Chu Wuyang walked out of the sanatorium gate with slightly heavy steps.
Unexpectedly, a black luxury car with a series of license plates belonging exclusively to the Jing family was parked at the gate.
They had been waiting at the gate for quite some time.
Chu Wuyang was taken aback; she had clearly taken a taxi herself when she arrived.
But now it seems that his whereabouts are transparent to him, with no secrets whatsoever.
She stood at the front door, her feet seemingly nailed to the spot.
His body instinctively retreated, and with each step he took, his panic intensified.
Suddenly, she turned around abruptly, wanting to go back to the sanatorium, as if it were the only safe place where she could escape everything.
Just then, the car horn suddenly blared.
The sound was particularly jarring at the quiet entrance of the sanatorium.
Chu Wuyang froze instantly, but did not turn around. Grandma Jiang's words about Jin Lanyue's suffocating desire for control still echoed in her ears, keeping her nerves on edge.
Immediately afterwards, she heard the sound of the car door being pulled open, and she straightened her back even more.
Even his shoulder line unconsciously straightened into a taut line, like a fully drawn bow.
"Madam, over here."
A familiar male voice, not belonging to that person, came through, and Chu Wuyang relaxed slightly.
She looked up at the sky, which was a clear, deep blue, but her eyes seemed vacant. After a while, she let out a soft breath.
It was as if the tension and panic in his heart were released with that breath.
Then, she slowly turned around and saw Li Yan standing by the car, looking at her with a puzzled expression.
Chu Wuyang tried her best to make her expression look natural as she slowly walked over.
He said, feigning nonchalance:
"I just remembered that I seem to have left something behind, but it's nothing important. I'll go back first!"
As she spoke, she brushed her hair behind her ear, trying to hide her guilty conscience.
Li Yan, who was usually quiet, didn't ask any questions. He simply nodded slightly, got into the driver's seat, and closed the car door.
The car slowly started and drove towards the Jing Family Manor, finally coming to a steady stop at the North Building.
As Chu Wuyang stepped out of the car, he saw a handsome profile standing in the garden pavilion.
He stood tall and straight like a pine tree, wearing a simple set of matching loungewear in the same color scheme, plus a light khaki cashmere sweater.
The soft, plush texture gave him a gentle glow.
Chu Wuyang felt much more relaxed.
He had one hand in his pocket and the other holding the phone, speaking in a low voice.
His gaze fell on the workers backfilling the swimming pool, as if he were supervising the progress of the project.
At this moment, his gaze fell upon Chu Wuyang.
His eyes, which had been as calm as a deep, cold pool, seemed to flash like a shooting star the moment he saw someone.
A barely perceptible ripple flashed across his face.
He frowned slightly, spoke a few words quickly and in a low voice to the person on the other end of the phone, and then hurriedly hung up.
His long, slender fingers deftly slipped the phone into his pocket, and with a long stride, each step carried a hint of urgency.
Yet it remained composed, the stone slabs beneath its feet making a soft creaking sound.
Approaching Chu Wuyang, he lowered his head slightly, his gaze fixed intently on her.
Thin lips parted slightly:
"What did you talk about that took so long?"
As he spoke, his well-defined knuckles gently encircled Chu Wuyang's shoulder, and he led her into the house with an undeniable force.
The warmth of that hand, transmitted through the clothes, couldn't warm Chu Wuyang's somewhat cold heart.
"nothing!"
Chu Wuyang's voice was muffled.
She lowered her head, a few strands of hair falling down and obscuring her profile, making it impossible to see her expression.
Jingmin stopped in his tracks, looking down at her intently.
Her loose strands of hair seemed to exude an air of sadness, like a flower withering alone in the rain.
His brow furrowed slightly, a hint of worry flashing in his eyes, but his voice remained cold and clear:
Did she insult you? Or did she say something?
Chu Wuyang froze, slowly raising her eyes with a questioning look in them.
Jingmin held her shoulders with both hands.
He sighed deeply, his gaze softening.
"Don't pay attention to what the old lady or others say in front of you. Just ask me if you have any questions."
His voice was steady.
Chu Wuyang understood what he meant.
He knew that he thought Grandma Jiang had said something provocative that made him unhappy.
She shook her head slightly, her tone flat:
"Nobody goesssips!"
A hint of doubt appeared in Jing Min's eyes, and his gaze became even more profound.
"Then why are you unhappy again?"
Chu Wuyang's heart tightened; she didn't want him to notice anything unusual about her.
Fearing he would press further, she forced a smile and jokingly said in a lighthearted tone:
"It was just talking about some past events."
She blinked, a sly glint in her eyes.
"Yes, I did swear, but it was at you."
Jing Min was slightly taken aback, a hint of curiosity flashing in his eyes, and his usually aloof expression softened slightly.
"What did they say to me?"
His voice remained deep, but now held a hint of inquiry.
Chu Wuyang's lips curled up slightly, her smile deepening, as if she had found an interesting topic.
"She scolded you, calling you an ingrate who forgot his grandmother after marrying a wife."
Jing Min was taken aback at first, then chuckled softly.
He stepped forward, gently encircling Chu Wuyang from behind, resting his chin on the top of her head, and said softly:
"She was right to scold me!"
His voice was as gentle as a breeze, filled with affection.
Chu Wuyang stiffened slightly, and she struggled a little, feeling somewhat uneasy.
She turned her head away, avoiding his burning gaze.
Her gaze drifted to the swimming pool under construction not far away, as if she had found a new point of interest and was trying to change the subject.
"This is?"
Jing Min's deep eyes narrowed slightly. After hearing Chu Wuyang's question, he slowly raised his head and looked towards the swimming pool.
A complex emotion flashed in his eyes.
"Filled it in."
His voice was deep and cold, like frost in a cold night; the three simple words carried an undeniable power.
It seemed that the swimming pool had stirred up some unpleasant memories for him.
He frowned slightly, looked down at Chu Wuyang, the coldness in his eyes fading slightly, replaced by a hint of inquiry.
"After you fill it in, do you think we should plant something else in this area?"
Chu Wuyang's mind wasn't on this at all; she was only trying to appease Jing Min's question.
Her eyes were somewhat unfocused, and she said absentmindedly:
"It's up to you to decide."
Jing Min didn't take Chu Wuyang's perfunctory attitude to heart. He pursed his lips and fell into deep thought.
Long, slender fingers tapped lightly on the outside of her thigh, as if weighing something.
After a moment, he said in a calm tone, "Then let's plant two pear trees?"
Chu Wuyang nodded slightly, her gaze still somewhat unfocused, her tone flat.
"Um!"
It was a soft sound, like a gentle breeze, leaving no trace of emotion.
