Chapter Nineteen

Chapter Nineteen

After several days of light rain, the temperature gradually dropped.

Xing Bei wasn't very busy these past few days, but Lu Runxu started getting busy, often working overtime until midnight before coming home.

Xing Bei mixed herself a drink at the bar, glanced at the empty space, and sighed softly.

Lu Runxu has been on a business trip in Jiangcheng for the past few days. She was fine for the first few days, but as time went on, she suddenly felt a little uncomfortable.

Every morning, she would instinctively reach out to grab someone from the side, only realizing what was happening when she touched the cold blanket.

Now that she's gotten used to Lu Runxu's presence, she feels somewhat lonely and aloof when she's alone in Zhu Qingtang.

She turned off the bar light, picked up her laptop, and walked towards the sofa; she still had some work to finish.

Who knew that he would fall asleep on the table while working? Lu Runxu rushed home as soon as he finished his work in the afternoon.

He knew Xing Bei's lifestyle habits; if no one was supervising her, she could be as carefree as she wanted.

It was almost midnight when he got home. As soon as Lu Runxu opened the door, he noticed a faint light in the darkness and carefully walked over to it.

The person lying on the table was sleeping soundly, not even bothering to cover herself with a blanket. Just as he expected, he turned off the computer, picked up the person from the table, and carried her upstairs.

After not seeing him for a few days, the person I was holding felt a bit uncomfortable. The few pounds of flesh I had painstakingly raised had been ruined by her while he was away.

When he finished getting ready and came out, he saw Xing Bei wrapped herself up tightly in the blanket, curled up in a ball. Lu Runxu went over, lifted a corner of the blanket, and pulled her into his arms.

Xing Bei opened her eyes groggily and saw a familiar figure. Thinking she was dreaming, she closed her eyes again and snuggled closer to Lu Runxu. A faint sandalwood scent slowly filled her nostrils, and Xing Bei hugged him even tighter.

Lu Runxu smiled helplessly and lowered his head to kiss the forehead of the person in his arms.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains onto the white floor.

Xing Bei woke up from her sleep and instinctively reached for her side. The side was still cold, so she withdrew her hand and lay on the bed for a while longer.

She really was lovesick; last night she even dreamed that Lu Runxu came back. She was even sleeping while hugging Lu Runxu, but the feeling of his arm around her waist didn't seem like a dream.

Xing Bei sat on the bed and sighed softly. How much she missed him!

She squinted sleepily as she walked downstairs. Just as she reached the corner on the second floor, she smelled a strong aroma of food. When she saw a broad-shouldered, narrow-waisted man in a black shirt in the kitchen, Xing Bei rubbed her eyes in disbelief.

"When did you get back?" Xing Bei asked in surprise as she walked toward the kitchen.

Lu Runxu turned to look at her and pulled her directly into his arms: "Why didn't you sleep more last night?"

Last night, forgiveness wasn't a dream she had.

Xing Bei hugged his waist and snuggled against him, saying, "Lu Runxu, did you drug me? I've actually been missing you a little these past few days since you left."

Lu Runxu was amused by her words: "Mrs. Lu, just say you miss me, don't be shy."

"Lu Runxu, I miss you." Xing Bei has always been straightforward about her feelings.

Lu Runxu didn't expect her to admit it so readily. He pulled her waist and kissed her. Xing Bei didn't react in time and tilted her head back, resting her hands on his shoulders.

In her daze, Xing Bei heard Lu Runxu say, "I miss you too."

After an unknown amount of time, their breathing became increasingly erratic. Lu Runxu brushed aside the strands of hair he had just messed up and said, "Go and get ready. Breakfast will be ready soon."

After dinner, Xing Bei was drawing on the sofa when she heard the doorbell ring. She went to open the door wearing her shoes.

Secretary Lin stood outside the door carrying a box. Xing Bei thought he was looking for Lu Runxu and was about to call out to Lu Runxu when Secretary Lin interrupted her.

"Madam, I'm not here to see Mr. Lu."

He then opened the box and handed it to Xing Bei: "This is a gift that President Lu prepared for you. It has been thoroughly inspected."

Xing Bei saw a small white dog inside the box, sitting quietly. Xing Bei's eyes lit up instantly.

The puppy looked at her timidly, its eyes were big and dark. Xing Bei picked it up and held it in her arms. It was so tiny and adorable.

