Chapter 8 Evidence
Shen Yuan kept remembering what she "heard" in the Dali Temple today. She thought that maybe that person was related to the case that her father was worried about before.
So, even though she knew she would definitely be scolded, Shen Yuan still waited obediently for her father to come home.
"Dad!" Shen Yuan ran over to flatter Shen Yun as soon as he saw him coming back, "Dad, don't be angry yet, I have something to tell you, and I'll get out of here after I'm done. I won't bother you."
As soon as Shen Yun saw his daughter like this, he knew that there must be something wrong with Lin Yougui. He had seen it all, so he didn't have to worry about whether to take the shortcut or not. Lin Yougui had been released now. If he really had a problem, then they would have let the murderer escape.
When the two of them arrived at the study, Shen Yuan couldn't wait to ask, "Dad, is the person behind Mr. Xie today related to the case you were worried about before?"
Shen Yun did not answer, but asked her daughter: "What did you hear? Tell me everything."
Shen Yuan honestly repeated what she "heard". On the way home, she kept repeating these two sentences in her mind, not daring to miss a word.
After listening to it, Shen Yun actually felt that it was true.
"father?"
"Go back to your room first and have dinner with your sister-in-law."
Shen Yuan was somewhat dissatisfied, "Dad, you are just killing the donkey after you have done your work!"
"Are you a donkey?"
Shen Yuan left angrily, and decided never to care about his father's affairs again.
After Xie returned to Linjia Village, he suggested going to the Lin family's house again. Lin Yougui did not object, but let him walk around the house.
In Lin Yougui's mind, his return to Linjia Village meant that the Dali Temple could no longer tolerate him. Moreover, Xie Hui was young and looked like a nobleman, so Lin Yougui did not believe that he would investigate the case at all.
However, in front of everyone, he still looked very sad. When neighbors came to visit him after he returned home, he actually fainted twice from crying.
The villagers felt sympathy when they saw this, but they did not care that Xie had returned and the two constables were still there. When Xie went back to the house to check and was not around, they started to complain about the government's incompetence and that they had not caught the person who poisoned the house for several days.
Perhaps they were too filled with righteous indignation, the villagers did not notice Xie Hui appearing behind them, and instead talked even more excitedly.
"What a bunch of unruly people! What do they know?" The two constables who came back with Xie were indignant.
Xie Hui walked in as if nothing had happened. When the villagers saw him come in, they suspected that he had heard what they had just said. They dared to mutter a few words behind his back, but in front of him, they were all like quails, afraid that they would be arrested by the officials.
"Lin Yougui, please do not leave this place at will in the next few days. If there are new clues, the Dali Temple will look for you again."
"Your Excellency is joking. My wife and children are here. Where can I go? Besides, their funeral has not been handled yet." As he spoke, Lin Yougui burst into tears again, looking heartbroken.
After leaving Linjia Village, Xie Hui told the two detectives to stay and keep an eye on Lin Yougui. "Just remember where he went and what he did afterwards. Don't expose yourself. I will find someone to take over your shift tomorrow."
The next day, Shen Yun arrived at the duty room early and looked through the files related to the case. Based on what he heard yesterday and comparing it with the interrogations after the incident, he actually found something unusual.
The Dali Temple has one Dali Temple Minister and two Vice Ministers. The Dali Temple Minister is old and will retire soon, so the vast majority of cases are handed over to the two Vice Ministers, who only need to make the final decision.
This case was the same. Because it was quite serious, it was handed over to Shen Yun and Xie Hui for joint investigation from the beginning.
Xie Hui also arrived early. As soon as he sat down, Shen Yun came to his door.
"Master Xie, did you find any clues at the Lin family yesterday?"
Speaking of discovery, Xie Hui did have a point.
"Yesterday I walked around the Lin family and found that Lin Yougui and Chen did not seem to live in the same place, and Lin Yougui lived in the main house."
Xie Hui is not married yet, but from what his parents say, a couple who have a harmonious relationship will not easily live in separate rooms.
After the incident, they also visited the crime scene and found Chen's clothes in the cupboard in the main house, so they did not pay much attention to it at the time.
But yesterday he found that many of Chen's underwear were placed in a small room on the east side of the courtyard. Most of Chen's clothes in the main room were obviously wrinkled and had a stale smell, which meant they had not been worn for a long time.
Shen Yun also responded quickly, "Are you saying that they have a bad relationship?"
This just happened to match Lin Yougui's "feelings". Shen Yun handed the case file in his hand back to Xie, "Thank you, sir, for taking a look at this."
This is a record of an interrogation. The person is Yu Liniang, from the same village as Chen’s mother’s family.
Seeing Xie Hui reading the case file, Shen Yun expressed his thoughts.
"This Yu Li Niang is from Chenjia Village. After the incident, I simply questioned the villagers, but found nothing, so I ignored it." In fact, it was because of what his daughter told him that he paid special attention to this "Li Niang".
"Did Lord Shen find anything?" Xie Hui knew that if Shen Yun didn't have a big trick, he wouldn't have come to him with the case file.
"When asked about who the Chen family and Lin Yougui had conflicts with, Yu Liniang specifically mentioned that she was married from another village and that after her husband passed away, she had no contact with the people in Chenjia Village, so she was not clear about the affairs of the Chen and Lin families.
But when people asked about the relationship between Lin Yougui and Chen, she said: "They have a good relationship. I heard that they have never had a quarrel or lost their temper. Lin Yougui even accompanies Chen to her parents' home every month."
There seems to be nothing wrong with this statement. After all, many villagers in both Chenjia Village and Linjia Village have mentioned this point.
But compared to Li Niang's perfunctory and evasive responses to other questions, her answer to this question was a bit deliberate. After all, she had evaded many of the previous questions by saying that she was not familiar with them and did not know.
Shen Yun sighed and said, "I was only focusing on Lin Yougui at the time and ignored the others."
"Doesn't this just prove that your guess, Lord Shen, is correct? There is indeed something wrong with Lin Yougui."
Shen Yun also knew that now was not the time to sigh, and the most urgent task was to find evidence.
"We need to have someone keep an eye on Yu Liniang."
An hour later, I actually found out something.
Yu Li Niang was originally from Qingzhou. Her father was a traveling doctor. He died of illness not long after he brought his wife and children to the capital. After that, his daughter Li Niang married in Chenjia Village on the outskirts of Beijing.
In the afternoon, the constable sent by Shen Yun to Chenjia Village returned.
"Sir, we found out. Yu Liniang's neighbor said that her cat died about a month ago. She initially thought that the cat accidentally ate something poisonous outside and didn't take it seriously. She didn't tell anyone before."
"Tell Yu Li Niang to go to the Dali Temple and have someone keep a close eye on Lin Yougui."
