Inside the Bright Moon Sect, all the disciples were gathered in the martial arts arena. They had been waiting there for nearly two hours, yet it remained eerily quiet.

About an hour ago, Senior Sister Ji Yinglei spoke up for them, but the sect leader unusually refused her, so now she can only wait with everyone else.

Not long after, a dark figure appeared in the sky above the martial arts arena. Before anyone could look up, Jiang Yingyue landed right next to Ji Yinglei. Seeing that everyone seemed to be somewhat resentful, she didn't dare to speak. She just whispered a few questions to Ji Yinglei: "What happened today?" Since Jiang Yingyue returned to the Bright Moon Sect, she hadn't seen a single person along the way. It was only after searching around that she finally found them at the martial arts arena.

Ji Yinglei's face usually showed only a gentle smile, but this time he turned to Jiang Yingyue with a puzzled look, almost as if he wanted to ask her, "How could you not know?"

However, before Ji Yinglei could ask a question, the sect leader said directly, "Since Yue'er is here, let's begin."

All the disciples bowed in unison, except for Jiang Yingyue, who was unaware of what was happening. She saw the sect leader slowly rise, and then two disciples pushed something over. Until the last second before the cloth covering the fan was lifted, Jiang Yingyue had no idea what was going to happen.

However, there was no need for explanation. A flash of blue-purple light appeared, accompanied by a low rumble of thunder in the sky. A snow-blue longsword appeared before everyone. Jiang Yingyue immediately knew that it was the most powerful artifact of the Bright Moon Sect: the Thunder Sword.

"Wait, why take out the Thunder Sword now?" Jiang Yingyue already had the answer in her heart, but she was still somewhat unwilling to believe it. After all, it was a divine artifact, and taking it out must mean that a huge change was about to occur within the sect. She looked at Ji Yinglei beside her, hoping that she could deny her guess.

Ji Yinglei shook his head: "I tried to persuade the sect leader, but he still insists on handing over the position of sect leader."

Jiang Yingyue immediately turned her gaze to the sect leader, but he simply said, "I'm too old to sit in this position anymore."

"Father!" Jiang Yingyue was so anxious that she forgot to call him the sect leader. This matter happened too suddenly for her. Why didn't they even tell their daughter?

"My mind is made up. Whoever gains the approval of the Thunder Sword will become the next Sect Master of the Bright Moon Sect."

The air in the training ground seemed to freeze instantly, everyone's gaze fixed on the Thunder Sword, which exuded a mysterious aura. Jiang Yingyue's nails dug deeply into her palms; her father's decision had struck like a bolt from the blue, leaving her utterly defenseless.

Actually, handing over the position of sect leader is not a bad thing. Jiang Yuan is already 60 years old, so it is not unreasonable for him to pass on the responsibility to the next generation. However, his sudden decision, without revealing his thoughts to Jiang Yingyue, makes her feel extremely uneasy.

Gradually, disciples began to step forward to try, but they were either frightened by the thunder or repelled by the lightning surrounding the Thunder Sword. No matter how kind words or forceful actions were used, the sword seemed to ignore them.

This somewhat eased Jiang Yingyue's unease, and she began to wonder what kind of people this artifact would recognize.

"Have you been drinking?" Ji Yinglei's voice rang out from the side.

A flicker of panic crossed Jiang Yingyue's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure: "Is it that obvious?" Ji Yinglei did not answer, which was clearly an admission.

"Grandma Liu's wine is indeed fragrant, so the whole training ground smells like that as soon as you arrive," Ji Yinglei joked.

"Then my father must have smelled it too." Jiang Yingyue sighed. Jiang Yuan had always been against disciples of the sect getting too close to ordinary people. He believed that the Bright Moon Sect only needed to quietly protect them, and that excessive contact could easily lead to trouble. Jiang Yingyue had been punished quite a bit for this, but that didn't stop her from buying wine. "Why didn't he tell me..."

Ji Yinglei keenly noticed Jiang Yingyue's unusual mood: "Don't think too much about it, relax. The sect leader probably has his own plans."

"Hmm." Jiang Yingyue closed her eyes, trying to compose herself, but suddenly realized something. "Were you waiting for me? How long?"

"About two hours."

"Two hours? You've been waiting for me since I set off on my patrol? Wait, why would I be assigned a patrol mission on such an important day?"

Before Ji Yinglei could reply, Jiang Yuan's voice came again: "Come on, now it's just the two of you left."
