As soon as Chu Wuyang stepped out the door, the car lights came on.
Jin Xian had been waiting in the car for a while. As soon as she appeared, he immediately opened the car door and jumped out, his voice filled with a hint of nervous concern.
"sister?"
Chu Wuyang glanced at him, confirming that his clothes were neat and his mental state was normal. Her brows relaxed slightly. Seeing that he was unharmed, it seemed that no one had laid a hand on him.
"Let's talk after we get in the car."
As soon as the car door closed, Jin Xuan started the engine.
Chu Wuyang fastened his seatbelt.
"Did you find anything?"
Jin Xian raised his chin, gesturing for her to look at the folder on the passenger seat.
Chu Wuyang picked it up and flipped through it, immediately seeing Lin Yuebai's medical examination report, childhood report card, certificates of honor, and several photos of her growing up—all well-preserved, but not of much use.
She frowned slightly and casually laid the document out on her lap.
"These aren't anything special, are they?"
Jin Xuan, with one hand on the steering wheel and a smug look on his face, gave a pointer.
"Take another close look at the photo?"
Chu Wuyang lowered his head with some skepticism and began to look through the pages one by one.
Until her fingertips stopped on a certain photo, she froze for a moment.
In the photo, Lin Yuebai is wearing a school uniform, holding a cup of milk tea, and smiling sweetly with her eyebrows curved. However, her gaze is not on the camera, but rather on a tall man beside her. The man's profile and back are only visible, and his facial features are not clear.
But judging from Lin Yuebai's eyes, which were filled with a sweet emotion, this was definitely not the attitude of an ordinary friend.
"You mean the man in the photo?"
Chu Wuyang asked softly.
Jin Xian raised an eyebrow and grinned.
"She's smart enough not to be blinded by love."
Chu Wuyang raised her hand as if to tap him on the head.
What are you saying?
Jin Xian tilted his head to dodge.
"Stop fooling around, it's dangerous while driving. Let me see, there's another one."
Chu Wuyang searched again and found a photo taken from the same angle that appeared to be recent.
One photo shows him as a teenager, the other as an adult; both show the same expression, pose, and angle, and it's clearly the same man.
She took out the two photos separately and examined them repeatedly, comparing them.
"I feel like I've seen this man somewhere before. He looks familiar."
Jin Xuan nodded.
“I feel the same way. The photo was sent to her grandmother, and it was taken from a sneaky angle, only showing her back. But Lin Yuebai’s eyes… she’s probably in a relationship with her.”
He paused, then said...
"The key to this photo is—why isn't it a frontal shot? Either he's deliberately avoiding the camera, or his identity is something he doesn't want to reveal."
Chu Wuyang nodded, her lips tightly pressed together.
"In other words, this man may be the key figure who helped her send Aunt Lin away."
She snorted coldly.
"They've been together for so many years, they're really loyal. It seems this same man helped Aunt Lin get to her grandmother's hospital room many years ago."
It's a pity that she was so irrational back then and held a grudge against Jingmin for many years.
She composed herself.
"This is progress; all we need to do is find this man."
Speaking of this, she suddenly recalled Jin Xuan's furtive and rummaging through drawers in the surveillance footage. If she wasn't careful, Jing Min's people might have treated her like a bad guy and dealt with her directly. It really wasn't easy.
She reached out and patted his shoulder.
"You've done a great job. Now, tell me, what reward do you want?"
Jin Xian suddenly felt a little guilty, and his eyes flickered.
"Actually... I didn't find this thing."
"Hmm?" Chu Wuyang turned her head.
He cleared his throat.
"As soon as I entered the door, I saw the file folder on the entryway table. It was very conspicuous, as if someone had deliberately left it there for me to pick up."
Chu Wuyang frowned, but didn't think much of it, and casually put the file away.
"She probably packed it herself in advance. She was planning to run away, but she left in a hurry and left it behind, which is how you got to take advantage of her."
That day, Chu Wuyang was in his office processing a cooperation contract. Just after he finished signing it, his phone vibrated.
She glanced at the caller ID; it was Chu Xi.
"Hey, Fourth Brother?"
She answered the call, her voice gentle and calm.
Chu Xi's voice, as always, came through the phone in a relaxed tone, yet with a rare hint of seriousness.
"Yangyang, there's an emergency. There's a business association event, and the Chu family needs you to represent them."
Chu Wuyang was slightly taken aback, and put down her pen.
"Me? Haven't I attended plenty of big events these past few years? Why are you being so serious today?"
“This time is different.”
Chu Xi paused for a moment, then slowly said,
"We received news that a large overseas family is preparing to enter the domestic market."
"The identity of the person in charge is being kept secret for now, but one thing is certain—they are a big shot, and taking over the domestic market is almost a certainty."
Chu Wuyang frowned slightly as he listened to him continue.
"Therefore, the major families in Haicheng secretly organized an 'informal negotiation'."
"The aim is to reduce potential future trade conflicts by making concessions before the situation becomes clearer."
Chu Wuyang's expression became more serious.
"Such an important occasion, aren't you going to attend yourself?"
"I'm currently overseas and can't leave here temporarily."
Chu Xi sighed.
"My second sister is capable, but although she is steady, she is not as quick-witted as you."
"and……"
He then changed the subject.
"The middleman over there relayed a message saying that the person in charge has specifically requested the 'entertainment and amusement' industry in Haicheng."
Chu Wuyang felt a chill run down her spine.
The Chu family controls almost the entire area of Haicheng, and she is the person in charge of this area.
