society." Surely there must be other private and official means of overcoming the tribulation, such as a hidden human gene bank. But it had done nothing, and this fact itself might have hinted at its attitude.