Xing Bei gently stroked the little white dog's head. Last time, she was disappointed that she couldn't keep a dog, but she didn't expect Lu Runxu to bring one back directly.

The little white dog in her arms seemed to like her very much, gently nuzzling her palm with its head. Xing Bei looked up at Secretary Lin and asked, "What's Ta's name?"

Secretary Lin smiled and shook his head: "Madam, this puppy doesn't have a name yet. Mr. Lu said you can name it."

Xing Bei lowered her eyes and thought for a moment: "Then let's call her Little Tangyuan. She has fair skin and bright black eyes, and looks just like a little tangyuan."

Xing Bei held the small glutinous rice ball up to her eyes and softly called out, "No, little glutinous rice ball."

Little Tangyuan called out softly, as if in response to Xing Bei's fondness for the name. Xing Bei happily rubbed her forehead against Little Tangyuan.

Lu Runxu came downstairs. Seeing the scene of a person and a dog in the living room, a smile appeared on his lips. He walked to Xing Bei's side, raised his hand and patted Xiao Tangyuan's head: "Mrs. Lu, do you like it?"

Xing Bei nodded happily: "I like it. How did you know I really wanted to have a dog?"

“I went for a walk that night, and when I got home I noticed you weren’t in a very good mood,” Lu Runxu said, putting his arm around her shoulder. “I only need to pay a little attention to know what you’re thinking.”

Lu Runxu: "Mrs. Lu, you don't need to envy others."

If Xing Bei weren't holding Xiao Tangyuan in her arms right now, she really would have liked to give Lu Runxu a hug.

That night, she saw other people's dogs and was indeed envious, but she didn't think about getting a dog because she was too busy with work.

“But we’re busy with work and don’t have time to take care of Xiaotangyuan,” Xing Bei asked.

Lu Runxu gently stroked the top of her head: "Don't worry about that, Aunt Huang will come to help us tomorrow."

Aunt Huang has been taking care of Lu Runxu since he was a child. After Lu Runxu returned and started working, Aunt Huang stayed at the old house.

When they moved to Zhuqing Bay, Lu Runxu wanted to invite Aunt Huang over, but he didn't say so because he was afraid Xing Bei wouldn't adapt.

Secretary Lin stood to the side, suppressing a smile: "President Lu, I'll head back to the company now."

Lu Runxu looked over and nodded: "Okay, send the contract to President Wang while you're at it."

"Understood." After saying that, the secretary turned and left quickly.

Mr. Lu and his wife must be very affectionate. Seeing Mr. Lu's arrogant yet seemingly casual demeanor, Secretary Lin really wanted to expose him in front of his wife.

But doing so would put his position as chief secretary at risk.

When they were on a business trip in Jiangcheng, after finishing the contract, they had an afternoon left. Mr. Lu dragged him all over half of Jiangcheng before they finally found a little white dog that suited his wife's taste.

He also suggested that he go and buy it, but President Lu refused outright. Only after all the checks were completed did he allow him to deliver it to his wife today.

Having grown accustomed to her boss's cold demeanor at the company, Secretary Lin was almost convinced that Mr. Lu had been possessed when she saw the way he looked at Mrs. Lu from the doorway.

Those fox eyes were as serene and gentle as the bright moonlight.

Lu Runxu still had some work to handle, so Xing Bei played with Xiao Tangyuan on the sofa for the whole afternoon. Xiao Tangyuan had gone from being timid at the beginning to being completely skilled at it now.

It jumps around on the sofa, much like Shiro from Crayon Shin-chan.

After dinner, Xing Bei happily pulled Lu Runxu along to help set up a little nest for Xiao Tangyuan.

Xing Bei and Lu Runxu settled down on one side, while Xiao Tangyuan quietly stayed by Xing Bei's side, occasionally winking at her.

She absolutely loved it. Holding Little Tangyuan, she walked towards the sofa. After Lu Runxu finished tidying up, he turned around and saw a person and a dog snuggling together on the sofa, watching a drama.

Lu Runxu walked over and kicked the little dumpling out of Xing Bei's arms.

Seeing such a rough movement, Xing Bei looked at him worriedly: "Lu Runxu, what are you doing? You'll hurt Xiao Tangyuan in a minute."

Xing Bei looked at the pitiful little Tangyuan in the corner of the sofa and was about to pick her up again when Lu Runxu pinched her chin and kissed her.

