Chapter 146: Little Treasure Running Around

"It says here that the household registration system will be implemented from now on."

We must also strictly investigate all unidentified people.

She didn't say the second half of the sentence. Although she had lived in the Zhang family for some time, she was essentially a person of unknown identity to them.

"That should be a routine statistics by the government. It's always a good thing. Since the immortal appeared in Daqin last year, everything the government does is good." Zhang Yiyi thought for a while and said.

Of course, Zhao Tuo had been collecting taxes for a long time, and everyone knew what was going on.

"I heard that the immortals will give me the magic medicine that can cure my disease."

"I'm really curious about what an immortal looks like. If I could see him, I would definitely ask him to cure Xiaobao's illness." Zhang Yiyi spoke in a disjointed manner, her tone full of piety.

Li Rongrong, who was originally arranging the quilt that had just been hung out to dry today, paused. She had never expected that the news of immortals would spread so widely. It really caught her off guard.

"Rongrong, have you ever seen what an immortal looks like?"

Li Rongrong laughed awkwardly and said, "Ah, how could I have seen him before?"

...

...

I haven't seen it, except in the mirror.

After making a few slanderous remarks in her heart, she changed the subject and said, "Yiyi, why don't you go check on Xiaobao? How come I haven't heard anything from him right now?"

When Xiaobao was mentioned, the topic changed smoothly. Zhang Yiyi frowned and felt a little worried. "Then I'll go see Xiaobao."

"Xiaobao?"

Zhang Yiyi called out several times but Zhang Xiaobao was nowhere to be found. Then, Mrs. Gu heard the voice and came out, "Mrs. Zhang, are you looking for Xiaobao? At that time, Xiaobao and Dazhuang from my family were playing at the entrance of the alley. It's been a while since they've been like that."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Yiyi unconsciously quickened her pace and felt an inexplicable sense of uneasiness in her heart.

"Xiaobao, Xiaobao! Where are you?" Zhang Yiyi's voice echoed in the alley, with a bit of anxiety and helplessness.

Her eyes searched every possible corner, afraid of missing any clues.

Hearing the noise, Li Rongrong also joined the search.

Mrs. Gu was also panicked for a while when she couldn't find Dazhuang and Xiaobao.

Then, the three of them dispersed in different directions, leaving only the sound of their footsteps echoing in the narrow alley.

"Could it be that they went to the back mountain?" Li Rongrong remembered that Dabao had always wanted to go to the back mountain with them to collect herbs, but she had never taken him with her because of her poor health.

The child is very curious, so he might run to the back mountain by himself.

"By the way, Da Zhuang also said something about treasure hunting in the back mountain. Maybe he took Xiaobao to the back mountain." Mrs. Gu's face turned pale when she heard this.

Zhang Yiyi's heart suddenly tightened. When she heard that Xiaobao might have gone to the back mountain, her face turned pale instantly.

There are many unknown dangers hidden in the back mountain at night, especially for young children like Xiaobao.

"Back mountain? Why did they go there?" Zhang Yiyi asked anxiously, with a hint of blame in her tone, but more of concern for Xiaobao's safety.

Mrs. Gu was also angry and worried. "Damn it, Da Zhuang is usually naughty. I don't know what happened today. He just ran around!"

"Yiyi, don't worry, let's go to the back mountain to look for it together."

Zhang Yiyi nodded, and the two of them quickly packed up and hurried along the path leading to the back mountain.

On the way, Zhang Yiyi kept calling Xiaobao's name, hoping that he could hear and respond.

The back mountain is not far away, but the mountain road is rugged and overgrown with weeds, which makes finding a job quite difficult.

Zhang Yiyi and Li Rongrong carefully avoided thorns and traps, and listened carefully to the movements around them, for fear of missing any clues about Xiaobao.

After nightfall, Longchuan Township seems to be shrouded in a mysterious veil.

Yi Xusong, along with a group of strong men, quietly left the village where they stayed. They walked under the moonlight, along the winding mountain road, heading towards Longchuan County.

The moonlight shone on the rugged mountain road. Yi Yusong walked in front. They hid in a dense forest and walked along the mountain road to avoid the patrols of the Qin soldiers.

Meanwhile, Xiao Bao was alone, looking extremely small and helpless in the dense mountains behind.

The surrounding trees are towering into the sky, and the faint light shining through the branches and leaves shines mottled on the ground, as if adding a bit of weirdness to this deep forest.

Xiaobao's heart was beating fast and he took every step carefully, for fear of disturbing some unknown creature.

He recalled the time when he came here with his brother Dazhuang. At first he just followed Dazhuang to play at the entrance of the alley, but he was inexplicably dragged to explore with several other children to look for the so-called "treasure".

But as time went on, Xiaobao began to feel uneasy. He pulled his brother Dazhuang to go back, but Dazhuang and the other children kept making excuses saying, "We will arrive just a little further."

Just now he accidentally stepped on empty air and rolled down to who knows where. Xiaobao has completely lost his way, and Dazhuang and the other children don't know where they went.

He could only stand there. It was quiet all around him, with only the occasional chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the wind.

Xiaobao's heart was filled with fear, but he knew he couldn't give up like that and he had to find a way home.

His sister is still waiting for him, and he won’t run around anymore!

Zhang Xiaobao plucked up his courage and decided to walk in one direction, hoping to meet someone or find a familiar sign. However, the terrain of the back mountain was complicated, and Xiaobao stumbled and almost fell in the weeds several times.

He was so tired that he was out of breath, but he still didn't dare to stop to rest, for fear that if he stopped he would never find the courage to go home.

Just then, Xiaobao suddenly heard a burst of light footsteps coming from the front.

His heart tightened and he immediately stopped and hid behind a big tree, carefully observing the front through the gaps in the leaves.

I saw several burly men walking quietly along the mountain road, with vigilant looks on their faces.

Xiaobao felt panic in his heart, he realized that he might be in danger.

He thought about turning around and running away, but his feet felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead and he couldn't take a step.

In these deep mountains and forests, a child like me could never outrun these adults.

Just then, one of the aggressive old men seemed to have discovered Xiaobao's trace.

He stopped suddenly and looked in the direction where Xiaobao was hiding with wide eyes.

Xiao Bao was so frightened that he trembled all over and almost cried out. But unexpectedly, the strong man did not rush up to grab him immediately, but winked at his companions, signaling them to come over.

Xiao Bao was even more uneasy. He didn't know what these strong men were going to do. But at this moment, one of the strong men spoke up: "Boy, do you live nearby?"

Xiaobao nodded tremblingly, not daring to look them in the eyes.

"Okay," the sturdy man sneered, "Then you can lead us to a way. We want to go down the mountain to Longchuan County. If you can lead us to a way, I will spare your life."
