Chapter 105: A Story with a Deeper Meaning

In the pitch-black darkness of the late night, the room seemed shrouded in an invisible veil.

This enveloped the two of them in a subtle and complex atmosphere.

Jingmin lay quietly on the bed, his eyes fixed on the ceiling, but his thoughts were like a runaway horse.

Hesitated about the matter of his mother that we had just discussed.

Although Chu Wuyang beside him didn't move much,

But the figure that kept turning over and over still caught Jingmin's attention.

Jing Min slightly turned his head, his cool eyes looking at Chu Wuyang, and said in a low and steady voice:

Can't sleep?

"Well, how about I tell you a story?"

Chu Wuyang opened her tightly closed eyes, a hint of question flashing in them, her tone languid:

"Will you talk?"

Jing Min frowned slightly, a hint of helplessness in his voice:

"Tell me, I don't know."

Chu Wuyang gave a light hum and said reproachfully.

"Why not?"

"I've told you 'The Little Match Girl' so many times."

Jing Min's eyes dimmed, and a trace of sadness appeared on his usually cold face.

He said slowly, "Let's not talk about this, let's talk about something else."

Chu Wuyang's heart stirred, and she sensed the emotion in his words.

She knew that he had just mentioned his mother, and even though he and his mother didn't have the warmth of a normal family relationship...

But the bond of blood ties still left a mark on his heart.

The plot of "The Little Match Girl," in which she searches for her loved ones in hallucinations until her death, is indeed too poignant and somewhat inappropriate at this moment.

Chu Wuyang made two "hmm" sounds in response to Jing Min.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Jing Min reached out his slender fingers and gently nudged Chu Wuyang.

A reminder:

"Change to something else!"

Chu Wuyang turned around somewhat irritably.

"I don't know either. Either you explain it yourself, or you go to sleep."

Jing Min listened and then fell silent, and the room fell into a brief silence.

However, after a short while, Jing Min's cool, melancholic voice vanished like a wisp of smoke in the night breeze.

The voice slowly rose and fell: "Deep in the distant ocean, lived a mermaid princess..."

Chu Wuyang lay quietly on the bed, her eyes gazing into the dark void.

As Jingmin narrated, her thoughts gradually became immersed in this story that she had never fully understood before.

Every word uttered by Jingmin sounded like an ancient incantation, echoing in the quiet room in the latter half of the night.

I remember last time, Jingmin used storytelling as a bargaining chip, and the story he specifically mentioned was "The Little Mermaid".

At that moment, his eyes held a unique kind of determination.

Now, Jingmin is the storyteller, and she is the listener.

Jingmin's voice was clear and steady, like a mountain stream flowing gently in this tranquil space. Indeed, listening to a story to fall asleep is an auditory pleasure.

Chu Wuyang felt as if she were floating on a soft cloud.

Gradually, my eyelids grew heavy.

It felt like I was about to drift off to sleep any second.

At this moment, Jingmin said:

"The prince took the mermaid princess back to the palace, but he mistakenly believed that the princess who saved him was another princess and planned to marry that princess..."

The sound stopped abruptly.

Chu Wuyang's relaxed nerves suddenly tightened, and a sense of surprise welled up in his heart.

She frowned slightly, and her previously dazed eyes instantly cleared.

He wondered why Jingmin had stopped.

Was he also moved by the story of the Little Mermaid being betrayed?

Are you feeling sad?

Chu Wuyang slowly turned her head to look at him.

But Jingmin wore a mischievous smile, a smile devoid of any sadness.

Instead, he wore a strange, slightly relieved smile.

His eyes gleamed in the darkness, like a deep pool concealing countless secrets.

Upon seeing this, Chu Wuyang couldn't help but roll her eyes, secretly cursing in her heart.

I almost got too caught up in the role and got carried away.

But this man seemed like a detached bystander.

Instead of empathizing with the Little Mermaid's plight, they even mocked her.

He must be mocking the Little Mermaid's love-struck mind, Chu Wuyang thought to herself.

However, upon further reflection, I realized that I was no different.

Isn't it precisely because people think the Little Mermaid is love-struck that they've never read the whole story?

It seems that having too much empathy isn't always a good thing.

Chu Wuyang felt a surge of irritation.

She avoided Jing Min's gaze, not wanting him to see the turmoil in her heart.

Turning her head away, she asked in a somewhat stiff tone:

"Why did you stop? Keep going!"

Jing Min looked at Chu Wuyang's somewhat flustered yet feigned composure, and his smile deepened.

He chuckled softly, the sound particularly clear in the quiet room.

He raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of amusement in his voice, and teased:

"You look somewhat sad,"

"What, are you putting yourself in the role of The Little Mermaid?"

His eyes shone with an all-knowing light.

Chu Wuyang seemed to have had her secret exposed, and her body stiffened slightly.

He then hurriedly said, his tone urgent.

"What are you trying to apply? You're talking nonsense."

"Please finish your story."

She frowned slightly as she spoke, urging him on.

Jing Min's lips curled up slightly, a smile that carried a hint of knowing everything.

Seeing that Chu Wuyang's explanation sounded like a cover-up, he didn't press the matter further.

The smile in his eyes only deepened.

He cleared his throat and continued:

"...The Little Mermaid was heartbroken, but she couldn't tell the prince the truth..."
