Chapter 20 Schemes

Chapter 20 Schemes

"Wasn't Zhong Wanrou locked up for having an affair?" Nie Pingting asked in confusion.

Su Meng shook her head to indicate that she didn't know, and could only sigh inwardly at how lucky she was, getting away with it even after being caught having an affair.

Zhong Wanrou stood at the street corner across the street, looking rather furtive.

She was still dressed impeccably.

Wearing a white, ruffled polyester dress with a yellow embroidered buckle around the waist, paired with delicate white leather shoes, she looked fresh and beautiful.

She was just missing the expensive accessories she was wearing.

At first glance, she still gives off the vibe of the eldest daughter of the Su family.

"Wanrou, I'm sorry! I'm too weak to avenge you. Look, I'm injured myself too."

Hu Wangqing held up his injured hands, looking at Zhong Wanrou with a pitiful expression.

Zhong Wanrou held her finger with heartache, examining it closely, and even bent down to blow on it. "Oh dear! It's bleeding. Let's go to the hospital first."

"Wanrou, you're so kind! That little bitch still has money to eat at state-run restaurants, so she must have stolen from your house."

"Stop talking! If she hears me, she'll punish me again."

Su Meng sneered. So this was how Zhong Wanrou had been slandering her reputation behind her back.

Was she too merciful to her enemies, thus giving them the opportunity to humiliate her?

Then, remembering how easily Nie Pingting recognized Zhong Wanrou, she asked curiously, "How did you get to know Zhong Wanrou?"

Nie Pingting shrugged. "Last year on my grandma's birthday, she and your dad, uh, that fake guy, came to celebrate together."

So there was another song like that.

However, given Shen Wuyang's scheming and unscrupulous nature, he certainly wouldn't let go of the opportunity to climb up to the Nie family.

"My grandmother gave her a bracelet as a gift, but for some reason, my uncle accidentally broke it."

Later, she asked her uncle for a small pendant as compensation.

Upon hearing this, a thought flashed through Su Meng's mind, and she asked, "What kind of pendant? Is it teardrop-shaped?"

Nie Pingting exclaimed in surprise, "How did you know? It's a teardrop-shaped pendant."

She felt wronged at the time.

The bracelet that Grandma gave me was naturally very valuable; the little pendant was even smaller than my little finger.

Later, feeling bad, Grandma gave her a red envelope.

Su Meng didn't pay attention to what she said afterward, but when she realized that the teardrop-shaped pendant on Zhong Wanrou's body was given to her by Nie Ronghua, she felt uneasy.

She didn't know if there were any tokens between them, given that they were betrothed as children.

But the gift her mother left her for her eighteenth birthday was a teardrop-shaped pendant.

Coincidentally, Nie Ronghua also has a teardrop-shaped pendant.

Furthermore, the two water droplet pendants were able to merge into the current space; she simply couldn't believe that they were unrelated.

Fortunately, she received two pendants in advance.

Even if Zhong Wanrou knew that the teardrop-shaped pendant could transform into a magical space, she was powerless to do anything about it, and she had no evidence to prove that Su Meng possessed a space.

She could only doubt, doubt to the point of madness.

Zhong Wanrou was genuinely suspicious.

She instigated Hu Wangqing and others to provoke Su Meng, just to test her.

But Su Meng is no longer the Su Meng of the past; she will unleash her full power at the slightest disagreement.

These pampered young ladies were no match for her at all.

"Wanrou, how did you know Su Meng had money?"

She was homeless and had no relatives or friends, so she couldn't hide any money she had.

Or should we get some thugs to teach her a lesson? Ouch!

Hu Wangqing looked at Su Meng's hands, which were wrapped up like a rice dumpling, with tears in his eyes. He was filled with rage and wished he could tear Su Meng to pieces.

She had never fallen so embarrassingly in front of everyone as she had today.

Ugh! How could she be so vicious?

To disfigure someone is tantamount to murdering their parents or cutting off their money.

She and Su Meng were sworn enemies.

Zhong Wanrou glanced at her contorted face and gently comforted her, "Xiaoqing, don't worry about anything else for now. Let's heal our injuries first."

