Some things are common knowledge, so there's no need to bring them up in the open.
But Xie Wanying has always been pampered since childhood, and even at this critical juncture, what she can't stand the most is still other people's contempt.
"It's a pity that fortunes change. You may not need me now, but that doesn't mean you won't need me in the future. You two had better remember your attitude today, so you won't regret it later. I'd like to see if you still have the same tough attitude when you encounter difficulties!"
These people live for their own benefit. They used to fawn over her because she was the daughter of the Xie family, but now they've decided to abandon her because they've discovered she has no value.
Zhao Lijuan simply didn't want to continue acting with her anymore, and her harsh words directly pierced through the veil of secrecy.
She crossed her arms and walked forward, meeting Xie Wanying's gaze with a playful expression.
"You really can't blame us for this. Think about it carefully. How much have we done for you over the years? Besides, you know your own situation. Have you ever taken advantage of our ignorance to help you hide things from others?"
Li Chunyan immediately understood what Zhao Lijuan meant.
Since things have already come to this point, there's no need to worry about offending anyone anymore.
“We’ve been helping you all along, and that’s enough for our relationship. We’ve done everything we could for you. Today is the last time we’ll speak up for you. I advise you to be careful. Don’t treat everyone like fools, or you’ll only end up looking bad.”
Xie Wanying's brows furrowed tightly, still not understanding what the two people meant.
What's going on with them?
The two people who usually seem so timid and submissive suddenly became tough for no reason. Where did they get the audacity to throw a tantrum at her?
Besides, there are many things she's been hiding from them; who knows which one they're referring to, openly or secretly.
She decides what she wants to do, so why should she consult them? Do they even deserve to?
“Since you’re alright, we won’t send you off. We’re not as lucky as you, able to sit around all day watching what your family is doing. I need to go back and wash the baby’s clothes while it’s still early.”
After Zhao Lijuan finished speaking, she didn't give Xie Wanying a chance to speak again, and turned around and left without looking back.
Xie Wanying originally wanted to assign them tasks, but seeing their synchronized movements, she felt a lump in her throat and almost suffocated.
"Have you all lost your minds today? One by one, you've come up to me and said all this nonsense. What do you take me for? Do you think I'm some kind of despicable person?!"
They were clearly holding back their anger.
The two walked faster and faster, as if afraid that Xie Wanying would come looking for them again.
Xie Wanying stomped her feet and cursed from behind, "Fine, since you two are so capable, then don't come begging to me no matter what happens in the future. You'd better think it through. My parents are leaders of the research institute, and my parents-in-law and husband are public employees in the factory. If you two offend me, it's the same as offending the entire residential compound. If I don't agree, no one will be able to solve the trouble you encounter."
Putting everything else aside, Xie Zhiyan's current status is already so high that many people want to give gifts but can't even reach him.
Although Xie Wanying has always been unwilling to admit it, she has indeed gained a lot of benefits from Xie Zhiyan's position, including her current status in her husband's family.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, Li Chunyan and Zhao Lijuan stopped in their tracks and turned around at the same time.
She gave a smug smirk. A gust of wind blew by, and Xie Wanying stood motionless under the tree, her arrogance even more evident in her words.
"It's not that I look down on you, but you can only blame your men for being useless. Every single one of my family members is outstanding. I'll pretend I didn't hear what you two just said. If you're still going to be so stubborn, don't blame me for being ruthless when you need me."
These words always sounded arrogant, like a petty person who had gotten away with something, but coming from Xie Wanying's mouth, they didn't seem out of place at all.
She seems to be that kind of person.
Even though she received higher education and was exposed to knowledge, she couldn't wash away the smugness in her bones.
She was smug about her current status and position; the heights that others could never reach in their entire lives, she could attain with just a wave of her hand.
She must maintain this peaceful life, no matter the cost.
Unfortunately, contrary to Xie Wanying's expectations, Li Chunyan and the other person did not come to submit.
Zhao Lijuan shielded her eyes with one hand, blocking out the glaring sunlight, and her cold, contemptuous voice rang out from her nose.
"Then you'd better pray that you can rely on your family and find a good husband's family that you worked so hard to find, so that you don't end up with nothing to show for your efforts and end up pleasing neither side."
Xie Wanying seems to be living a glamorous and successful life now, but if she were really doing that well, she wouldn't keep coming over to Shu Ying to seek validation.
They used to not understand why she was so wary of a newlywed sister-in-law, but now they understood: when a person's virtue does not match their position, she herself will feel guilty.
Because she understood that she had no connection with the Xie family, she knew that the Xie family's assets had nothing to do with her either. Before the worst day came, she always tried her best to plan more for herself.
Li Chunyan's smile was somewhat irritating; she didn't even glance at Xie Wanying twice, only wanting to sever ties with her as quickly as possible.
"Don't worry, even if the sky falls, we'll hold it up ourselves. We're not as lucky as you to have found such a good family to marry into, but at least I can still go back to my own family."
Xie Wanying looked into the meaningful eyes of the two people, feeling a lump in her throat.
She always felt that these people were strange, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong with them.
These past few days she's felt uneasy. She had originally planned to take some valuables back from the Xie family today, find the key to her in-laws' room, and take the jewelry that Wang Yayun brought as part of her dowry. But she didn't expect that when she got back to the Xie family, they had changed the locks.
Wang Yayun always treated her like a thief, and many of her cabinets had individual locks, a blatant way of insulting her, yet she couldn't say anything.
I went back to my parents' house today and was turned away again. These two people are just adding fuel to the fire.
