"You can make us atone however you want, but from now on, if you tell us to go east, we will never go west!"
"You can do whatever you want with us, or if you're still not satisfied, you can beat us the way we used to beat you!"
"But... please don't send us to jail, we really don't want to go to jail."
"We're not young anymore. If we really go to jail, we don't even know if we'll survive the rest of our lives!"
"We don't want to grow old and die in a place like that!"
As Cui Lanhua spoke, she broke down in tears, her tears and snot mingling together, and she was sobbing uncontrollably.
"Waaah... We've lived most of our lives hoping for a couple of peaceful days. If we had known this day would come, we shouldn't have sent you out to sleep with the old man."
“That premature baby must have died because the old man was too old. We absolutely did not kill the baby on purpose… Please believe us and give us another chance.”
"Don't let them take all my things. At least leave us a couple of items, okay?"
In her haste, Cui Lanhua blurted out whatever came to mind, without realizing how much she had inadvertently revealed.
Xie Mingzhu seemed to have been struck on the head, her body swayed violently, and she slowly looked down in disbelief at the two people who were still desperately crying and begging.
Huang Meiling and Xie Wenyuan were startled to see Xie Mingzhu looking as if she had suffered a great blow. They quickly stepped forward to support their daughter and anxiously asked her what was wrong.
"Mingzhu, are you alright?"
While comforting their daughter, Huang Meiling and Xie Wenyuan were practically going crazy with anger.
"Well, no wonder you two were so guilty. You turned around and tried to run away just now. So you were hiding so many guilty thoughts!"
Cui Lanhua and Zhou Dazhu were stunned for a moment, as if they had just realized what they had just said. Zhou Dazhu glared at Cui Lanhua resentfully, exasperated.
"Why do you have such a big mouth, woman? You just blurt out everything!"
"You...you can't blame me, you didn't stop me when I said it just now, did you?"
After Cui Lanhua finished speaking, she realized that everyone was looking at her. Startled and frightened, she lowered her head and hugged the package in her arms even tighter.
Huang Meiling immediately noticed that something was wrong.
What exactly is in this package?
Hearing them mention the package, Cui Lanhua's heart clenched, and her eyes darted around nervously.
"No...it's nothing, just our usual clothes."
His reaction made him seem even more suspicious.
Things are definitely not that simple.
Xie Wenyuan looked up at He Yaoqing, who immediately understood and snatched the package from Cui Lanhua's arms.
When I opened it, it was full of clothes haphazardly folded together.
Although the clothes were messy, they weren't wrinkled. Rather than being piled up haphazardly, it was more like they were deliberately folded into this chaotic state.
He Yaoqing felt increasingly uneasy and began to examine the clothes one by one.
However, a discovery was made in a short time.
One of the pants had an unusually wide waistband, and the garment was very heavy.
He Yaoqing reached out and touched it, and found that the waistband was all hard inside. It would make a creaking sound if you squeezed it hard, and the texture was somewhat like paper.
He Yaoqing immediately took out the knife he carried with him, cut open his waistband, and opened it to take a look.
Inside, stacked into rectangular strips, were banknotes.
Cui Lanhua kept her eyes wide open the whole time, not daring to even breathe loudly.
When she saw all the money being turned over, she seemed to finally give up, collapsing to the ground as if all her strength had been drained, her lips trembling uncontrollably in panic.
Xie Mingzhu looked at the pile of money, then at Cui Lanhua and Zhou Dazhu, and asked somewhat blankly.
"How could you have so much money? How could you possibly have so much money? Where did this money come from?"
Hearing her daughter's words, and recalling the things Cui Lanhua had said in her panic, Huang Meiling suddenly realized something. She took a deep breath and forcefully suppressed her anger—
"Is this the money you got from selling my daughter?!"
Cui Lanhua and Zhou Dazhu were so guilty that they didn't dare to look at them, their eyes constantly darting around.
Xie Wenyuan clutched Cui Dazhu's collar, feeling the trembling breath he was taking as it hit the back of his hand.
That's enough to illustrate the point.
Huang Meiling and Xie Wenyuan felt as if their hearts had been gripped tightly by a large hand.
The two slowly turned their heads, looking at Xie Mingzhu with heartache, and for a moment they didn't know what to say.
Xie Mingzhu's mind went blank, and it took her a long time to recover. The words Cui Lanhua had just said kept replaying in her mind.
Her face was pale as she shook her head repeatedly in disbelief.
"How could this be... how could this be?"
She has no recollection of the harm she suffered.
If these things are true, how could she have no memory of them at all...?
Xie Mingzhu desperately tried to recall, desperately trying to use her memory to prove that what Cui Lanhua said was all false, and that she had not suffered those harms.
But that memory was a complete blank for her.
She couldn't remember anything at all, and had no recollection of what she had experienced back then.
Xie Mingzhu was not one to deceive herself. She opened her mouth in anguish, wanting to question and confirm, but the memories of the Zhong family after losing their child flooded her mind, as if they were indirectly confirming something.
