Chapter 54

Chapter 54

In the early morning, the sunlight lazily streamed down.

A slender, fair wrist slipped out from under the gray blanket, a faint red mark standing out against the snow-white skin.

He rubbed his groggy head and got up, squinting at the red tie lying on the floor. The image of Fei Mi from last night flashed through his mind.

That bastard took advantage of her business trip to bully her severely, even binding her wrists with a tie.

She seriously suspected that Lu Runxu had secretly watched adult films behind her back, otherwise how come she could never outmaneuver him?

But that scoundrel of a man was so proud of himself, saying that he was exceptionally gifted and didn't need any external help.

Xing Bei was eating breakfast at the dining table when a message popped up on her phone. She glanced at it casually; it was a reminder from a memo she had set a few days ago.

It's April, and Lu Runxu's birthday is just a few days away. She still hasn't decided what to give him.

She calculated the time Lu Runxu would be away on his business trip, and the day he returned would be his birthday. Why not be a little more traditional this time and have a candlelight dinner?

With nothing to do, Xing Bei saw that many people online were making birthday cakes for their boyfriends by hand, so she asked Aunt Huang to teach her how to make a birthday cake.

Unfortunately, I really have no cooking skills. I spilled the cream while whipping it, and I couldn't spread the cream evenly on the cake base. The fruit carvings I made were a mess and looked terrible.

She had painstakingly studied the recipe for two days and could barely make it passable. Fearing it might actually taste bad, she asked Aunt Huang to make another one.

The afternoon sun felt warm on her skin, and Xing Bei huddled in her studio to paint. Looking at the several paintings piled up in the studio, she wanted to find a place to put them together.

The housekeeper said there was a room upstairs, but Lu Runxu had instructed them not to go to that room as soon as they came in.

Xing Bei was very curious; could it be that he was hiding something good?

She asked, "Can I go in and take a look?"

The butler hesitated for a moment, but Xing Bei didn't wait for his answer. She gently patted his shoulder and said, "Never mind all that. If Lu Runxu blames us, just say it was my request."

Xing Bei pushed open the door, and the room was pitch black. She found the light switch by looking through the gap in the curtains.

When the lights came on, all the items in the room were illuminated. Xing Bei immediately noticed the painting hanging on the wall. The familiar style of the painting made Xing Bei freeze on the spot.

She walked over and saw the label in the bottom right corner—An Unexpected Heartbeat.

This was a sketch she did during her second semester of freshman year. The following year, her friend held an art exhibition, and she displayed this painting.

After the art exhibition ended, her friend contacted her, saying that someone wanted to buy the painting for a high price. Xing Bei was very happy that someone appreciated her paintings.

Unexpectedly, the buyer turned out to be Lu Runxu.

Xing Bei raised her hand and brushed over the fox eyes in the painting. The fox eyes, half human and half human, were alluring and pale in color, while the other eye was that of a real fox with brighter colors. It was a strange and mysterious painting style, and for a moment it felt like returning to that sunny summer.

During that period, she experienced a creative drought and thought that going out for a few days might bring some inspiration.

She saw a popular resort online, packed a few things quickly, and set off.

Worry-Free Manor truly lives up to its name; the scenery there is beautiful, with flowers everywhere. A gust of wind seems to blow away all your worries, and the air is filled with the fragrance of flowers.

There is also a very old tree there, with lush branches and leaves. Xing Bei likes to sit on the lawn under the tree and feel the breeze.

Blue skies and white clouds, flowers everywhere, a gentle summer breeze, and a bright red, crisp watermelon in hand—it's all the taste of summer.

Thinking of a photo that Lu Runxu had posted on Weibo before, she knew that the protagonist in the painting was him.

It's unbelievable that they met at that time; it really is all destined.

The day before Xing Bei was to leave, she went to sketch under the big tree after lunch and had an unexpected reward.

In the flower field not far away, amidst the crowd, she noticed a different figure, and when the other person looked over, she was indeed amazed.

She has an inverted triangle figure, her black shirt is slightly open, revealing her long, fair neck and her collarbone, as well as her slim waist and long legs.

Her expression was aloof, but her eyes seemed to speak volumes. Standing among the flowers, she stared intently at people, captivating them if they weren't careful.

Xing Bei wondered at the time if this was a fox spirit reincarnated.

This trip did indeed bring her special inspiration, and when she got home, she couldn't wait to draw out the ideas in her mind, which took her a whole day and night.

Looking at the eyes in the painting, Xing Bei smiled helplessly. After all the twists and turns, it had come back to her. Was this fate?

When Lu Runxu returned from his business trip, it was already past ten o'clock when he arrived home. Xing Bei was waiting on the sofa when she accidentally fell asleep.

He looked at the person sleeping on the sofa, then at the candlelight dinner prepared on the side, and couldn't help but chuckle.

As if sensing something, the person on the sofa groggily opened their eyes and made eye contact with the person standing next to the sofa.

“You’re back.” Xing Bei instinctively stretched out her hands.

Lu Runxu took her from the sofa, picked her up, and kissed her on the back of her neck.

"Why don't you go upstairs to sleep?" he asked.

"I've been waiting for you." Xing Bei pointed behind him. "It's your birthday today, and I even made you a cake myself."

Lu Runxu carried her over there, when Xing Bei suddenly jumped down, picked up the cake, and handed it to him. He hesitated for a moment.

