Chapter 20: Sympathy
In the study.
It was pouring outside the floor-to-ceiling window. The overwhelming rain hit the glass heavily, and the accumulated massive water curtain made everything blurred.
"Yuan Shuang said that you don't plan to get married in this life. Is this true?"
Old Zhou's face was tense and cold, as if covered with a layer of frost.
Zhou Tingyun was planning to go downstairs to get a glass of ice water, but was called into the study in the corridor.
Hearing this question, he admitted it frankly.
Mr. Zhou stared in disbelief, "Do you know what you are saying?"
He is the eldest grandson of the Zhou family and the heir of the Zhou family, yet he wants to remain single for the rest of his life?
"You have more than one grandson." The man reacted calmly to his emotional outburst.
"What's the reason?" Old Master Zhou couldn't understand, frowning, "The reason why you don't get married."
He didn't understand why his eldest grandson, whom he had high hopes for, would have such a rebellious idea.
"You said you don't accept arranged marriages? Fine, just marry any woman you like. What do you mean by not getting married? Are you going to be a bachelor your whole life? How can you be worthy of the ancestors of the Zhou family?"
Zhou Tingyun: "If you really have nothing to do, I can open a matchmaking agency for you."
As soon as those harmless words came out, Mr. Zhou got so angry that he had a heart attack.
He really didn't understand. His grandson was perfect in every way, but he was a complete wasteland in terms of love. He couldn't even get a wife at his age! And he was still practicing some nonsense about not getting married!
I was already annoyed by not having an arranged marriage, and I finally accepted the fact that I couldn't gain more benefits from the arranged marriage. But now, people don't even want to get married.
He was only 18 and he already kissed his wife on the mouth. What a shame!
At this point, Mr. Zhou suddenly thought of something.
His face changed drastically.
Although he disliked Zhou Tingyun, he reluctantly admitted that he had some of the charm he had when he was young, and was definitely the type that girls would always like.
"Honestly, you...you..."
Mr. Zhou felt like he needed a quick-acting heart pill. "Do you like men?"
He is a traditional man and would never accept that his grandson likes men!
Zhou Tingyun raised his eyebrows slightly in surprise.
"You're quite fashionable," he said.
"If that makes it easier for you to think of it that way."
Hearing this, Mr. Zhou immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
That’s good, it’s easy then.
He advised with the attitude of a person who has experienced it, "Before I met your grandmother, I had the same idea as you. You just haven't met someone you like yet."
"It's better to get married early, you..."
Zhou Tingyun didn't want to argue and said calmly, "There won't be anyone who likes me."
What kind of words are you talking about?!
The old man was about to get angry again and was about to slam the table when his hand accidentally bumped into something that felt hard and cold.
Looking down, I saw the rosewood scroll box lying there quietly.
This was the birthday gift given to him by the little girl Ming Zhao, his favorite ancient scroll to collect.
Her pretty face appeared in his mind, and Mr. Zhou suddenly understood something and said helplessly.
"Even if you get married, you won't be delayed in taking care of that girl. Besides, wouldn't it be better for her to have another sister-in-law? They get along better than you do..."
"It has nothing to do with her." Zhou Tingyun interrupted in a deep voice with a stern expression.
As soon as the words fell, the air seemed to freeze and there was silence for a moment.
Mr. Zhou was a shrewd man who had been immersed in the business world for many years. He keenly heard the coldness in his tone, which was a subconscious protection.
When he saw the way the brother and sister got along, he vaguely sensed that something was wrong, and at this moment, this feeling of something wrong was gradually growing.
Mr. Zhou's face turned really cold, and his solemn expression was filled with a bit of majesty and questioning.
"You'd better know what you're doing, Zhou Tingyun. You're her brother, you..."
Zhou Tingyun's eyebrows did not move. "I know."
He did not keep his distance from Ming Zhao, so it was not surprising that he was guessed.
The next second, there was a muffled bang.
"Damn it!"
The porcelain cup hit him on the forehead and then shattered on the ground.
"She is only twenty-one, and you are already twenty-nine!" Old Master Zhou threw a porcelain cup but still not satisfied, he wished he could whip the person awake with a rattan stick.
"You're deceiving me, you know that?!"
As proud as he was of his grandson, he is now as disappointed.
I didn't expect that such a sinister intention was hidden under this decent appearance.
Zhou Tingyun stood there quietly without explaining himself. His behavior had often been inappropriate, and what he was thinking was even more unspeakable.
A gentleman is judged by deeds, not by his heart, and he did not do any of them.
Even if he planned to remain single for the rest of his life and just wait for her to marry someone worthy, he still couldn't bring himself to avoid her contact.
Old Zhou looked at the blood slowly flowing down his forehead, and felt anxious and angry for a moment. How could such a scum come out of their Zhou family?
It is so easy for older people to deceive young girls who are inexperienced in the world.
They have enough experience, mature and steady appearance, and the natural trust that comes with being brothers is enough to make the young girl, who is not very worldly-wise, give her heart to them.
Ming Zheng adopted him out of kindness, how could he?
Mr. Zhou tried hard to calm his surging emotions and took a deep breath.
"Tell me the truth, what do you think of Ming Zhao?"
It is both a warning and a reminder.
Heavy rain washed against the windows, and the whole city was shrouded in a heavy curtain of rain.
Zhou Siyu stopped Ming Zhao in the corridor and eagerly pulled her towards the study, "Grandpa and Brother Tingyun seemed to have had an argument, and the servants said they even smashed things.
ah?
Ming Zhao looked confused. Smashing things?
This is not Zhou Tingyun's style.
It was hard to imagine him smashing things in anger, so Ming Zhao became curious and followed Zhou Siyu to the door of the study room out of curiosity.
The door was not closed tightly, and the wind blew it open a crack, making a creaking sound that was inexplicably terrifying in the quiet atmosphere.
She looked inside and her pupils shrank slightly.
Just as she was about to push the door open, Zhou Siyu grabbed her and said, "What are you doing?"
Ming Zhao was anxious and struggled, "Let me go! How could he hit my brother with a cup? Even Mommy has never hit him!"
The scene just now was too shocking. Blood beads slid from the corner of his eyebrows across half of his face, and broken porcelain pieces were scattered on the ground. She could hardly believe it.
Zhou Siyu just wanted Mingzhao to realize that his existence was hindering Zhou Tingyun's marriage, but she didn't expect that the subsequent situation would become so serious. Her grandfather was so angry that he hit someone with a cup.
She couldn't let Ming Zhao go in and bear his grandfather's anger, which held her very tightly.
Ming Zhao didn't understand why Zhou Siyu, who looked so weak, was so strong!
"Tell me the truth, what do you think of Ming Zhao?"
The two of them stopped dragging each other.
Why does she have anything to do with their quarrel?
Ming Zhao pricked up his ears in confusion.
Time passed, the second hand ticked around, the sound of heavy rain seemed to gradually become distant, leaving only the quiet rising and falling of breathing.
"Just a sister," he said.
As soon as the words fell, the rumbling thunder seemed to split the sky open.
Lightning streaked across the dark night sky, illuminating Ming Zhao's worried frowning face.
Through the door, the moment a cold voice sounded, Zhou Siyu looked at Ming Zhao with sympathy in her eyes.
