Chapter 312 Delayed Returning Home

The rain started as night fell.

A layer of gray-blue mist surrounded the orphanage, the air heavy with moisture, and the sky as dark as ink.

When Chu Wuyang arrived in a hurry, his car headlights cast a thin line of light across the puddle.

She got out of the car, pulled up the brim of her trench coat to cover her hair, and walked quickly toward the gate.

The dean was standing under the porch organizing supplies for tomorrow's activities when he saw her, and he seemed a little surprised.

"Miss Chu, why are you coming so late?"

Chu Wuyang paused slightly, turned around to lock the car, and replied with a smile.

"I'm worried and want to see for myself."

"There's still a bit of mural left to be painted on that east wall!"

“I remember the artist took a last-minute leave... If no one arranges for me to do it, I plan to fill in the gap myself.”

The dean blinked.

"Hasn't someone already come to fix it?"

Chu Wuyang was stunned.

Following the direction the dean was pointing, all that could be seen through the blurry rain curtain was...

A man was squatting under that wall, his white cotton-linen shirt slightly damp from the raindrops, clinging to his shoulders and revealing warm, familiar lines.

His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, and the brush in his hand was covered in paint.

He was carefully adding the outline of the pattern, stroke by stroke.

She frowned slightly, somewhat surprised.

The dean smiled and said in a low voice,

"What, Miss Chu, don't you recognize her?"

"This gentleman has been here since the afternoon. He did all the new paintings on that large area. Now only this small section is left."

Chu Wuyang took the umbrella from the dean, feeling suspicious, and approached with the umbrella open.

The shadow of the umbrella fell right on that person's shoulder.

"Thank you, all thanks to you—Yang Jinchu?"

The man paused, pen in hand, and turned his head. In the light rain, the familiar features of his face were clearly defined.

I just felt a bit more tired.

He chuckled softly, a hint of surprise in his voice.

"What a coincidence,"

Chu Wuyang paused for two seconds, then asked softly,

What are you doing here?

"You weren't hurt in the Emirate... were you? I didn't see you when I woke up..."

Upon hearing her question, Yang Jinchu's joy instantly turned to disappointment.

He didn't seem to want to bring it up again, and didn't answer immediately.

He simply dipped his brush in paint again, added a touch, and then said casually,

"fine"

"You saved me that day, and now you're helping me out quietly before I even show up. Thank you."

Chu Wuyang looked at him intently.

Yang Jinchu paused, not turning around, but speaking softly.

"Should I feel honored to be needed by you twice?"

Chu Wuyang took it as a joke, squatted down, and said in a relaxed tone,

"That doesn't sound like a nice thing to say. 'Trouble' means I'm going to be in trouble,"

"By the way, how did you know there was an event here? You just happened to be here?"

Yang Jinchu finished the last stroke, put away the brush,

"You forgot? I even invested in building an orphanage before, and of course, I was one of the beneficiaries of that orphanage."

Chu Wuyang nodded, "That makes sense."

She pointed to the almost completed mural.

"Even though it's for the children, I still thank you."

Yang Jinchu frowned slightly, his tone carrying a barely perceptible sigh.

You could hear the politeness in her words, but there was a hint of deliberate distance.

He turned his head to look at her, a smile playing on his lips.

"How about you finish the rest?"

Chu Wuyang was stunned for a moment, and before he could react, he said calmly again,

"You haven't become so neglected that you don't even dare to do such a simple line drawing, have you?"

In short, it's like taking you back to the past.

During their childhood, the two often practiced painting together, and their bickering and competition were inevitable.

His tone was so familiar.

It was like a provocation, yet it also carried a hint of indulgent intimacy.

Chu Wuyang raised an eyebrow, a competitive urge inexplicably igniting within him.

"Tsk, what are you saying!"

She reached out and took the paintbrush, letting out a soft hum.

"Why would I be afraid of something like this?"

The two stood side by side, taking turns writing, and soon filled in the last blank space.

Night had fallen, and the rain was pouring down harder.

Chu Wuyang stood under the awning and took out her phone to check the time.

The screen went black, and nothing happened no matter how I pressed it.

Somewhat annoyed, she rummaged through her bag to check for the spare power bank, only to find that she had left it in the office.

The phone was turned off.

She turned to look at Yang Jinchu.

"What time is it now?"

Just after saying that,

Then she heard a loud crash from not far away—it was her toolbox, which she had left at the warehouse entrance, that had been blown over by the wind.

Several metal tools were scattered on the slippery floor tiles, and a long steel ruler was even stuck in the gap of the warehouse door.

Chu Wuyang instinctively ran over to pick it up.

The steps, wet from the rain, were so slippery that I nearly fell.

"Stand still, don't move, I'll do it."

Yang Jinchu walked over and helped her steady herself.

Then he bent down to pick up the stuck steel ruler.

When he pulled it out, he accidentally cut the back of his hand; the blood was quickly washed away by the rain.

But it was still an glaringly bright red.

Chu Wuyang quickly pulled him down into the corridor.

While grabbing the first-aid kit, he grumbled.

"How could you be so careless? The wound will get infected if it gets wet in the rain."

The dean came downstairs.

Seeing this, I quickly found her iodine and bandages.

The process took a lot of time.

Once the injury has been treated,

Chu Wuyang glanced at the torrential rain outside and was just about to say that they should leave quickly...

However, it was discovered that the roads in front of and behind the orphanage's parking area were half blocked by fallen rocks due to the mountain rain.

Several vehicles were unable to leave for a period of time.

The dean, while making a phone call to contact a tow truck, turned around and asked,

"How about... Miss Chu, you take our car down the mountain first?"

Yang Jinchu spoke at the opportune moment.

"I should be able to get out of here by parking my car; I'll give her a ride."

Chu Wuyang hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded.

"Then I'll have to trouble you again."

They took a detour down a mountain path, rain pounding against the windshield.

The car was completely silent.

"You... that was really dangerous."

Her tone was somewhat soft, as if she were apologizing.

Yang Jinchu smiled faintly, glanced at her sideways, and spoke in a low, gentle tone.

"If I can be needed in a timely manner, I still think... the injury was worthwhile."

Chu Wuyang didn't immediately grasp the meaning behind his words, but still thanked him earnestly.

"Thank you so much."

The night rain grew heavier.

The windshield wipers swept back and forth across the windshield, but the interior of the car was so quiet that you could almost hear the sound of water droplets sliding down.

Yang Jinchu drove a dark gray Bentley smoothly onto the mountain road.

He glanced sideways at Chu Wuyang in the passenger seat; the woman was asleep, leaning against the seat.

She still looked a little tired, her hair was slightly damp, and her eyelashes were curled, making her appear quiet and obedient.

He looked away, his fingers lightly tapping the steering wheel, his knuckles distinct, but his mind was far from calm.

The smell of the red medicine on my fingertips hadn't completely dissipated yet.

It reminded him that every minute and second he spent with her that night was real.

The car slowly wound its way up the mountain.

They just barely passed a black Maybach speeding down the mountain.
