guard
On the way down the mountain, Jiang Yingyue felt a little bored and started wondering if she would encounter that group of bandits again. Qiyun Mountain may not have much else, but it has a lot of steps. She thought of the man from earlier. If he could walk up the mountain step by step from the foot of the mountain, given the sect leader's style, he would definitely be accepted as a disciple.
Most of the people who come to learn martial arts have a foundation in martial arts. For a mountain like this, using light footwork to leap up is the most basic skill. But that person clearly didn't even have that ability, otherwise he wouldn't have been chased by bandits.
Jiang Yingyue looked up at the sky. Even though the dense bamboo forest blocked most of the sun, she could still tell the time. Of course, she wanted to use her light-footed skills to go down the mountain directly, but her task for today was to patrol the mountain, and all the markers along the way had to be redone before it was considered complete.
The gourd hanging from her waist made a thumping sound, and Jiang Yingyue quickened her pace. Originally, she could have finished this task leisurely, but now she really couldn't wait any longer.
She had to get down the mountain immediately; it was a matter of life and death.
Jiang Yingyue flew down the steps like a bird. Some of the markings were on the bamboo, some on the stones, and some were even hidden among the scattered leaves. If it weren't for the detailed markings left by her senior sister Ji Yinglei, she probably wouldn't have been able to find them all even after a whole day.
With her tireless efforts, the last marker was finally found. After recording it, Jiang Yingyue rushed to the side almost immediately and then jumped down, which was the fastest route down the mountain.
At the foot of Qiyun Mountain lies a town with the same name as the mountain, Qiyun Town. After passing through the town, it's another two or three days' journey to reach Hangzhou City. Jiang Yingyue has never been there. She likes her current life; her own little world is enough with the Mingyue Sect and Qiyun Town.
"Oh, isn't this Miss Jiang?" A middle-aged man was the first to recognize her, and then everyone began to greet her in a friendly manner.
Finally, she stopped in front of a very inconspicuous stall. The stall owner was an old woman who looked a bit old: "Young lady, you've come."
Jiang Yingyue took the gourd off her body and placed it on the stall: "Do you have any more today?"
Perhaps sensing Jiang Yingyue's urgency, the mother-in-law quickly replied, "Yes, yes, we save some for the young lady every day."
A moment later, the gourd was put back by the mother-in-law. Jiang Yingyue didn't wait a moment longer and immediately picked it up and drank from it.
The rich aroma of the wine filled her nostrils and throat, bringing her immense pleasure, even though it had only been a day since she last drank Granny Liu's wine. Thinking of this, Jiang Yingyue couldn't help but feel a pang of emotion: how could she live without wine?
Jiang Yingyue drank more than half a pot in one go. After she was satisfied, she got up to leave. She deliberately chose the moment when Granny Liu turned around, and gently placed the money on the table before getting up. But she had only taken two steps when she heard Granny Liu's voice: "Didn't I already tell you, Miss Jiang, that I don't charge you when you come to my stall?"
"Money? Where is the money? That's not mine." Jiang Yingyue hurriedly tried to cover it up, as if she were trying to evade her guilt.
"Your Bright Moon Sect has protected us common people for so many years. We can never repay the kindness of our sect leader in several lifetimes. How can you talk about charging money?"
That's what they say, but who can honestly dine and dash without a second thought? Jiang Yingyue's ears turned red, as if they were burning from the smell of alcohol: "Ah, I just remembered I have some urgent business on the mountain today, I'll have to go now, Grandma!"
And so, Jiang Yingyue fled as if she were escaping. On her way back, she couldn't help but marvel at the simplicity and kindness of the townspeople. Once, to express their gratitude, almost every household came to give Jiang Yingyue gifts, telling her to take them back to the sect. Even someone as skilled as her almost couldn't escape.
Jiang Yingyue understood. Her father had taught her that they were not protecting this place because of the people's love and respect, so they should never take even a needle or thread from the people.
Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, Jiang Yingyue leaped lightly and skillfully used her light-footed skills to ascend the mountain.
