Chapter 281 Returning to Haicheng

The sky had long since darkened, and night had fallen.

The helicopter's rotors churned the air, kicking up a cloud of dust on the helipad.

The cabin door opened, and Jingmin stepped out. His foot had just touched the ground when…

His gaze fell on Chu Wuyang, who was standing quietly not far away.

He frowned slightly, paused, and his eyes deepened.

A bad feeling crept into his heart.

But he didn't show it on his face at all; he simply walked quickly toward her.

He took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.

He pulled her into his arms, his palm resting on her slightly cool arm, his brow furrowing even more.

"It's windy here, why are you standing here waiting for me?"

Are you cold?

He led her towards the villa, his tone as relaxed as possible, as if casually joking.

"You used to keep urging me to go to work, and now that I'm leaving, you're just waiting here?"

Chu Wuyang was not swayed by his nonchalant tone.

She stopped and looked directly at him, her voice crisp and clear, without any beating around the bush.

"Has something happened in Haicheng?"

Jing Min's eyes darkened slightly.

He pursed his thin lips, his tone remaining unhurried and deliberately relaxed.

"What could be wrong?"

"It's just some trivial trouble at the company. I'll take care of it when I get back, and I'll be able to resolve it quickly."

Chu Wuyang looked somewhat disappointed.

He's still hiding something that's happened?

"Yeah?"

"Would you like to hear what happened to me on the island today?"

Jing Min's brow twitched.

His expression remained calm.

It was as if they had already guessed something.

But he didn't respond, waiting for her to continue.

Chu Wuyang looked directly at him.

The sound was neither too loud nor too soft.

"Jingmin, I know about the Chu family's affairs."

She paused, her gaze calm.

Why didn't you tell me about something so serious?

Her tone lacked the sharpness of an interrogation; instead, it conveyed a deep sense of bewilderment and disappointment.

The news in Haicheng has caused quite a stir, and Jingmin has been back at the company dealing with matters for some time now.

He couldn't have waited until the news had spread to this point before learning the inside story.

Moreover, with his abilities, how could he possibly be completely unaware of all of this?

Why did he hide it?

What are they running away from again?

Jing Min's fingers tightened almost imperceptibly for a moment, and his Adam's apple bobbed slightly.

Before he could ask, "How did she know?"

Chu Wuyang spoke first.

"During the day, the Filipino maid subtly persuaded me to leave the island, and she spilled all the secrets about the Chu family."

Her voice was neither hurried nor slow.

"It was Mr. Jin who instigated it."

“Jingmin, on this island, besides that Filipino maid… there are probably other spies planted by Old Master Jin.”

Jing Min's gaze darkened slightly, a complex emotion surging in his eyes.

His tone remained calm, even somewhat reassuring.

“I will handle it. I will re-screen the personnel on the island and make sure that this will not happen again.”

Chu Wuyang stared at him, a strange emotion suddenly welling up in her heart.

Is this the Jingmin she knows?

Such a big thing has happened, yet he's still avoiding the main issue and doesn't want to take her back to Haicheng?

She stepped forward.

"Jingmin, do you think that as long as you leave me on the island, everything that happens outside can be ignored?"

Her voice wasn't loud, but every word struck his heart.

“Those are my family members, how could I possibly stand aside?”

Jing Min met her gaze, his expression unchanged, his voice low and firm.

“I’m not telling you to ignore what’s going on outside, but rather—those things are none of your concern.”

As he spoke, he gently placed his palm on her lower abdomen, and a stubborn look finally appeared in his eyes.

"You just need to stay on the island and wait for our child to arrive..."

His tone conveyed an unwavering resolve.

"Leave the rest to me."

He even promised to cover the troubles of the Chu family.

"I will also handle the Chu family's affairs."

"Your presence won't change anything; it will only cause you more trouble."

Chu Wuyang looked at him, the complex emotions in her eyes gradually solidifying into a cold indifference.

After a moment, she smiled faintly, a smile that carried a hint of irony.

"Jingmin, I never knew you were such a person who liked to run away from things."

Jing Min's expression stiffened slightly, and his pupils contracted slightly.

Chu Wuyang's voice was neither hurried nor slow, yet it struck at his weak spot.

"deal with?"

"What are you going to do about it?"

She looked into his eyes and said, word by word,

"Grandpa Jin said that you've almost squandered all of Boyifang's money."

"As in-laws, the Chu family shouldn't be able to count on the already battered and bruised Boyifang for help, right?"

Her tone was completely flat.

"You did go back to Haicheng, but did you really do anything to turn the tide?"

"Or are you saying—you don't want to at all?"

She learned from Grandpa Jin that Jing Min's promise to return to work in Haicheng was just a perfunctory gesture.

"You just want to squander everything little by little and give me an explanation."

"That way, you can take me away with a clear conscience and live in seclusion."

Jing Min's lips moved slightly, but he did not refute her.

He was seen through.

Chu Wuyang didn't give him a chance to explain and continued,

What are you so afraid of?