Upon hearing this, Hu Wangqing became even more agitated.

“I clearly felt someone trip me. Tell me, I have no grudge against anyone else, so who else could have done this to me besides her?”

"Then let's call the police."

Zhong Cuilin and Shen Wuyang entered the police station one after the other. Inspired, Zhong Wanrou also decided to call the police.

"However, we need evidence first."

Hu Wangqing shook his head in disappointment, "The crowd has dispersed now, there's no evidence left."

"Hmph! I'm not a coward like Xiaoyu, who wouldn't dare fight back after being hit. Just you wait!"

Her father was a member of the harvesting committee, and her mother was the deputy director of a textile factory.

She was pampered and spoiled growing up, never having her wishes fulfilled, nor suffering any hardship.

"Isn't she a member of the Su family who slipped through the net? We, the concerned citizens, should rid the people of this scourge and share the burden of those in power."

Wanrou, do you think it's better for her to be sent to the countryside or to a lower-level administrative region?

Zhong Wanrou gently straightened her clothes and said casually, "She is an international student, so she really needs to be properly educated."

I heard that her maternal grandfather disappeared when the movement started.

Do you think there might be something fishy going on here?

"Hmph! Whether she has or not, she should be reformed. Who knows if she has been turned abroad?"

Do you know where she lives now?

"It must be at his maternal grandfather's house, which is very close to yours."

Su Meng was naturally unaware of Hu Wangqing and Zhong Wanrou's scheme.

However, her rapid, unbridled growth over the past decade has long since instilled in her a cautious and vengeful nature.

Hu Wangqing and Zhong Wanrou plotted against her today, and she decided to find time to meet them.

But she was completely unfamiliar with Shanghai, as if she were blind.

Fortunately, she has Zhong Wanrou's things in her space, so finding Hu Wangqing's house shouldn't be too difficult.

"Sister Su, what are you worried about?" Her brows were furrowed so deeply they could trap a mosquito.

Su Meng snapped out of her daze and smiled at the "good place" Nie Pingting had mentioned. "How did you find this place? I didn't even know there was such a big scrap yard in the south of the city."

Nie Pingting: "I came here once before the Lunar New Year with my uncle. After learning that you hadn't returned to China, we spent a few days sightseeing in Shanghai."

As she spoke, she leaned closer, "There are good things at the junkyard!"

She blinked and pulled a red string from around her neck, with a jade ring of emerald green strung on it. "I had it appraised; it's a fine piece from the Tang Dynasty."

This is what is known as finding a bargain.

Su Meng immediately became interested.

"What are you waiting for? Let's go!"

There is only one old man working at the scrap yard.

He kept everything in perfect order, with no unpleasant odors whatsoever.

There are many large items inside, such as old furniture, which are usually things that came out of the homes of those whose houses were raided, or some waste from factories.

There are almost no small items like those Nie Pingting mentioned.

Su Meng glanced at it briefly and walked towards a pile of scrap paper in the corner.

She picked out several bound volumes of daily newspapers from different periods and unexpectedly found some textbooks and teaching materials.

Huh? There's even a doctor's notebook with its cover covered in mud.

After flipping through just a few pages, Su Meng was captivated by his treatment methods that combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

"Sister Su, you like reading? But I just can't concentrate on reading. I like playing, hehe!"

"I'm just killing time."

Su Meng quickly wrapped the notebook in a newspaper and also selected several books about medicinal herb cultivation with yellowed and torn pages.

Nie Pingting wasn't interested in the books she had chosen, and pointed to the furniture on the other side, saying, "I'll go take a look over there."

Su Meng thought she was just being childish, wanting more after getting a good deal once.

"Be careful."

After giving her instructions, she continued to rummage through the old books. With her sharp eyes, she caught a glimpse of the three characters "Su Mianzhi" on the cover of one of the books in the pile that had fallen over.

She paused for a moment, then carefully flipped out the book—"Tang Poetry and Song Lyrics".

It contains annotations and notes written by Su Mianzhi, stroke by stroke.

Su Meng curiously flipped through the pages, and her pupils contracted sharply when she saw a piece of paper tucked inside.
