Chapter 19 Hoarding and Shopping Spree

The people behind Shu Ying nodded in agreement upon hearing this.

"Yes, most of us don't get to eat meat more than a few times a year. When we do crave it, we have to eat fatty meat."

"Those spare ribs and tenderloin are not only skinny, but they also get stuck in your teeth. Only a fool would buy them to eat."

They shook their heads and sighed about their bad luck as they left.

I'm planning to come early tomorrow morning to queue up so I can buy a few pounds of fatty meat to take home.

In the blink of an eye, the once bustling butcher shop was now empty except for Shu Ying.

The butcher waved his hand at her impatiently and said:

"You heard what those people were saying, right? If you want to buy meat, you'd better come tomorrow morning when it's just getting light."

"Let's hurry back now, don't stay here and delay me from packing up."

Upon hearing this, Shu Ying suddenly smiled.

"Brother, there's no need to rush. They don't like lean meat, but I love it."

"Just bring me whatever ribs, pig's trotters, and lean meat you have on your stall, I'll take them all."

Fearing that buying so much meat at once would arouse suspicion, Shu Ying even came up with a reason.

"I just got engaged and I'm getting married soon, so I need to buy a lot of meat to take home for the wedding banquet and to invite relatives and friends for drinks."

"So I'll take as much meat as you have here, I'd rather have too little than too much."

The butcher froze, looking at Shu Ying as if she were an idiot.

He had been selling meat at his stall for so many years, and this was the first time he had ever seen someone like Shu Ying who only bought lean meat and not fatty meat. He almost thought Shu Ying was playing a joke on him.

But upon closer inspection, it doesn't seem like it.

Shu Ying's overall demeanor was anything but that of an ordinary person.

It's unlikely that someone would make fun of him just to buy some meat.

The meat jerky vendor knew that those who liked fatty meat were usually ordinary people from poor families with little money.

People usually can't even afford to eat, and their stomachs are completely devoid of oil and fat. When they occasionally indulge in meat, they naturally crave fatty meat, which is affordable and filling.

But it's different for wealthy families; in addition to having enough to eat, they also have the resources to improve their living conditions.

Naturally, people will be more particular about their diet.

In this way, Shu Ying's behavior doesn't seem so strange.

Fearing that this hard-won big customer might back out at the last minute, the butcher quickly picked up a whole rack of ribs and slammed it onto the cutting board.

He rubbed his hands together and grinned, revealing eight big teeth.

"Girl, how many ribs do you want? I'll cut them for you."

His stall only had so little food, there was no need to cut anything.

Shu Ying simply waved her hand, and without the boss needing to cut the meat separately, she took whole strips of it.

When she rummaged through Shu Xuecheng's house, she even took their refrigerator and put it into her space.

That refrigerator was an imported product bought from abroad, and it had a particularly large capacity.

Putting down so much meat is no problem at all.

Shu Ying's generosity left the butcher stunned, and he almost laughed his teeth out.

"Alright, girl, wait here, I'll pack the meat for you right away!"

Shu Ying made an excuse that someone would be coming to pick her up later and asked the butcher to help move all the meat outside the farmers' market.

Then, taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, he put them all into his spatial storage.

Then they turned back and started buying other things.

In those days, resources were relatively limited, and the variety of goods available in farmers' markets was even more limited.

Shu Ying is quite picky about food, so I can only prepare as much as possible.

She bought a lot of local seasonal vegetables, such as bok choy, cabbage, radishes, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, green beans, and winter melons.

She also didn't miss out on any of the bean products, aquatic products, pickled vegetables, and dried goods, such as salted vegetables, pickled mustard greens, dried plum vegetables, and dried bamboo shoots.

The two children love to eat chicken and duck eggs, so Shuying bought extra and also some locally grown fruit.

I'll take it back for the two children to eat, to supplement their nutrition.

Shu Ying was initially worried that all the food she had bought would spoil before she could finish it.

When she used her subconscious to check on the two children in the space, she found that the two little ones were eating apples that she had washed in the fruit bowl before.

Apples are a fruit that oxidizes very easily. Babies are used to taking a bite or two and then putting them aside while focusing on what they have in their hands. This often causes the apples to become stale.

Shu Ying was about to remind them when she noticed that the apples the little ones had placed on the table were different from those outside; they showed no signs of turning black.

She boldly guessed that her space must also have the function of keeping food fresh all year round.
