Chapter 308 Silent Tears

Today, a piece of news shocked the people at the educated youth settlement.

I don't know who said it first.

They said the brigade has a quota for the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University, and this time they only need one person.

After hearing this, the people at the educated youth settlement all had their own thoughts; which one of them didn't want to go back to the city?

But returning to the city is such an easy thing.

If this is true, then we really need to make good use of it.

Otherwise, who knows when the next one will be?

They all seemed quiet, but when it came to eating, they ate faster than the next one.

After eating, he went inside to see what good things he had, hoping to use them to make connections.

Yu Lili rummaged around for a while, then laughed and said, "I'm going out for a walk."

She left with something in her arms.

She brought two packs of good cigarettes with her, but she didn't plan to take them all out. This time she only brought a bag of brown sugar and a pound of steamed egg cakes.

After leaving the educated youth settlement, we headed towards the brigade leader's house.

We didn't encounter anyone else on the way.

When they arrived at the brigade leader's house, they saw Meng Zhenzhen and Zhang Hongmei there.

There were cigarettes, alcohol, and other things on the table.

The captain's face turned ashen.

These people all seemed to have heard from somewhere that there were places available at the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University.

He only found out today at a meeting; how come these people are so well-informed!

Before it was even announced, they came to my house to pull strings.

They're all so infuriating!

Who wouldn't want to go to the Workers', Peasants' and Soldiers' University?

He also wanted Huo Junshan, the only two high school students in the Huo family, to go.

Huo Min hasn't graduated yet, so she can't go even if she wants to.

He originally planned to talk to the third brother that night and ask him to try his best.

His wife's family is from the city, and they are all capable.

If you marry a farmer, and can go to university and get a job in the future, wouldn't that sound better to others?

These people are blocking him here and preventing him from leaving.

When the captain saw Yu Lili coming over, he waved his hand repeatedly: "Take your things and go back."

Yu Lili never expected that someone would be faster than her.

She looked at Meng Zhenzhen and noticed that her complexion had improved considerably.

When we looked at Zhang Hongmei again, her complexion was not as good as it had been at the educated youth settlement.

His complexion was a bit yellowish.

She laughed and said, "I thought it was someone else. Meng Zhenzhen, you're already in the village, and you're still thinking about going to school? Does your man agree to that?"

Meng Zhenzhen has been doing very well lately, and she is quite pleased with herself.

“What’s there to disagree about? If I go to university and get a proper job, I can bring my son Dawang with me.”

Zhang Hongmei's face paled slightly upon hearing this; she had come without Wang Dachuan's knowledge.

She was resting at home during this period because the wheat harvest had just ended.

The day before yesterday morning, Wang Dachuan didn't get up to make breakfast, which upset his mother-in-law, so he hit her in a fit of anger.

She now truly regrets marrying Wang Dachuan.

If I persevere a little longer, maybe I can go back to the city after going to the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University this time.

But it's too late to say anything now.

She looked at Yu Lili, then at Meng Zhenzhen.

They wanted to ask the captain, but ultimately didn't say anything.

They took the things and left.

Yu Lili and Zhang Hongmei had both left, and she turned and left as well.

Meng Zhenzhen wanted to ask the brigade leader again.

"Captain, I think..."

The captain took two deep drags on his pipe: "Hurry up and go, even if you don't want to, I do!"

"We don't know what's going on yet, so don't listen to what others say, just come over and tell us right now."

"Wait for further instructions, and stop trying to pull strings!"

“If you could pull some strings, you wouldn’t even have a chance. Ningning would have already taken the third son back to the city.”

Meng Zhenzhen was embarrassed and left with her things.

As soon as they returned to the Li family home, Li Dawang grabbed her clothes and asked, "How did it go? What did the brigade leader say?"

Meng Zhenzhen shook her head: "The captain said we have to wait for further instructions, and we still don't know what's going on?"

Seeing that she was unhappy, Li Dawang coaxed her, "Okay, don't be sad. We'll go when the captain tells us."

Li Dawang pulled her into the house.

In the main room, Aunt Li gestured with her lip towards Uncle Li: "Look at your son, isn't he stupid? He's a complete idiot!"

"Upon hearing that there were places available at the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University, he rushed to bring out all the good things in the house and asked his daughter-in-law to pull strings with the brigade leader."

"Aren't you afraid your wife will run away and you'll be left without a wife!"

Uncle Li laughed and said, "Da Wang doesn't think that much. You can talk to him more. But if Zhenzhen can really go back to the city, it would be great if she could take Da Wang with her!"

"Anyway, she's not far from here. Isn't she from the city above?"

Aunt Li shook her head: "You two are really equally foolish. If she could go back to the city, what kind of man wouldn't she have!"

"Does it have to be a peasant?"

Uncle Li seemed to be deep in thought, then suddenly said, "If only I had a child, I could keep her heart."

Aunt Li pursed her lips: "I hope so! I hope we can hold our grandson soon."

When Zhang Hongmei returned, she saw that Wang Dachuan was still sleeping in the room, so she quietly put his things away.

He sat down in the room and started sewing shoe soles.

This is what her mother-in-law taught her; the soles of the shoes were made for Wang Dachuan.

It's too hard on her hands; she can't find the trick and has pricked her hand several times already.

But the mother-in-law said, "You'll learn after you've done a few more."

She had just finished administering a few acupuncture needles when Wang Dachuan woke up.

Seeing Zhang Hongmei working so diligently, he felt annoyed.