"Mrs. Lu, you haven't spoken to me all afternoon," Lu Runxu accused her.

Xing Bei met his reproachful gaze, and the words of her curse stuck in her throat: "Xiao Lu, how childish are you?"

Since Xiao Tangyuan came to their home, Xing Bei's attention has been entirely focused on her. He would look for her after finishing his work, but even his attempts to kiss her were rejected by Xing Bei.

Looking at the pitiful little dumpling on the ground, Lu Runxu was really worried about his status in Xing Bei's eyes.

Xing Bei smiled and cupped Lu Runxu's face in her hands: "Little Lu, Xiao Tangyuan is just a dog, please don't be jealous."

"I don't care." Lu Runxu looked at her arrogantly, "I must be number one in your heart."

Xing Bei smiled even more broadly: "Okay, Lu will always be number one in my heart, alright?"

Seeing that he still didn't speak, Xing Bei leaned over and kissed his face. Unexpectedly, Lu Runxu suddenly turned around, and the kiss that was originally on his face landed precisely on his lips.

Xing Bei was stunned for a moment. Before she could react, Lu Runxu held the back of her head and deepened the kiss.

The evening breeze in April was cool but not biting; it gently brushed past, carrying with it a hint of the daytime heat.

After finishing her work, Xing Bei went to the Late Spring Tavern with Chi Qingtang.

Today is Lu Runxu's birthday. Originally, they planned to spend it at home together, but Ji Youli insisted on getting together.

At the entrance of the Late Spring Tavern, Lu Runxu was waiting outside early. Lin Zhuochi, who was beside him, straightened his back immediately when he saw the familiar license plate number.

After getting out of the car, Xing Bei came to Lu Runxu with a large bouquet of blue star flowers in her arms, her eyes slightly upturned: "Mr. Lu, happy birthday."

Lu Runxu took the flowers and casually took her hand, saying, "Girlfriend, thank you for your thoughtfulness."

In the private room, besides the few people who usually hang out with Lu Runxu, there was another girl this time.

She sat next to Shang Yichen, chatting and laughing. Mu Rong noticed that she couldn't see him. When she saw the flowers in Lu Runxu's arms, she couldn't help but tease, "Ah Xu is so lucky. He even gets flowers from his wife on his birthday."

Lu Runxu glanced at him indifferently, then held Xing Bei's hand with a smug look on his face: "Don't be envious, I believe Miss Xu will also give you one."

A burst of laughter erupted around them. Among them, who didn't know that on Mu Rong's birthday, his wife not only didn't prepare a gift for him, but also went to a bar and ordered several male models?

After they found out, they mocked him in the group chat for several days, which made him so angry that he left the group.

"Sister-in-law," Mu Rong said with a smile, looking at the person next to Lu Runxu, "Don't spoil this boy. Be careful he doesn't become arrogant because of your favor. Besides, it's too pretentious for a man to receive flowers."

Xing Bei slightly curled the corners of her lips: "He won't, and there's no rule that men can't accept flowers."

Lu Runxu's smile deepened: "Mu Rong, you can't just be jealous of me because you don't have one."

Mu Rong: "...Who's jealous of you?"

Shang Yichen patted him on the shoulder: "Why do you have to make things difficult for yourself? Can A-Xu's situation be the same as yours?"

"This must be my sister-in-law." Lin Qiuwan walked directly past Lu Runxu to her side.

Before Xing Bei could react, Lin Qiuwan had already taken her arm in a familiar manner. Lu Runxu noticed her brows furrow slightly, quickly slapped her hand away, and pulled Xing Bei back.

Lin Qiuwan looked at him speechlessly, muttering under her breath, "So stingy."

She smiled and looked at Xing Bei: "Hello, sister-in-law, I am Lin Qiuwan, a friend of Lu Runxu."

"Hello, just call me Xing Bei." She still couldn't stand being called "sister-in-law," it sounded strange to her.

Lin Qiuwan moved closer to her and said, "Then I'll call you Sister Beibei."

Xing Bei nodded: "Either is fine."

"Sister Beibei, I'll take you to have some fun." With that, she took Xing Bei's arm and led her to the dance floor outside.

Chi Qingtang followed them, and Lu Runxu tried to stop them but was pulled back by Ji Youli.

Lin Zhuochi knew what he was worried about: "With Chi Qingtang around, there's no need to worry about Wanqiu running away with you."

