Chapter 104 Irredeemable Calamity

Jingmin sat quietly against the headboard.

His stern face revealed a rare tenderness under the dim light.

He held Chu Wuyang's hand tightly; those hands were long and strong.

His well-defined, slightly white knuckles betrayed the turmoil in his heart.

His deep eyes were fixed on Chu Wuyang as he slowly spoke:

"She only said that her illness stemmed from being betrayed, and she warned me never to trust others easily,"

"Especially, you can't easily open your heart to someone, otherwise you'll get sick from being betrayed."

His voice was deep and magnetic, as if he were telling an ancient and mysterious story, each word carrying a hint of heaviness.

"But she never said what the illness was. At first, I was also very curious about what kind of terminal illness could become incurable because of someone else's betrayal."

"The subsequent autopsy report also revealed that she was in good health before."

Jing Min frowned slightly, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.

He paused, then continued:

"So I guess she must have had severe depression at that time."

Chu Wuyang listened quietly, her long, flowing hair cascading to one side, her fair face glowing softly under the light.

Her temples were throbbing, as if a little deer was throbbing inside.

Jingmin actually guessed it?

Her mind was still in a daze, constantly replaying what Grandma Jiang had said in her head.

According to Grandma Jiang's account, Jing Yi and Jin Lanyue initially had a deep relationship and there was no betrayal involved, but Jin Lanyue remained stubborn.

However, in Jin Lanyue and Jing Min's accounts, the cause of the illness was attributed to betrayal by others.

This is clearly Jin Lanyue's true nature, a family trait.

Family genetics?

These four words kept repeating in Chu Wuyang's mind, like a spell.

She slowly raised her eyes to look at Jing Min, and Jing Min looked back at her, his eyes filled with a smile.

That smile, like the warm spring sun, dispelled the gloom in his eyes, making him seem perfectly normal.

Chu Wuyang lowered her eyes, her thick eyelashes casting a shadow beneath her eyelids.

She thought to herself: Even if it's genetic, there's a probability factor involved, isn't there?

The inner turmoil in her eyes was like a tangled mess, impossible to unravel.

Jing Min saw all of this clearly.

Seeing this, Jing Min pulled Chu Wuyang closer to him, his movements gentle and natural.

He spoke softly:

Are you scared?

His breath gently brushed against Chu Wuyang's ear, carrying a hint of warmth.

"Don't be afraid. The Jing family was indeed fraught with danger in the past, but now that I'm here, I guarantee that no danger will leak in."

His gaze was firm and steady, like a majestic mountain peak, giving people an endless sense of security.

The two had different thoughts. Chu Wuyang understood the reason; she knew that Jin Lanyue's so-called betrayal was Jing Yi's infidelity.

Jing Min, however, always blamed Jin Lanyue's mental breakdown on the internal and external troubles that plagued the Jing family back then.

Then, Jing Min lowered his head slightly, his gaze, like a deep, dark pool, fixed intently on Chu Wuyang.

His eyes seemed to hold a thousand unspoken words, yet they were concealed by his aloof demeanor.

His voice was low and slow, carrying a mysterious depth.

As if every word had been carefully considered, the question was asked:

Would you betray me?

Chu Wuyang was slightly taken aback, then pretended not to understand.

His eyes quickly filled with questions; they were like clear lake water, shimmering with confusion.

"What?"

Her tone carried a hint of guilt and distance.

Jing Min chuckled softly, the laughter echoing in the silent room, but devoid of any warmth.

He slowly raised his hand, his long, slender fingers gently brushing away the stray hairs from her temples.

My fingertips brushed against her cheek unintentionally, bringing a slight coolness.

His voice grew deeper, like muffled thunder rolling through the clouds.

"Never betray me, or... I will be doomed."

Chu Wuyang chuckled twice, the laughter somewhat stiff, as if to break the dull and oppressive atmosphere.

She sat up from Jingmin's arms, moved her body, and leaned against him.

"What a joke! It's kind of scary."

She frowned slightly, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes.

Jing Min didn't move, remaining in the same position, his lips slightly parted as he murmured:

"I feel like I'm sick too, and I can't be cured."

A hint of vulnerability flashed in his eyes, an emotion usually hidden beneath his calm and aloof exterior.

Chu Wuyang was startled, but her expression remained completely unchanged.

She raised an eyebrow slightly and said sarcastically:

"You must be sick. Didn't you have trouble sleeping at night recently and insist on having stories told to you like a little kid?"

Her words carried a hint of teasing, attempting to ease the somber atmosphere.

After Chu Wuyang finished speaking, Jing Min remained silent for a long while, only looking at her intently, the hint of disappointment in his eyes like a sharp sword.

Chu Wuyang did not miss this subtle change.

She shifted her gaze somewhat uncomfortably, moved her body, and reached out to turn off the light on her bedside table.

The lights went out, and the space suddenly became darker. The light that had been shimmering in Jing Min's pupils also dimmed, like stars that had been extinguished in the night sky.

Chu Wuyang sat back in her original seat, letting out a soft sigh.

His tone softened unconsciously, becoming much gentler.

"Don't overthink it. It's just that you're too busy and don't get enough rest, which is why you have this illusion."

She paused, then continued:
