Nanfeng Tower

Nanfeng Tower

“Wang Kui…” Hearing Yan Tang say that, Jiang Yingyue was about to rush onto the stage, but he stopped her. Although Yan Tang was thin and sick, the force with which he held her was not small. Jiang Yingyue turned around in confusion and saw him looking at her with a complicated expression: “The person on the stage now is not him.”

Jiang Yingyue's eyes widened in surprise, but she finally calmed down.

“Although the voices are similar, the singing style is different from Changyun’s. I’ve only ever seen this kind of singing at Nanfeng Tower,” Yantang said. Qingxiao, who was standing next to her, was also somewhat incredulous: “Nanfeng Tower? How could that be?”

Jiang Yingyue immediately realized the problem: "He's not even here... No, we can't let this lead go cold."

“It didn’t stop.” Yantang coughed uncontrollably again. “I know Changyun. His love for drama is no less than anyone else’s, especially for performances. He won’t miss a single one.”

"That's true, but now they've found someone to replace him, haven't they?" Qingxiao said sarcastically, his anger rising.

“If he doesn’t perform here, he’ll definitely find a way to sing elsewhere.” Yantang was absolutely certain. He had seen Changyun perform even when he had a serious leg injury, for the sake of the performance, even though he was just a supporting actor.

Following Yantang's words, Jiang Yingyue immediately had an idea: "You mean, he's at Nanfeng Tower right now?"

Yan Tang nodded: "Apart from Mirror Flower Terrace, South Wind Pavilion is the most famous."

Upon receiving this news, Jiang Yingyue was about to set off immediately. She subconsciously glanced in Ye Qingzhu's direction. Everyone outside was together, and she couldn't call Ye Qingzhu. After some thought, she finally decided to go alone.

Nanfeng Tower was quite a distance from the Ye residence, and Jiang Yingyue's prized lightness skill finally came in handy. In just a short while, she arrived at her destination. Jiang Yingyue gripped the Qingyun Sword at her waist tightly; at this moment, she felt as if she had already touched upon the truth behind the massacre of her entire family.

Inside the Nanfeng Tower, the sounds of string and wind instruments mingled with cheers, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The gilded palace lanterns stained the red silk on the stage with a blood-red hue. The actors, their sleeves billowing in the rhythm of gongs and drums, moved gracefully. Jiang Yingyue, clinging to a pillar, disappeared into the shadows, her gaze sweeping over the drunken spectators below before returning to the stage.

"The fragrance of perfume and powder beneath the crystal curtains is indescribable; I often emulate the elegant Zhang Chang's skillful painting of his eyebrows."

The one singing right now is Changyun! And he's not even wearing a mask! Jiang Yingyue had been on the periphery of the crowd, and it was obviously unrealistic to go up on stage and interrupt him in this environment, so she stared intently at Changyun on stage, who was facing to the side.

“The stars are shining, the moonlight is bright, and the shadows of the paulownia trees are playing. This past is like a spring dream, impossible to chase.”

After singing that line, he suddenly turned his head and actually spotted Jiang Yingyue in the crowd. This sudden eye contact startled her, but this time, Changyun clearly had no intention of running away.

"This was also something Wang Kui had no choice but to do, thus betraying his affectionate wife, Lady Jiao."

The apology sounded as if it were addressed to Jiang Yingyue, which made her even more convinced that Changyun was definitely a participant that day!

Changyun was singing on stage when another person appeared behind her. She was dressed in white and her face was covered. Jiang Yingyue could vaguely hear the voices of the people in front of her discussing: "Look! Ao Guiying has come to take revenge!"

However, the story took an unexpected turn the next second. Wang Kui suddenly raised the long knife beside him, turned around, and cut the ghost behind him in two. Only then did the audience realize that it was not Ao Guiying, but a puppet made of cloth bag.

The crowd was silent for a while because of this scene, and then burst into a series of voices. Ao Guiying's revenge had failed! There was anger, doubt and cheers among the audience. Just when everyone thought there would be more stories to come, Changyun on the stage turned around and took his bow to everyone.

Jiang Yingyue dared not stay where she was and squeezed forward with all her might, but that was too slow. Seeing Changyun return to the backstage area, she gritted her teeth and flew over using her light-footed skill. She didn't care about keeping a low profile; she just wanted to find out the clues.
