Chapter 88 Huo Zhenhua, dead!
It was rare for Commander Tang to be so gossipy, but on one side was Huo Zhenhua, who was deeply in love with Su Meng, and on the other side was her childhood sweetheart, Nie Ronghua, both of whom were his capable subordinates.
Su Meng was a talent he personally recruited.
He didn't want the three of them to have any unpleasantness.
Although Grandma Su made it clear that she couldn't afford to associate with the Nie family, it didn't represent the thoughts of the younger generation.
He wanted to hear Su Meng say it with his own ears.
Su Meng's smile faded slightly, and she tilted her head to look at Commander Tang suspiciously. "Commander, are you related to the Nie family?"
Commander Tang: ? ? ?
He said he couldn't quite keep up with Su Meng's train of thought.
"no!"
Su Meng smiled and said, "I thought you were a relative of his and wanted to put in a good word for him."
As he spoke, he sat up straighter. "The betrothal was an agreement made orally by the older generation. We were unaware of it, had never met the children, and had no interest in them."
Hearing this, Commander Tang breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good! You all handle it well and don't let it interfere with your work."
"yes!"
As Su Meng stepped out of the office building, she felt a great weight lifted off her shoulders. She had a feeling that Commander Tang's words had a hidden meaning, but the thought of the assets that were about to return filled her with joy.
Even their walking has a rhythm, light and lively.
Huo Zhenhua had just returned from a mission and had a day off.
He came out of his office, intending to go to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some groceries to deliver to Su Meng's home, when he saw Su Meng coming out of Commander Tang's office from afar.
Judging from the curve of her ponytail swaying, you can tell she's in a good mood.
He waited quietly under the shade of the trees downstairs, his dark eyes fixed on the stairwell of the office building, standing there like a statue waiting for its wife.
The slightly upturned corners of her mouth softened the coldness of her military uniform, making her look both tough and gentle.
It is more eye-catching than its former cold and aloof demeanor.
Everyone who passed by couldn't help but stare.
"Commander Huo, are you waiting for someone?"
Huo Zhenhua's high and sharp eyebrows exude an aura of authority and pressure.
His gaze swept over the soldier, startling him. The soldier immediately straightened his uniform and strode away with upright posture.
The other soldiers nearby were about to ask questions in surprise when someone whispered a reminder: "Hurry up! Be careful, Commander Huo might be using a smokescreen. He might be enforcing discipline."
Huo Zhenhua remained noncommittal, his expression indifferent.
As Su Meng left the office building, she looked in surprise at the soldiers marching in perfect formation, their postures upright. She remembered Commander Tang telling her to learn the standard military salute from Regiment Commander Huo, and a shiver ran through her.
It would be better to tie her up and make her stand facing the wall in repentance than to make her walk so rigidly.
"Commander Huo!"
Huo Zhenhua, dressed in military uniform, stood tall and strong under the shade of the tree, making him hard to ignore.
She jogged over, a faint smile on her face.
Perhaps she herself didn't realize that she had a natural sense of intimacy with Huo Zhenhua.
Just like a puppy seeing its owner, it feels fear and awe, but it can't help but want to go to them.
Huo Zhenhua looked at the person who came, his heart warmed, and he subconsciously took a step back towards her. His expression was cold, but his eyes were warm as spring, and his smile almost overflowed.
"Xiaomeng, I heard you're moving dorms today. Shall I come help you?"
Xie Mian's small courtyard only has three main rooms and one kitchen.
Now that Su Mianzhi and Ada have joined the family, the house is no longer big enough.
When Su Meng arrived at work early in the morning, the first thing she did was ask Director Jiang for a dormitory room.
Fortunately, the gun research institute had a large area, few people, and many vacant rooms.
She was assigned a single dormitory room as she wished.
Hearing him say that, Su Meng readily agreed, "Great! As long as it doesn't interfere with your work, I'd love to."
There's free labor available, so why not take advantage of it?
