Chapter 10 The Zhou Family

The next day at noon, the sky was clear, and the slightly warm sunlight streamed in through the window, so bright that Chu Wuyang had to open her eyes.

A piercing phone ringtone sounded, and Chu Wuyang, still half asleep, fumbled for his phone on the bedside table and answered it.

A sweet, excited voice came from the other end, tinged with reproach.

"Chu Wuyang, you came back without telling me. If Chu Xi hadn't brought it up today, I would still be in the dark. Am I still your best friend?"

Chu Wuyang, still sounding sleepy, said:

"My fourth brother? Ye Yuhe, when did you become so close to my fourth brother?"

The other end suddenly fell silent, followed by a slightly flustered explanation.

"No, no, we're just communicating normally."

Then they joked and teased.

"So you didn't just wake up now, did you? Tsk tsk tsk, men who stay empty-handed for long periods are really scary!"

Chu Wuyang was both amused and exasperated. Too lazy to waste any more words with her, he wanted to end the conversation and go back to sleep.

"That's all, I'm hanging up now!"

Ye Yuhe said urgently:

"Don't hang it up, don't hang it up! There's a banquet tonight, let's go together!"

Chu Wuyang was really exhausted. She had insomnia last night and really wanted to sleep all day, just like she had told Jingmin last night!

Reject without hesitation

"No, I don't want to go out."

Ye Yuhe said, "Come on over, your CEO Jing is here too! It's hosted by the Zhou family. They say it's the Zhou family patriarch's birthday, but actually it's because their eldest son is officially taking over the family business. This banquet is to introduce the eldest son of the Zhou family to the industry."

Chu Wuyang, who had been somewhat dazed, seemed to perk up immediately upon hearing the words "Zhou family," and asked with great interest.

"Is the Zhou family the one that owns many hospitals, invests in numerous medical experiments, and focuses on the medical field?"

Ye Yuhe: "Yes, in Haicheng, where else can you find a Zhou family with such influence that they could invite your CEO Jing!"

Chu Wuyang recalled that, if she remembered correctly, the Zhou family did indeed have a deep connection with Jing Min.

He and Zhou Chen, the second son of the Zhou family, were classmates and friends for many years.

A while ago in New York, Yang Jinchu brought news that Wen Li had met Lin Yuebai and the eldest son of the Zhou family while attending a medical exchange conference abroad.

There are even two photos. One shows the two people in a coffee shop, with documents on the table, as if they are discussing something important; their expressions are serious.

The other photo shows two people entering a club, walking and talking one after the other.

The two didn't seem to be just meeting; they were more like well-coordinated partners.

Two seemingly unrelated people actually share a close and tacit understanding, while Jing Min has a good relationship with the second young master, Zhou Chen.

Chu Wuyang even imagined a melodramatic soap opera where Lin Yuebai couldn't have Jing Min because of her unrequited love.

So they planned to target his brother.

She wanted to make him jealous and force him to realize his true feelings. And to make Zhou Chen fall in love with her, she deliberately cooperated with Zhou Heng.

So she was a spy in the past? And then helped Zhou Chen seize power? Chu Wuyang was amused by her own wild imagination.

However, as is widely known, the eldest son of the Zhou family's mother died of a stroke due to the cliché of a mistress forcing her way into the position of a wealthy family.

At that time, young Zhou Heng had lost his mother's support and was sent abroad with both a stepmother and a stepfather.

Chu Wuyang was too young at the time to have met this young master.

However, I've heard quite a bit of the gossip, both true and false, circulating in the circles of the wealthy. Apparently, this eldest son has already completed his studies and returned to the country.

Chu Wuyang knew that Wen Li and Yang Jinchu were longtime friends, closer than brothers. She wouldn't have paid attention to such things if it weren't for their close friendship.

Therefore, Wen Li could not possibly lie to Yang Jinchu, and Yang Jinchu could not possibly lie to her either.

Thinking of this, she felt even more guilty.

It seems she's always letting him down.

Ye Yuhe didn't hear anything on the other end of the phone, so she urged her again:

"Come on, I heard the eldest son of the Zhou family is incredibly handsome! He's also studying medicine, a real heartthrob. I wonder which lucky young lady will be able to pluck him after this banquet!"

Chu Wuyang had actually already prepared to go; she was getting ready to wash up when she heard Ye Yuhe's strong encouragement and worry.

"Ahe, the Zhou family is far too complicated. Putting aside what kind of person the eldest son is, Zhou Chen's mother alone is no pushover. Don't think you can marry him just because he's good-looking! In the cutthroat Zhou family, you innocent little rabbit will be devoured without a trace."

Hearing Chu Wuyang's tone, which sounded like he was rehashing old news, Ye Yuhe couldn't help but want to retort, but she held back from saying it.

She didn't like any of those young masters, Mr. Zhou. The person she liked was way more than a billion times better looking than him.

Ye Yuhe gave a perfunctory reply

"Okay, I'll come find you this afternoon, and we'll go pick out dresses together."

After hanging up the phone, Chu Wuyang went downstairs to have lunch when she heard a knock on the door. Opening it, she was surprised to see Aunt Rong.

"Miss, are you ready? You can come downstairs for dinner now. It's all your favorite food."

Aunt Rong noticed her confusion and said before she could answer:

“My son-in-law called early this morning to say that the new people we hired here haven’t arrived yet, and he was worried that you wouldn’t be able to adapt, so he sent someone to pick me up and take care of you for a while.”

Chu Wuyang smiled upon hearing this, walked towards the dressing table, and replied, "Do I, a grown woman, need to be taken care of? I cook for myself when I'm abroad."

Aunt Rong stopped tidying the blankets and looked at Chu Wuyang, saying, "You're such a grown-up, and you still can't even fold a blanket properly, and your things are all messed up everywhere..."

Listening to Aunt Rong's rambling, Chu Wuyang was speechless for a moment, but she didn't argue back, and she rarely showed such a girlish coquettish side.

"Oh, Aunt Rong is the best person in the world. Thank you for taking care of me in the days to come."

From a young age, she was adept at charming and flattering, and Aunt Rong was always completely charmed by her, stopping her nagging and letting her off the hook. Then, she said with concern:

"You're not planning to leave again this time, are you?"

Chu Wuyang fiddled with the makeup brush in her hand

"Not for now. I'll finish my studies there soon and graduate. I plan to work at KOALA."

Aunt Rong had already tidied up the quilts, and then turned around to pack her suitcase, which she hadn't had time to unpack yet.

"That's good. Now that you're married, you should prioritize your family. Long-term separation isn't good. Your husband is in a high position now; many people are eyeing him! You can't continue to act so indifferent, or you'll regret it."

Chu Wuyang quickly got up and hugged Rong's arm.

"Okay, okay, don't move, I'll do it myself..." (She went downstairs to eat.)

Aunt Rong could tell from her nonchalant attitude that she definitely hadn't listened to what she was saying.

She wanted to say something more, but Chu Wuyang pulled her downstairs, so she had to give up.
