Chapter 353 Can I come to see you?

Chu Wuyang stood by the window in the hospital corridor, watching Jing Min's car slowly drive away, her gaze lost in thought.

My heart felt chilled by the wind.

As soon as she turned around, she froze—Yang Jinchu was standing quietly at the end of the corridor, staring at her without moving.

Why didn't you make a sound? You startled me!

She was startled, patted her chest, and turned to walk towards the ward.

"How is Jin Xuan?"

Just as they brushed past each other, Yang Jinchu suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist.

Chu Wuyang trembled slightly, instinctively trying to break free, her voice stammering.

"W-what's wrong?"

Yang Jinchu remained expressionless, but his eyes held a scrutinizing gaze.

"Something's wrong with you."

She gave a dry laugh, trying to hide her unease.

"What are you saying? You're being too sensitive."

"Did you do something bad?"

He pressed her for an answer, his tone neither warm nor cold, yet it felt like a needle piercing her heart.

"Tsk, nonsense."

Chu Wuyang turned to leave.

Yang Jinchu still didn't let go, his gaze slowly sweeping across her face.

"When you lie, your eyes blink a lot."

Chu Wuyang paused, as if she had truly been hit where it hurt, but her tone became even more forceful.

"No! You're joking... Don't you think it's a bit windy today?"

Yang Jinchu replied casually,

I don't think so.

"Oh, really?"

She glanced out the window.

"Huh, it's really not that strong anymore. It was so windy just now... and it stopped just like that. What awful weather."

As she spoke, she forcefully pulled her hand away.

But Yang Jinchu didn't let go and kept staring at her.

Her expression began to show some annoyance.

"Let go first! There are people coming and going here, it won't be good if people misunderstand."

Yang Jinchu suddenly chuckled softly, his voice low and husky.

"Isn't this exactly what you wanted—a misunderstanding?"

Chu Wuyang paused, then looked up and met his overly clear eyes.

"Just now in the ward, you deliberately got close to me, wasn't it just to make Jingmin misunderstand?"

"You two had a fight?... Could it be that I've misunderstood?"

Yang Jinchu spoke casually, yet every word struck a chord in her heart.

"There was no argument, you just misunderstood."

She stubbornly maintained her composure, but dared not meet his gaze.

Yang Jinchu didn't press her further, but his gaze was fixed on her like a nail.

"Excuse me."

Someone walked by, and he finally let go of her hand.

As soon as Chu Wuyang gained her freedom, she quickly turned and left.

"Yangyang".

Yang Jinchu called out to her from behind.

She didn't turn around, but she stopped walking.

Yang Jinchu stood in the middle of the corridor, his voice low and slow, yet filled with barely suppressed emotion.

"When you were in Thailand, Mr. Kim called you and said he wanted to invite you for tea."

"You said you would agree to his conditions... I heard you."

Chu Wuyang suddenly turned around, her expression changing drastically.

"I don't know exactly what you exchanged with him, but I can roughly guess."

For the first time, Yang Jinchu's gaze was no longer restrained.

“If you really need someone to be used as a tool… I hope that person is me.”

Chu Wuyang's expression was complicated for a moment.

“Ah Jin…you don’t need to do this.”

Yang Jinchu suddenly interrupted her, his tone almost urgent.

"I need to!"

“I need this opportunity. Even if I’m just a tool, even if you never really chose me—as long as I can be by your side. Even if Jingmin really… really can’t come back in the future, I will take good care of you, even if it’s just to make up for the regret between us that can never be returned to.”

The corridor quieted down, with only the occasional sound of footsteps echoing in the distance.

Chu Wuyang looked at him, her lips tightly pressed together, but she couldn't utter a single word.

A hint of bitterness flashed across Yang Jinchu's eyes, but she still managed a faint smile.

“I know you won’t agree right away, but you can remember what I said…it will always stand.”

———

Night had fallen, and the entire city was shrouded in tranquility, with only the scattered headlights of cars outside the window swaying the edges of the curtains.

Chu Wuyang was curled up on the single sofa in her apartment, a light gray blanket covering her legs. Her phone screen emitted a soft glow as chat messages scrolled across it.

It was sent by Jingmin.

Throughout the day, he sent her a message almost every hour. They were short, just asking if she was busy, if she had eaten, and if she was cold.

She replied to every single one of them.

Because she knew that if she didn't respond, Jing Min would likely notice something was wrong, and he would definitely not agree to a temporary separation, or—like before, he would resort to all means to have someone secretly watching her.

She couldn't give him that chance; she had to first comfort and reassure him, letting him gradually adjust to their separation.

Furthermore, if someone is watching us, we can't proceed with the cooperation plan with Mr. Jin without any scruples.

The phone chimed.

Another new message:

Are you asleep?

Chu Wuyang held the phone in her palm and rubbed it.

Slowly type a line of text:

[Already asleep—]

My fingertip hovered over the "send" button, but I didn't press it.

A few seconds later, she deleted the entire line and retyped it:

[Still awake? Just about to go to sleep. What about you?]

Almost immediately, the other side replied:

I'm still awake, I miss you, Yangyang. Can I come over to see you?

Chu Wuyang looked at the few lines of text on her phone and, as if sensing something, immediately got up and walked towards the balcony.

She pulled back a corner of the curtain and looked down at the building below.
