Time can fade many things and blur many memories.
Chu Wuyang returned to Haicheng and threw herself back into the KOALA business left by her father.
She poured all her energy into her work.
As for Yang Jinchu—their relationship was more like that of family.
She couldn't bring herself to explicitly refuse, perhaps because deep down she was giving herself a chance to gradually accept it.
Yang Jinchu never pressured her, and was always considerate and caring, just like the warm-hearted older brother who had protected her since childhood, gentle and steady.
She no longer had moments of depression. With Jin Xian by her side, and spending her free time traveling with Ye Yuhe, life seemed to be getting better and more peaceful.
In the blink of an eye, it was the second year since Jingmin left.
As the New Year's bells were about to ring, Yang Jinchu's phone call came right on time, just like always.
Happy New Year, Yangyang.
Happy New Year, Ah Jin.
Chu Wuyang raised his glass in response while glancing out the window at the fireworks just beginning to light up the sky.
Ye Yuhe, who had just returned from the restroom, sat back down in her chair, her lips pursed in an unfriendly manner.
"Is that Brother Jin Chu?"
Chu Wuyang put down her wine glass and gave a soft "hmm".
Ye Yuhe frowned and asked the bartender to order another drink.
"What's wrong with him? He's not here for such an important day?"
Chu Wuyang smiled faintly.
“I’m nobody to him, so of course I’ll stay home with my family at a time like this.”
Moreover, Aunt Amman still harbors resentment towards her to this day.
Ye Yuhe shrugged.
"All right."
Chu Wuyang glanced at her, smiled, and asked,
"And what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Your boyfriend? Oh... that new, mysterious one?"
Chu Han's memories are too disgusting; let's hold onto hope for her "new" romance for now.
Ye Yuhe clearly didn't want to talk about it.
"Hey, why bring up men? With me by your side, you won't be lonely, isn't that good?"
Changing the subject, she narrowed her eyes and sized up Chu Wuyang.
"You wouldn't be... going to bring up Zhang San and Li Si later, trying to get rid of me while you go pick up girls, would you?"
After saying that, she looked around nervously, about to continue her rant.
But suddenly his eyes widened.
"Hey! Who's that? What's he doing here?"
Ye Yuhe pointed at the person in the distance, her gesture obvious. Chu Wuyang quickly grabbed her wrist.
"Don't be so rude."
Ye Yuhe pouted in dissatisfaction.
"No, didn't that kid try to extort money from me last time? I gave him some more money later, how dare he show his face again?"
As if considering those around them, she shook Chu Wuyang's head.
"Tell me, are you possessed by something? What's bothering you? Tell me clearly now."
Chu Wuyang felt dizzy from the shaking and whispered.
"Stop, stop, don't talk nonsense."
Ye Yuhe glared at her angrily.
"Then tell me, what exactly happened? You can find someone else, but not this kind!"
"You'd better give me an explanation, or I won't help you keep it a secret from Brother Jin Chu."
Chu Wuyang sighed softly and briefly recounted what had happened.
She bumped into Jian Zhou by chance at this bar, and remembering that she had promised to make it up to him last time, she brought it up again.
However, Jian Zhou unexpectedly refused.
“I was quite surprised at the time,”
She glanced at Ye Yuhe,
"Weren't you short of money last time? He accepted the money you gave him quite readily."
To everyone's surprise, Jian Zhou hesitated for a moment before telling a tired old story: his father had died young, leaving behind a mountain of debt, and he had a younger sister with intellectual disabilities attending a special school. His mother was seriously ill, requiring large sums of money for treatment every month. He was still in school and could only work part-time at a bar in the evenings when he didn't have classes and during holidays to make ends meet.
"The last time he accompanied someone to play games, it was a helpless act that he was encouraged by a friend. That money solved most of his family's financial difficulties, and he didn't want to take other people's money again."
Ye Yuhe rolled her eyes immediately after hearing this.
"Is this a 'pig butchering scam'? The kind that preys on single, rich, and beautiful women like you."
Chu Wuyang clicked his tongue.
"Don't think too badly of people, but don't think too simply of me either."
"I've had someone investigate, and the situation is true."
“What’s even stranger is that when I offered to sponsor him, he resolutely refused to accept it.”
Ye Yuhe remained unconvinced.
Isn't this the clichéd "Saving Cinderella" story? It's just a male version.
"What, you want to keep him as a mistress? He didn't agree, so you're planning to stake him out every day?"
Chu Wuyang gently raised his hand, pretending to slap her face.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
"So, we're just friends?"
She wasn't entirely sure about the nature of the relationship, but it was definitely not a romantic one.
"Maybe I've been too idle, or maybe I've done too many bad things. In any case, I'll just consider it giving away some money and doing good deeds, and hopefully it will change my luck."
“His family is indeed poor, so I decided to help cover his mother's medical expenses—I'll cover them all, just to save a wayward young man.”
Ye Yuhe raised an eyebrow and teased.
"You're so generous."
"It's Jin Chu who's so tolerant of you. If it were Jing Min, if he knew you were using the money he left you in the divorce to support a male college student, the poor male college student's mother would probably have her oxygen tube pulled out."
Chu Wuyang just smiled, neither confirming nor denying. She seemed to have become immune to the mention of Jing Min again.
Since some people are everywhere, let them exist. Anyway, he's unlikely to care who she spends her money on.
Jian Zhou had already noticed them at the bar.
The first thing he saw was Chu Wuyang sitting there, drinking and chatting with her friends.
He actually intended to go over and say hello.
