Surviving the Catastrophe, Part Two
Jiang Yingyue suddenly opened her eyes and found herself in a completely unfamiliar place. She instinctively tried to get up, but the pain in her shoulder pulled her back to reality.
She tried hard to recall what had happened before she lost consciousness. Just then, the door opened, and Ye Qingzhu walked in. Seeing Jiang Yingyue awake, she was incredibly excited and immediately rushed to the bedside: "You're awake? That's wonderful!"
"Where is this? Where are the assassins? Are you alright?" Jiang Yingyue asked anxiously, though she could tell the answer just by looking at Ye Qingzhu's current condition.
"This is my home. Their pathetic skills were no match for me, they could easily be driven away!" Ye Qingzhu boasted proudly. "But you, how could you risk your life to save me? Let me make this clear, I never owe favors. If there's anything you want right now, just say so, and I'll give it to you if I can."
"What you're saying... I didn't do this for your return gift... Ouch..." As she spoke, Jiang Yingyue aggravated her wounds, indicating that the injury was quite serious and she didn't know when it would heal. "It's just that, when I see you, I think of some people I couldn't protect before."
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward for a moment, and both of them fell silent.
"By the way, do you know who those people are?" Jiang Yingyue asked. Seeing Ye Qingzhu shake her head, she found the Heavenly Alliance jade token on her person. "I saw it. One of the assassins had a jade token hidden in his sleeve, exactly the same as this one."
Ye Qingzhu clearly didn't believe it: "Heavenly Dao Alliance? Impossible. Our family has always had a good relationship with the Heavenly Dao Alliance. Could you be mistaken?"
“On the morning I sold the wine, I went to Mirror Flower Terrace and just happened to find this. As a result, someone came to assassinate me that night. I don’t think it’s a coincidence.” Jiang Yingyue was very sure that she was not mistaken. “The material of the Heavenly Alliance jade tablet must not be a common thing. The pattern is the same. Although I only saw half of it at that time, I can be sure of it.”
Ye Qingzhu hesitated noticeably. She recalled the words and actions of those assassins, which were not only blatant offenses but also attempts to kill her, a member of the Ye family. If they were indeed members of the Heavenly Alliance, then this debt had to be settled.
"There's no evidence for any of what you've said. Given that person's personality, they won't turn against the Heavenly Alliance so easily," Ye Qingzhu said. The only point the assassins made was that she indeed had little say in the Ye family. They were willing to give her everything she needed, but they wouldn't let her interfere in any affairs.
“Those assassins must be connected to the owner of that jade pendant, and he is a member of the Mirror Flower Terrace. As long as you invite that opera troupe to perform, I will definitely find him.” Jiang Yingyue immediately added, “Not only for you, but also for me.”
......
"Listening to opera?" A woman dressed in a dark green ruqun (a type of traditional Chinese dress) swirled the teacup in her hand. Her hair was styled in a classic "chuoma" (a type of traditional Chinese hairstyle), and her eyes and brows exuded gentleness. "When did you develop this hobby, little sister?"
"A friend introduced us, and I think it's quite interesting." In the past, if Ye Qingzhu wanted something, she would always go to her older sister first, and this time was no exception. "How about inviting that... Mirror Flower Terrace to perform a show in our manor? Sister Mozhu?"
Ye Mozhu slowly put down her teacup and joked, "When have I ever given you what you wanted? Mirror Flower Terrace does have some connection with the Ye family, but we haven't invited them over for more than ten years."
"Why?"
“When Father passed away, the Ye family forbade anyone from seeking pleasure. Xiu… Eldest Brother also prefers quiet now. If we directly invite a theatrical troupe, I’m afraid he won’t agree.” Ye Mozhu sighed, then asked, “Since you like it, why don’t you just go see their performance?”
