Chapter 139 Going to the Cafeteria
Huo Zhenhua came prepared.
He picked up his lunchbox, not forgetting to hold Su Meng's in his hand, and strode out first with his long legs, saying, "Let's go! I haven't eaten at the research institute's cafeteria yet."
Su Meng stared in disbelief at the tall figure in front of her, then jogged to catch up and tugged at his sleeve. "You've come to have dinner with me?"
Huo Zhenhua glanced at her sideways. "Of course! Isn't it normal for me to have dinner with my partner?"
The heat that had just subsided on Su Meng's face rose again.
She gave him a shy glare and whispered, "Aren't you afraid people will talk?"
In China, the serious and simple social atmosphere means that a couple in love will be as proper as possible in public. Even when they are eating together, they will sit across from each other at the table and steal glances at one another.
Few people are as carefree as Huo Zhenhua, unafraid of others' opinions, and deliberately stop to wait for her to walk side by side.
As they walked, his sleeves brushed against hers, and sometimes their arms would touch, the military green and white colors overlapping, an indescribable intimacy.
Huo Zhenhua remained unfazed and said seriously, "What's there to be afraid of? We're having a serious relationship, it's not a violation of the rules."
Su Meng's lips twitched. "You're right about everything."
Now that they had confirmed their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, Su Meng didn't hesitate any longer.
She walked confidently beside Huo Zhenhua and chatted with him quietly.
Upon arriving at the cafeteria, Huo Zhenhua glanced around, then pulled out a long wooden bench. "Sit down first, I'll get the food."
Before Su Meng could speak, he took their lunchboxes and walked towards the window.
Su Meng awkwardly took back the receipt she had taken out, thinking she would give it to him when he returned.
My gaze shifted and I saw Huang Huaiying sitting three tables away.
Opposite her was a gay man wearing glasses.
Just as she hesitated whether to go up and greet her, Huang Huaiying spoke first, "Comrade Su Meng, you finally remembered you wanted to eat?"
Because of her shout, everyone in the cafeteria turned to look at her.
Su Meng gave an awkward smile and explained, "Uh! I wasn't hungry then. Hello!"
The man adjusted his glasses, seemingly a little shy, and his face quickly turned red. "Hello!"
His voice was uneven, with highs and lows.
A flicker of...panic? flashed in his eyes.
Su Meng was surprised by this word that suddenly appeared.
But she trusted her intuition; the man did indeed panic when he saw her.
His eyes darted around, his eyelids drooped rapidly, and he turned his head as if he had seen a ghost, desperately trying to run away.
She was certain she had never seen him before, so why would he give her this impression?
Su Meng frowned, one hand resting on the table, the other propping up her cheek as she stared at the ceiling, her focus unfocused.
What are you looking at?
Huo Zhenhua walked over carrying two lunch boxes. Seeing Su Meng looking dazed, he leaned closer and asked.
Su Meng snapped out of her daze and handed him the receipts, saying, "Let's eat first."
Huo Zhenhua grabbed her finger as she tried to pull away, looking at her sternly, "Do we need to be so clear about things? Take it back!"
Su Meng glanced down at the two hands clasped under the table, her little hands twitched slightly, and the corners of her mouth curled up slightly.
This cunning man is taking advantage of the situation!
He seriously told her to take it back, but he wouldn't let go of her hand. What was he trying to do?
"Why don't you just sit there! Look at everyone else, they're all sitting facing each other, is this... okay?"
The experience of cutting off the capitalist tail left Su Meng with a shadow, fearing that they might cross some red line and be demoted or something.
Huo Zhenhua sighed and released her. "Xiao Meng, don't panic. Our relationship is perfectly normal."
If you're not comfortable with that, I'll go back and file for marriage.
Su Meng rolled her eyes at him.
She had reason to suspect that he was taking the opportunity to file for marriage.
"No! Move over a bit, they're all watching."
The man sat next to her, their arms touching.
His knees were pressed together under the table.