She had just returned from abroad and had a general understanding of the country's situation, but she didn't know much about some of the customs and details, nor did she have time to learn more about them.
For example, in terms of local customs and the strict separation of men and women, she lacked the shyness and bashfulness typical of a native-born Chinese girl.
She felt that Huo Zhenhua, who was not sarcastic, was an expert in firearms and life, and was also upright, calm, and reliable, making him a good friend.
Along the way, Huo Zhenhua took special care of her pace, accompanying her at a leisurely pace and introducing her to the places they passed.
"This is a residential compound for family members, all of them are independent courtyards, and the environment is quite nice!"
He pointed to a newly renovated courtyard at the very back and said with a smile, "That's our deputy commander's new home. He went to the front line of flood control right after getting married."
Just as he finished speaking, Wang Qinglin came out of the courtyard with two soldiers.
"Commander, Comrade Su, are you here to choose a family compound?" Wang Qinglin noticed Su Meng's confusion and wanted to help his commander develop a relationship with her, so he deliberately pointed to a compound next to them, "Come on! There's one here, and its former owner has kept it very well."
"Commander, I'll bring some men to help you clean up right away."
Su Meng looked up at Huo Zhenhua, somewhat bewildered. "Commander Huo, my dormitory is over at the research institute. Please tell them not to waste their time."
Huo Zhenhua had been observing Su Meng's reaction ever since Wang Qinglin spoke, and saw that she was as aloof and indifferent as ever, without the slightest hint of shyness.
I was thinking that I should push her a little.
He leaned down and looked at her, his dark eyes gazing into hers. His hands, hanging at his sides, clenched nervously, and his voice was low, "Xiao Meng, what do you think if we both live here?"
Without even thinking, Su shook her head firmly, "No way! If you do that, you'll have even less chance of finding a partner."
Commander Huo, I know you want to take care of me, but I can't hold you back.
I'm not afraid of living in the dorms; I'm used to it.
He's a grown man in his mid-twenties, so he's bound to be eager to find a wife.
How could it be proper for her, the niece of one of his comrades, to live in his house?
She would never do anything to ruin someone's marriage.
After hearing her heartfelt words, Huo Zhenhua felt a bitter taste in his mouth. His jawline tightened, and his facial muscles twitched uncontrollably.
Is she disgusted by his age, or is his behavior not obvious enough?
He just didn't understand how a quick-witted, calm, and intelligent girl like her could be so difficult to seduce.
Huo Zhenhua sighed heavily, resting a fist on his chin, his dark eyes fixed intently on Su Meng as he asked seriously, "Xiao Meng, have you ever been in a relationship?"
At this time, smoke rose from every household's chimney, and the road was quiet with no pedestrians.
Su Meng could clearly feel the hot breath he sprayed on her cheek as he leaned in to speak. She subconsciously took a step back and glared at him angrily. "Did my uncle send you to gather information?"
Huo Zhenhua has passed away.
How did her little brain grow like that?
How could it be misinterpreted like this?
He nodded in agreement, wanting to see if she was faking it or genuinely clueless.
Su Meng was already afraid of Huo Zhenhua.
But Huo Zhenhua was a kind person who helped her find her father and carried him on his back without any disgust, for which she was grateful.
Because of this, she felt embarrassed to get angry at him or be annoyed by his rudeness.
Even so, she didn't dare to meet his gaze easily, for fear of his dark eyes and the rapidly spinning vortex within them that could captivate and enchant.
That vortex, if you stare at it for too long, will make your heart tremble.
She lowered her head like a quail, staring at her toes, as honest as a primary school student facing their homeroom teacher, "I didn't!"
"I wish I had Sun Wukong's extraordinary abilities, so I could create one clone to read books and another to make money. But I don't have the time for that!"
Upon hearing this, Huo Zhenhua looked at her porcelain-white and beautiful profile, and gently stroked her hair with his large hand. "You don't have to work so hard anymore! You can come to me if you need anything."
But Su Meng's next words almost caused him to die of a heart attack.
