On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the Chu family's old house was decorated with lanterns and colorful decorations, with red lanterns hanging high.
At the gate of the mansion, servants stood in neat rows, respectfully welcoming guests who came to offer New Year's greetings.
Tea, snacks, and incense were all prepared, demonstrating impeccable manners.
The old house, with its deep courtyards and carved beams and painted rafters, appears even more ancient and charming in the morning light, its former grandeur undiminished.
It seems to be a testament to the stability and glory of this long-established powerhouse.
The main hall of the garden was filled with guests.
The elites of Haicheng's high society, as well as important figures from the political and business circles, were all present.
Amidst the clinking of glasses, toasts, greetings, and laughter, the atmosphere was lively and bustling.
The servants carried warm drinks around the table, behaving politely and without the slightest sign of panic.
At the head of the table sat Old Master Chu, his silver hair neatly combed back, a gentle smile on his face. He raised his glass and said loudly:
"This year has been blessed with favorable weather and abundant harvests, and the Chu family members have achieved great success in their careers, all thanks to the strong support of everyone present. Let's raise a toast to everyone."
During the meal, guests rose to their feet, raised their glasses, and, all smiles, chatted and complimented the elders of the Chu family.
"The Chu family has a profound heritage, and its descendants are all outstanding individuals. They are truly the pillars of Haicheng!"
The atmosphere grew increasingly heated, as if the mansion still stood tall and its glory undiminished.
However, the people at the table exchanged glances discreetly, their expressions deep, and a certain ambiguous emotion subtly surfaced in their eyes.
It was as if they were spying on the harbingers of an approaching storm.
During the banquet, Chu Wuyang wore a long, flowing crimson gauze dress, the hem of which trailed lightly on the ground.
Like the flowing sunset, it accentuated her porcelain-white, flawless skin.
She sat gracefully at one side of the long table, facing the toasts and blessings from everyone.
She responded with a faint smile, but her expression seemed somewhat absent-minded.
"What are you thinking about, Yangyang?"
A sweet, charming voice rang out.
Ye Yuhe wore a pale yellow gauze dress, her hair styled in a bun, looking sweet and charming.
She held Chu Wuyang's hand, looked around, and frowned slightly.
"Huh? Where's Jingmin, that living devil?"
"Didn't he used to watch you like the apple of his eye?"
"With so many people here today, how come you didn't see his 'tail' beside you?"
Chu Wuyang helplessly pressed down on her arm and lowered his voice:
"Don't look around. There are especially many guests today. It would be very impolite."
She paused, then added calmly:
"He has something to do and will be late."
However, Jing Min has indeed changed a lot; he no longer watches her every move as closely as before.
They wouldn't send anyone to follow her casually...
Perhaps he really did see a doctor when he said he had a mental illness, and at least now he seems to be getting better.
Ye Yuhe nodded obediently.
I had just sat down when I suddenly remembered something.
She suddenly grabbed Chu Wuyang's arm and asked urgently in a low voice:
"What's the deal with Yun Yang?"
"Why did her agent suddenly post a long article saying that she has to permanently retire from the entertainment industry because of her injury?"
"Some people even speculate that she married a powerful figure outside the entertainment industry!"
"Did you know? Someone previously made a connection, saying her powerful boyfriend is Jing Min."
Ye Yuhe became more and more excited as she spoke, her eyes gleaming with gossip.
"Of course it's impossible to marry Jingmin now, so what exactly happened?"
Chu Wuyang was quite startled by her startled tone.
I picked up the juice and took a sip to calm my nerves.
She glanced at the impatient curiosity on Ye Yuhe's face and said in a light tone:
"Well, he was retaliated against by Jing Min, and he seems to be mentally unstable. He's already been taken away."
Ye Yuhe's eyes widened, she gasped, and lowered her voice:
"Oh? Tell me more!"
Chu Wuyang sighed helplessly and whispered in her ear,
He gave a general account of what had happened, and briefly mentioned Yun Yang's misdeeds in Rongcheng.
After hearing this, Ye Yuhe wore a shocked and utterly bewildered expression, and exclaimed:
"My God, I never imagined that Zhou Chen, that peacock, could have such a devoted side..."
She paused, then realized what she was saying, and immediately spat out:
"Pah! What kind of infatuation is this? It's utterly despicable and unscrupulous!"
"However, he and Yun Yang are only reaping what they sowed."
Chu Wuyang nodded silently, tacitly agreeing with her assessment.
Ye Yuhe looked at her meaningfully, her eyes flickering slightly, and said slyly:
"Jing Min didn't let Yun Yang off the hook, so what about you?"
Chu Wuyang paused slightly, then feigned composure and said:
“Naturally, they weren’t spared either.”
Ye Yuhe looked her up and down, her tone playful:
"You're perfectly healthy, so how did you 'not spare' anything? You didn't mean you didn't spare anything in bed, did you?"
Chu Wuyang's face darkened, and he immediately ended the topic.
"In short, he sincerely explained all the things we suspected him of before... although there's still no clear conclusion..."
Ye Yuhe immediately interrupted her, smiling with narrowed eyes:
"So, you don't want to divorce him now?"
Chu Wuyang was taken aback by her question, as if he had never seriously considered this issue before.
She hesitated:
"It's not that... it's just..."
But she herself couldn't explain what came after "just".
Ye Yuhe summarized for her:
"So you trust him, but you still need to see how he performs, right?"
Chu Wuyang was stunned for a moment, then nodded gently.
But she had a vague premonition that even greater obstacles awaited them on this path…
As the banquet drew to a close, the ball officially began.
Behind the rosewood screen, the sounds of traditional Chinese string and wind instruments gradually subsided, and a Western orchestra began to play a melodious waltz.