His scent kept seeping into her pores, burning her skin until it turned red.
Her ears were red, and her face was even redder!
She awkwardly moved towards the wall, then found herself with nowhere to go and couldn't help but protest.
He turned around and saw Huang Huaiying secretly laughing.
Su Meng blushed and awkwardly picked up her chopsticks, only to see Huang Huaiying give her a thumbs up.
She was so embarrassed that she almost buried her head in the lunchbox.
He said softly, "Eat quickly!"
Eat and leave, so as not to be stared at like a monkey.
Huo Zhenhua stood ramrod straight, maintaining the smile on his face without changing expression, and forcefully stuffed the skinless chicken leg into the gap between Su Meng's cheek and the lunchbox.
"Xiaomeng, eat your food properly."
He raised his hand and gently patted Su Meng's back. "Do you need me to feed you?"
He spoke threateningly with a straight face, chewing his food silently, but that didn't stop him from eating quickly.
Su Meng picked up a chicken leg, turned her head to look at Huo Zhenhua, and said, "How do you still remember that I don't eat chicken skin?"
Huo Zhenhua raised an eyebrow. "I remember all your preferences. And this piece too, finish it all."
Seeing him pick up another piece of braised pork with the fat removed, Su Meng protested softly, "I can't eat this much."
Huo Zhenhua leaned over and turned his head to the side, "Finish eating! I picked at my food before eating, there's no saliva on it."
Su Meng: "......"
Just as she was about to retort, Huang Huaiying and the man walked over together.
Huang Huaiying greeted him with a smile, "Comrade Su Meng, is this your boyfriend? He's really handsome!"
Huo Zhenhua has striking features, with sharp eyebrows and bright eyes. Sitting there upright, he is more than just "handsome" in comparison.
Su Meng smiled and nodded, introducing him with grace and poise, "Yes! His name is Huo Zhenhua, and he's from our military region."
This is Comrade Huang Huaiying, one of only two other women in our institute.
Huo Zhenhua stood up and greeted Huang Huaiying, "Hello, Comrade Huang! Hello, Comrade Huang! I am Huo Zhenhua, Xiaomeng's boyfriend. Thank you, Comrade Huang, for your concern for Xiaomeng last time, thank you!"
He didn't miss the scrutiny and inquiry in the man's eyes, and smiled faintly.
"Don't mention it! It's only right for colleagues to help each other." Huang Huaiying then introduced, "This is my boyfriend, Comrade Gu Yicheng."
The four chatted for a few more minutes before Huang Huaiying and the other person left.
Su Meng watched their disappearing figures, lost in thought.
"What's wrong with you?" Huo Zhenhua waved his hand in front of her eyes and leaned closer to look at her with amusement.
A look of confusion lingered in her soft, moist eyes.
She thought to herself, "No wonder Gu Yicheng panicked when he saw me."
She suddenly remembered that Gu Yicheng resembled someone who had once followed her in Shanghai.
The mole at the corner of their eyes is exactly the same.
She had just returned to Shanghai and emptied the Su Mansion; she was eager to cash out those savings accounts.
But to his surprise, he was followed as soon as he stepped out onto the street.
As she came out of the clothing store, she came face to face with the man who was holding a newspaper and wearing sunglasses.
She clearly remembered the tiny black mole, the size of a pinhead, at the corner of the man's eye.
Could it really be that person?
She wasn't sure.
After all, the stalker was wearing sunglasses, and half of his face was covered by a newspaper.
Huo Zhenhua was suddenly jolted, and a warning bell rang in his heart.
If Su Meng's guess is true, then this person cannot be allowed to live.
He reached out and took Su Meng's small hand in his, stroking the back of her hand a few times, and said softly, "Let's eat first. If anything happens, tell me when we get back, okay?"
Su Meng snapped out of her daze and marveled at his keen observation skills.
If this person is the stalker, he might still be after the Su family's wealth.
She had to go back and tell her father.