Xing Bei quickly pried off a piece and stuffed it into his mouth: "This is plant-based cream, it won't cause allergies."

"How is it? Is it delicious?" Her peach blossom eyes sparkled with anticipation as she stared at him.

Lu Runxu stared into her eyes for a moment, then nodded with a smile: "Delicious, Madam's cooking skills have improved a lot."

Xing Bei looked at him proudly: "That's right, I'm exceptionally talented, I can learn it in no time."

"Sister, won't you try some?"

A mischievous smile played on Lu Runxu's lips as he lightly scooped up a smear of cream and pressed it onto her lips. Xing Bei almost instinctively stuck out her tongue.

Before the sweetness could even spread in her mouth, Lu Runxu lifted her chin with his palm, pressing his thumb directly onto her tongue, his eyes revealing a strange emotion.

Before they could figure out what he was up to, Lu Runxu inexplicably said with a hint of disdain, "Why is it so shallow?"

Xing Bei's eyes widened instantly.

He... he... he... could it be that he's thinking of...

The thought of that scene sent shivers down Xing Bei's spine. Absolutely not.

Seeing his terrified expression, Lu Runxu chuckled, took out his finger, gently wiped it across her lips, and then sealed her lips with his in a kiss.

The unexpected kiss caught Xing Bei off guard, and she instinctively tilted her head back, closed her eyes, and cooperated with him.

"elder sister."

Lu Runxu stroked her sensitive nape, and a soft hum escaped from the lips of the person in front of him.

She opened her eyes and met Lu Runxu's gaze. The man in front of her raised the corners of his eyes and chuckled softly, his lips seemingly teasing her on purpose.

Xing Bei tried to push him away, but the next second, the man grabbed her chin and blocked her tongue again, their tongues intertwining. To make matters worse, the man in front of her asked her questions with a wicked interest.

"Sister, why are you so hot? Do you have a fever?"

"Sister, let me cool you down, okay?"

"I didn't." Xing Bei pushed him away forcefully, panting with her head down.

What's wrong with this jerk? He came back from a business trip and he's acting all lewd.

Her hand was suddenly grasped and placed against his chest. Lu Runxu stared at her with a commanding gaze, and his hand was guided downwards.

When they stopped at a certain spot, the person in front of her leaned close to her ear and said in a low, slightly panting voice, "Sister, please help me cool down, okay? I feel so uncomfortable."

Xing Bei looked up at him with a half-smile: "Little brother, please beg me."

"Sister." Lu Runxu leaned in and kissed her lips, deliberately lowering his voice, "Please, please be gentle with me."

The next second, Xing Bei was picked up by him and carried upstairs. His mouth was constantly moving, teasing her tongue and exploring the temperature of her mouth.

She squinted as she watched him push open the studio door and place her on the chaise lounge. Her peach blossom eyes gradually welled up with tears as she stared at him, completely bewildered.

"Sister, do you remember teaching me to draw before?"

Xing Bei looked at the paintbrush in his hand with a puzzled expression. Why did he suddenly bring up painting at this time?

Lu Runxu scooped up the person from the chaise lounge and made her kneel in front of him. Before she could get up, Lu Runxu flipped her over so that her back was pressed tightly against him.

He had already taken off his nightgown on the stairs, and even through his shirt, Xing Bei could feel the warmth of the person behind her.

Her slender fingers touched the skin of her thigh, and the tip of the brush gently fell, spreading the bright red paint on her fair and smooth skin. The cool touch stimulated her cerebral cortex, and the brush tip continued to move, soon another paintbrush joined in.

The extreme stimulation of icy cold and scalding hot caused Xing Bei's entire tailbone to go numb, a sensation she had never experienced before, which made her feel somewhat overwhelmed.

"Sister, don't shake it, the fox is drawn crooked."

Xing Bei lowered her eyes, vaguely looking through the mist at a lifelike little fox on her thigh, its expression exactly like Lu Runxu's.

I must say, Lu Runxu's learning ability is indeed strong.

It's a bit of a waste to use it in this context.

...

Dark clouds rolled in outside the window, a flash of white light appeared, followed by a downpour, and thunder drowned out all other sounds inside the house.

Looking at the person in his arms who looked like she had been drenched in a downpour, Lu Runxu gently stroked her back. Xing Bei was already exhausted from his actions.

When she touched the bed, she rolled to her usual sleeping spot out of habit, leaving only her back to Lu Runxu.

After Xing Bei fell asleep, he got up to clean up the mess in the studio, glancing at the things covered up tightly on one side.

He walked over, hesitating whether to lift the black cloth, and the moment his fingertips touched it, the canvas slid down like silk, revealing a brightly colored painting.

Lu Runxu instantly recalled that summer, when the girl sat under a big tree, the summer breeze gently blowing her skirt, holding a slice of watermelon in her hand, and a carefree smile on her lips.

He picked up a pen from the side and added five characters to the place where the name was marked in the lower right corner of the artwork.

The next day, Xing Bei was taken aback when she saw the words Lu Runxu had added the night before, and then chuckled softly.

She originally intended to name the painting "Mr. Fox's Love," but when she started painting, she felt it was too ordinary, so she left it blank. Now, adding it here makes it quite romantic.

Mr. Fox and Miss Camellia