That being said, based on his understanding of Lin Qiuwan, he still needed to be wary of her.

When they finished and went to find Xing Bei, they saw Lin Qiuwan's hands roaming around pinching Xing Bei's face. Lu Runxu walked over and directly pushed her hands away.

Looking at the person slumped over the bar, their bright cheeks were flushed with a light pink, and they were muttering to themselves. They looked rather silly and cute.

When Lin Qiuwan saw the familiar face, a smug smile spread across her face. She pointed to the faint red mark on her right cheek and said, "See that? It was kissed by my sister-in-law."

Lu Runxu gave her a cold glance, picked up the person who was lying on the bar and walked out. Shang Yichen, who was standing behind her, was sweating bullets for her.

"Little darling, you'd better take it easy." Shang Yichen went over to help her up.

Lin Qiuwan had also drunk a lot tonight and was now completely out of it. She gently patted Shang Yichen's shoulder and said, "With you here to back me up, what am I afraid of?"

Shang Yichen sighed helplessly: "You really spoil me."

After getting in the car, Lu Runxu took out a wet wipe from the side to wipe Xing Bei's mouth. Feeling uncomfortable, Xing Bei turned her head away. Lu Runxu looked at her, grabbed her chin, and wiped her mouth again.

Xing Bei struggled to open her eyes, a thin mist clouding her peach blossom eyes, and looked at the person in front of her with dissatisfaction: "It hurts so much."

Secretary Lin in front of him consciously raised the partition.

Her tone was aggrieved yet slightly coquettish. Lu Runxu looked at the thin sheen of moisture on her red lips and leaned down to kiss them.

Lu Runxu's movements were fierce and ruthless, unlike his usual gentleness. Xing Bei's hands were trapped in front of her chest, and she didn't have the strength to push him away.

The person in his arms struggled incessantly. Lu Runxu's eyes darkened slightly. He grabbed Xing Bei's hand and pinned it against the car window, then pressed it down and kissed her. Before long, tears welled up in her beautiful eyes.

Whether it was due to the alcohol or the enclosed space, Xing Bei felt her body temperature rising continuously.

Looking at the man in front of her whose eyes were slightly red, she rolled over and leaned in to kiss the corner of his lips: "Handsome, you're so good-looking, would you like to come home with me?"

Lu Runxu was amused by her sudden words, and when he met her captivating peach blossom eyes, a meaningful smile appeared on his lips.

He leaned back lazily in his chair, his eyes innocent, and said, "Sister, won't your husband be angry if you take me back?"

Xing Bei loved that look in his eyes. Her slender, white fingertips brushed across his cheek, and she leaned in to whisper in his ear, "If you don't tell him, he won't know."

"But I'm scared," Lu Runxu continued to tempt her.

Xing Bei kissed the corner of his lips: "Don't worry, my husband has a good temper and a broad mind, he won't make things difficult for you."

Hearing this, Lu Runxu's lips twitched in anger. He hadn't expected her to be so shrewd, despite her usual serious demeanor. He had underestimated her.

He grabbed Xing Bei by the back of the head, kissing her as he said, "Then you must protect me well, sister."

Xing Bei felt uncomfortable from his kisses, so she supported herself on Lu Runxu's shoulders and straddled him. Lu Runxu put his arm around her waist and pulled her closer.

After an unknown amount of time, a tear rolled down Xing Bei's cheek. Lu Runxu kissed her eyes, straightened her disheveled skirt, and then carried her out of the car.

Back in the room, with a "click," before the light could even be turned on, Lu Runxu's passionate kisses covered her again. Her thin back pressed against the cold wall, sending shivers down her spine.

Xing Bei put her hand on Lu Runxu's shoulder, and with a movement of her feet, she accidentally touched the switch, and the lights instantly turned on.

The intense light stung Xing Bei's eyes, and she instinctively lowered her head. Lu Runxu, breathing heavily, buried his head in the crook of Xing Bei's neck.

"elder sister."

After fussing around at the door for a while, Xing Bei's mind had cleared up considerably. When she heard Lu Runxu's alluring "older sister" address, her face instantly burned.

"Sister." Lu Runxu looked up at her and continued to call out.

Xing Bei knew perfectly well what that "sister" meant. She had felt the warmth in the car and leaned over to kiss the corner of his lips.

"Then we'll sleep with meat today."
